Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4342May 25, 2013 8:08 am Hi guys, we are just about to start tiling and we are starting to get a little cranky about little things, little things that we shouldn't have to pick up, the whole reason we used a home builder in the first place. For example the bedroom window height issue ( now promptly fixed after commenting on here about it and reporting it. Only when we met the tiler yesterday and went inside the house for the second time we noticed the shower rose is way off centre in the main bathroom you would have to be touching the wall for the water to hit your head. A couple of weeks back we noticed the pillars out side the front were not built in the right place ( promptly fixed after reporting it) just noticed this morning when looking at our plans that 2 out of 3 bi fold doors are opening the wrong way ( will report this on Monday) These are things from an untrained eye, I wonder if I am missing anything else? Now i am having a moan I would like to comment about the lack of attention to detail and questions we should have been asked at our colour and electrical appointment that would have save us a lot of money. For example Do you plan to have electric blinds? Do you know that when you opt for higher ceilings like the display homes you have to also tell us that you want the media room windows higher. Do you know your choice of carpet is not a good option for where you live due to the humidity? ( all carpet suppliers up here have told us the same. ) Are you aware that you will not be able to have shutters in the main bathroom because the bath is higher than the sill? Would you like a cold water tap connection behind your fridge? Since the build has started we haven't received a single call from Our CLO asking how's it going ? Can we help ? Also perhaps are you aware that you last CLO left and I am your new one ( only found this out when I called to complain about the bedroom window) I am aware that we are a regional build so may miss out on the full attention of a ss due to distance but feel that he needs to be given more time to give us. Rant over I'm sorry to hear about your issues. This is the sole reason it has taken us so long from the beginning of this journey to where we are now (roughly 18 months). I learned very early from checking the forums to never rely on a builder - nothing against McDJ because if anything they have brought things to our attention that I have missed, but I researched lots of builders and I quickly learned that although they are building the house, the project is yours - so i questioned 'everything'. I'm 100% sure I will still have issues during my build as no one person can think of everything. I hope you get this sorted out, and it doesn't dampen your experience. On another note I just have to give our bank a rap " Newcastle Permanent" they have been excellent, we have just paid our 3rd progress payment (the first one they had to pay) and they did it the day we put the invoice in.. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4347May 26, 2013 9:14 pm If only they would have taken my maternity leave payments into account, the main reason we went with our current bank! Countdown is on until Friday now and if we get the Authority to Commence letter in time! Bec_M, hoping there is some more movement for you this week! Our benchtops have been installed, our appliances are there, painting is finishing, driveway is being done tomorrow....it's all flying along! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4357May 29, 2013 7:49 pm Will be interesting to watch the progress of the builds in different areas. My finance hassles have moved on to strata fees now, we're on a community plan and the incredibly bright SM has been serving levy notices to my vacant block... surely they'd be returned by the post office or something, I don't even have a letterbox! Arreas are more than levies! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4358May 30, 2013 9:10 am Hey, just having a look at some mjh kitchens online and on old blogs. It seems that some splash backs are just straight across the wall and don't come up behind the rangehood. I was assuming that they covered the whole wall but this didn't come up in colours? I know I can call our colours consultant but thought maybe someone here knew? Should be receiving our contract today or tomorrow... Yipee Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4359May 30, 2013 10:13 am Hi there all, I am new to this site and I am just wondering if I could pick your brain regarding this 'colour selection' appointment. Can anyone tell me when is this actually done? Also how much extra do people normally spend and does anyone know the cost to upgrade appliances to SMEG?? Thanks for your help! Yipee I think it used to be the case that it went straight across but now it goes up the back also, I know mine is going up the back to meet with the range hood. However that being said I would still check with your colour consultant because she is the one that puts it down on paper and it goes into your contract.
