Lilac we have the Samsung series 8 downstairs and the series 7 upstairs and they are great, I love the really fine edge, it looks like the picture is coming out of the wall! The only problem we have is if there is a loud noise the tv comes up saying it can't hear you because of the voice control thingy As for resolution of movies, I've got no idea but we watch movies and sport in the theatre room on our fang dangled projector thingy, so the televisions are just for everyday toddlers and tiaras and grand designs Garden looking great T Re: SunshineT's Build: very post build photos - landscaping 4282Jan 10, 2013 7:30 pm Haha! Nina, perhaps try a different mode. The eco mode is usually really short too. I have one but don't use it. After reading all the selections, the one I use is 1hr 5 mins, all cold water and gets everything out of the clothes. On DSs white school shirts I sometimes spray on detergent first. Good luck. We've ordered both - 8 series for the main room and 7 series for our room. We also like the thin frame and not sure about movies either, but all the storeman I have spoken too over the past 6 weeks (yes been looking that long) have rated them as the best in resolution at the moment. Harvey did so great on the prices too - price matched JBHifi and we got 2 years - no repayments. That's hysterical about the voice activation - you must be able to turn it off. We didn't want that or the camera but the 60" doesn't come without it. Also finalised the home theatre too and got one of those projector thingy's. Decided to change our screen to fixed (was getting the motor one but the capsule up top was so long it meant a smaller screen as we have just under 2.5m within the bulkhead) just ridiculous... but it's done Can't wait... won't see hubby for days Blog: http://cbcbuild.blogspot.com.au/ Building Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62155 Re: SunshineT's Build: very post build photos - landscaping 4284Jan 12, 2013 2:50 pm Only cold wash here too - did you know cold washing helps prolong the life of some clothing too - like elastic and some colours. Like T, (again again) I spray with Sard before hand for things like grass stains etc. I also used to use cloth nappies on my littlest and for those not in the know you really can't soak or hot wash them, and I never had a hard time getting them clean. Using a good eco detergent helps Re: SunshineT's Build: very post build photos - landscaping 4285Jan 13, 2013 3:02 pm gogo65 Garden looking great T Thanks gogo. Thank god for the rain today - my plants have been suffering the past week! And good for my water tank (with so many guests and it being emptied the week before everyone arrived due to the plumbing configuration we were back to using mains water I think for toilets, garden and washing machine). greenfish Like T, (again again) I spray Lilac won't see hubby for days or weeks... that's how long my DH has been absorbed. I am well and truly over all the gadgets. I had a flip today to learn that with all the money spent on the media system, there wasn't a simple function to play my CDs. All I want is an eject and play button for my CDs, without having to get help from the IT Call Centre DH each time. I like to be self sufficient. And simple. so..... I think nina asked ages ago whether there was anything we would have changed in our house. People reading for a while will know that we have been very happy. But! We now have one major mistake that we have discovered. There were a few minor things I thought of (but have forgotten now, maybe like slightly longer ensuite window or something). But we now realised it was a major mistake not to put a door out the back of our garage. Our garage is attached to the house with one wall but otherwise on its own. And just out the back westerly wall is where we have the clothes line. Our laundry attaches to the garage, so a door there would have meant a very small distance to the clothesline. It would also allow us to open the door to flush out the oven like heat that builds up in the garage. And better access for gardening tools etc. I remember we talked about it years ago, when with Masterton, but we were desperate to minimise extras and we didn't realise how useful it would have been. I have always carried the washing out to hang up so I thought it would be fine, but when you build your own house and have control of everything you realise how much you can improve. We also thought we might have put the clothesline on the north but seeing the house finished we changed our mind. Anyway, it is so annoying for us now - and we know exactly where we would put it - that DH is seriously thinking about getting it retro-fitted. I fear for how much that would cost (and knowing it would have been about $50 to get it added from the outset to the plan). Oh well. Live and learn. Re: SunshineT's Build: very post build photos - landscaping 4288Jan 13, 2013 4:55 pm Jodge - I wonder... Might be worth it down the track... kiwi - yes, through downstairs rumpus. We have a line in the garage and most stuff (esp. kids small stuff) I put on a clothes horse thing on the patio facing north. Still a bit of a trek. I have been meaning to post site and floor plans for ages, as the original ones dropped off (before I used photobucket) so will do that now and you can see the long way round from the laundry SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: SunshineT's Build: very post build photos - landscaping 4289Jan 13, 2013 4:56 pm Finally, re-loading plans. People who say "that's great, will keep you fit going up and down those stairs all the time" get the death-stare. It's lethal. Totally agree. We have our bedrooms next to our laundry, so not far to go (except for the hike to the clothes line), but I have often wondered why so many people have the laundry behind the kitchen (downstairs when all the bedrooms are upstairs) and not nearer the bedrooms / bathroom. But I guess with bedrooms upstairs there is the hike downstairs anyway. Laundry chutes?! Our clothes line will be right outside the laundry door and we purposely extended the garage depth an additional meter to hide it from the street when looking at the house from the road. (it sits right angle off the front of the home). We also have a rear roller door from the garage to the back garden, which we almost removed and now glad we didn't as being on an acre this is for DH to take out the ride on instead of having to go all the way around the front. However.... we haven't even finished and already there have been so many other.... 'wish we did this instead' moments shortly followed by 'what the?' moments. I think it's inevitable isn't it.... Just put it all in the memory bank for the next one..... if there would ever be a next one.. You lose a lot of valuable wall space. Though maybe not everyone has as much crap in their garage as we do. Oh, if our last garages are anything to go by we will fill it with nothing short of a lot of crap... although all good intentions are to really try and refrain from doing so, but once the place is finsihed everything has to go to the garage first so need to make sure we clear it. Yeh, with the rear door we didn't have much choice with ours as we needed to access the back garden with a ride-on mower due to land size but it actually leads to the side of the house no the back as the rear garage wall is on the side.. We did cater for the additional space though so our garage is about 3.5 cars long and an additional meter deep for cupboard spaceand storage across the back... hopefully it stays organised. BTW Sunshine - I love your house... It's just amazing! It's just amazing! Thank you Lilac! We are very happy (and vow never to do it again!). jodge You lose a lot of valuable wall space. Actually - you reminded me. That was the main reason DH didn't want a door there - he was obsessed with wall space for storage, tools etc. and enough room for the cars. I had forgotten that. Turns out we have HEAPS of storage, more than we need and we are still in the process of building more storage (although I have almost convinced DH we don't need overheads in the study / guest room). Anyway, so we now know we could have done without that small bit of wall space. But hindsight is a sweet thing... Lilac if there would ever be a next one.. a-agh, like childbirth: the memory of it fades with time but I am telling you all now I vow I never want to build again! It was dated 20 December but took a while to get to us. To get it in hard copy and file it away was a nice relief. Can close off the paperwork. I then rang Council last week and they had just received a copy too (phew, I am such a sceptic that I thought I would have to chase Council getting a copy, so I had to eat my words / thoughts there). So what I am hoping for now is that Council can do their final inspection so we get our $3000 bond back. Apparently now the OC is in, they will come out automatically although i was hoping to be here myself. We have driveway, turf and landscaping (all Council requirements for OC and bond). There is a small (OK, maybe not so small) crack in the second (original) driveway where soil has eroded away and the concrete cracked (I presume from one of the large trucks during the build). Hoping hoping hoping that doesn't cause a problem for us. I completely understand about the washing line. Had it all sussed out on our previous build, zoned all my service areas to be so handy. This time I just presumed that DH would have it in mind to site the line where I want without a fuss but now he says it is "the ideal spot to have the woodheap and compost" jodge Actually, our laundry positioning is one of our major bug bears too. . .
