Browse Forums Building A New House Re: South Australia builds 2014 41Jul 21, 2014 11:36 pm Great to see what others are doing. Can't wait to see the Cleo start - love it. A colleague recommended Oakford. They built with them in Mawson Lakes about 7 years ago. Mr TC is having issues ATM about there being no drains in bathrooms or laundries anymore. Anyone else concerned with this? Apparently the new 'code' did away with them when overflows on basins, baths and tubs were mandated. I flood the laundry at least twice per year and have flooded the house a couple of times leaving the bath run too long! Re: South Australia builds 2014 42Jul 22, 2014 9:27 am I did find it odd... I noticed all the new display homes didn't have them anymore and asked the question. I'm not too worried about the bathrooms, with the overflows on the basins and bath. But whilst I've never flooded the laundry, I hope there's an overflow on the tub in there too? I must check that. Fairmont still install drains so we have them. It's much easier to create water fall without them. One of our drains ended up being for looks for this very reason. They would prob put drains in if you asked but I bet they would change more for something that was standard Re: South Australia builds 2014 44Jul 22, 2014 1:57 pm Statesman is doing in floor drains still. At least we have it in all our wet areas. While overflow drain in basins are good, it will not save you if your washing machine started leaking. We had this problem once when the inlet sensor broke and the water did not stop going into the washing machine and then all over the laundry floor. It would be a very bad experience if we did not have the drain in the floor. I would have thought a drain at least in the laundry was basic seeing house walls are made of chalk these days, it's ridiculous. I think I'm going to have to pass on the dishwasher too. I've had too many bad flooding experiences. Overflows aren't the be-all and end-all. Re: South Australia builds 2014 46Jul 29, 2014 12:58 pm My hand basins have overflow holes, but not the bath or laundry tub, or kitchen sink. We do have overflow drains in all but the kitchen--I often wonder why kitchens don't have them. Anyway, I guess they are good for overfilling the bath and washing machine catastrophes, but if there's something wrong the smell can be awful. Guess how I know?--wish we could find out what's wrong but so far all that's been offered are stop-gap measures. Re: South Australia builds 2014 47Jul 29, 2014 7:50 pm Not good Luce -- wonder what that is???? usually smelly drain problems clear up pretty quick Re: South Australia builds 2014 48Jul 30, 2014 11:55 am Definitely sewage smell. The drain blockers the plumber put in last week are working, thank goodness, but I'm concerned that something hasn't been done right because the smell shouldn't be coming up the drain in the first place. Ah well, it's all documented so if there is a build up and a problem later on they'll have to fix it; at least we will be insisting they do. Re: South Australia builds 2014 49Aug 04, 2014 9:58 pm We got our plans back. Have our name on them, yes, it's now 'our house'! Looks fantastic. Can anyone please tell me what a'G/M' is? It's on the external side wall of the house (opposite side of garage and near the front). It looks like some small box below the 'M/B' - meter box. Could it be 'gas main'? TIA Re: South Australia builds 2014 50Aug 04, 2014 10:02 pm Yup! Gas meter or gas main... It's gas related! Haha we have the same thing. Yay! Glad it looks good and all yours now for all the exciting bits!!! Woohoo! We are building in Mitcham Council Area with Dechellis. Our thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69521 We are a demolition stage, with building set to commence (fingers crossed) in September. Re: South Australia builds 2014 53Aug 06, 2014 11:48 pm Nice house Charleston, I like all the Dechellis homes. None would suit our block though ... They all seem so huge. Mind you, our place seems huge that's the bonus with two storey, you keep more land Re: South Australia builds 2014 54Aug 07, 2014 9:41 am Hi all, such a great idea to have all SA builds in one thread! I've got a lot more threads to follow... Here's my thread if anyone wants to check it out. Re: South Australia builds 2014 55Aug 07, 2014 10:44 pm This is our version of the Simonds Avalon Which we obviously want to hurry up. Too happy Downstairs Upstairs [/URL] Re: South Australia builds 2014 56Aug 07, 2014 11:01 pm Plan looks great TomCat, when is the expected start? Re: South Australia builds 2014 57Aug 07, 2014 11:31 pm Thanks. Sales exec reckons slab should be down before Christmas. The large bedroom 3 is my husband's workroom. He's self employed (electronics technician). It's big cos he has a lot of 'crap' ... We'll just keep the doors closed I'm kinda nervous that this house is a 'bit' huge Bah, we never go out, we will so enjoy it! And our dog is getting old, I will fit out under the stairs as a comfy bedroom for him Re: South Australia builds 2014 58Aug 08, 2014 12:43 pm Fingers crossed for the slab before Christmas. I was wondering what bed 3 would be used for, makes sense now. How many square metres is your house overall? Re: South Australia builds 2014 59Aug 08, 2014 1:08 pm Great floor plan, TC! Is that Butler's pantry for Sid V? Re: South Australia builds 2014 60Aug 08, 2014 2:08 pm TomCat Thanks. Sales exec reckons slab should be down before Christmas. All the fun stuff in the in between too It'll be a lovely home, who cares if it's too big? What's too big? What's too small? It's all relative to you and it's your home We don't go out either, so sinking cash into our main location and the main place we are all the time is fine by us! Awww and what a cute cubby for the dog! My dogs would be so ungrateful and would just want to sleep wherever is most inconvenient. They will have the Laundry at night, be on their doggy mat in the family room in the evenings and on the deck during the day... and still try it on for more!
