Browse Forums Building A New House Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 41Apr 12, 2013 12:47 pm my dog is a digger, she likes to escape. we even had to extend fences at one place we were renting as she jumped over it. she is getting old and has arthritis and anxiety but still likes to go exploring. need to dog proof our yard too. i am kinda hoping fencing is done by the time we move in so i can just hand the neighbours the cash instead of having to organise it although in saying that i will have to organise gates to close the yard in. do you know who does fencing in the barossa? hubby assures me he will make everything work out, hopefully the work thing will work out in our favour. do you plan on using any of the vouchers at the back of the colour selections book? um i dont think we looked at the iverness at freeling when we went there cos we knew we couldnt afford it but just looking at the floorplans i love it, probably a bit bigger version of what we are building i think. we went to freeling and looked at the milano alfresco, we were tossing up between building that and the chandler. the milano is pretty much a smaller chandler haha, then the iverness is pretty much bigger. we werent sure at the time which out of the two we could afford and got told by our broker that we could afford the chandler. Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 42Apr 12, 2013 1:01 pm Aw Hachy, sorry to hear about that I am sure everything will work out though! At least you have some notice so hopefully you can sort it all out ahead of time with your hubbys work, and at least you had to money to pay for the extra deposit! Just concentrate on the most important rooms you will be using all the time if you can and do the rest as your living there! Have you used any of your vouchers? I heard about them but have no clue what you can actually use them for? The quote we recieved from them was also the cheapest (they were the most friendly too). Will PM you later as I cant rememeber the name atm. Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 44Apr 12, 2013 1:35 pm thanks zub. elle i asked about the vouchers when we had our selections appt and the colour consultant didnt have a clue what i was talking about and had to go and ask someone. they are for after the build for any work you want done, air con, letter boxes, paving, water tanks etc. we might use a couple but probably not as building where we are it may not actually benifit us once the discount is taken off as people usually charge for the travel expenses, have to look into it a bit more. there is one where you can get 500 free pavers once you have purchased a certain amount. do you have a colour selections book? at the end of the day with the extra $$$ it is just that, money. i still have a hubby and 2 beautiful boys, we have our health and jobs. Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 45Apr 12, 2013 2:05 pm Nope we don't have it yet, should in the next couple of days though! That is true! have to focus on the positives! Maybe you'll win the powerball next week. Fingers crossed for you. We have concrete slabs under all our fences where we are--won't be able to afford that in the new place, that's for sure. The fellow we have asked to draw up a landscape plan says he fills a trench with stuff the dog won't be able to dig out, and then covers the top with something solid--I forget exactly, but it sounded as though it would do the job. Hope you can use the vouchers, but I have to admit there's not much there that we want to make use of. Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 47Apr 16, 2013 9:06 pm Hi hachy, Just checking in to see how you are going with finance? We are waiting to hear if we can move our septic into the front yard from the back, as otherwise we cant get a pool or have a 22000l rainwater tank where we wantt it..... Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 48Apr 17, 2013 1:48 pm yay formal approval on finance now to wait on the paperwork to sign our lives away haha. fingers crossed for you zub with the moving of the septic tank. Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 50Apr 17, 2013 3:16 pm Yay for you hachy. Hope you get your approval zub13. Thought we might have our engineering report by now but we don't. Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 55Apr 18, 2013 7:23 pm hachy hubby bought some home/gardening magazines yesterday, this house business is getting serious now It's a scary, exciting, confusing, annoying and rewarding (hopefully!) Journey!!!!! Good luck with you landscaping planning. hachy land is being released next friday building shouldnt be too far away now yay. What does 'land being released mean'? Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 56Apr 19, 2013 12:51 am hi zub, not sure if i have used the correct terminology but it is what hubby told me. pretty much means it is officially ours to start building on i think and that we have the ok to start building on it. i am looking forward to doing the front garden except for the $$ Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 57Apr 19, 2013 8:11 am hachy, I saw in another thread discussion of using independent inspectors to check things at various stages of the build. Are you going to hire someone to do this? I'm getting worried about being so far away and not able to visit the site every day. Or will you have moved down to Adelaide by the time yours is under way? Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 58Apr 19, 2013 2:08 pm hi lucinda, um i am not sure to be honest about stages of getting an independent building inspector at various stages, would be ideal but not sure if we could afford to get everything checked constantly. i was thinking of getting one for handover so we arent accepting crap that we will have no idea about ie things being left out or not done properly. still dont know what is happening with hubby's job and when we are going to be moving back. hubby and the store manager(who is on holidays this week and next) sent off an email to hr about it as #1 we need somewhere to live and hubby needs a job role somewhere and #2 the store manager wont pay for 2xpeople to do the same job role as it comes out of his stores wages not a national payroll thing where it is just charged off to woolies. really hope we find out soon as it is stressful enough with the building stuff and now having to worry about having somewhere to live, i know if we have absolutely nowhere to go mum would probably let us stay with her and dad but that is not ideal when we have small kids and also we couldnt have our pets there. have you recieved anything regarding your build yet? Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 59Apr 19, 2013 8:33 pm It does sound expensive to have someone check regularly. Good idea to think about someone before handover. Sending positive thoughts that accommodation and job get sorted in a way that is best for you. We've been told our engineering report will be here next week. Re: chandler alfresco in the barossa 60Apr 21, 2013 5:44 pm Hi, We are considering an independent building inspection but it costs so much!!! We are going to be inspecting the slab, frame and roof and will be keeping an eye on the plumbing as well. Not sure if it is worth getting in someone at the end as what could they check when gyprock is covering everything and the house is complete? Hello!
