I can't believe it got through council approval and everything else to this stage and only now it's being picked up??!!?? How about swopping your fridge and your oven/cooktop around? So your oven is next to your microwave? Would that work? I really think it is up to DAH to come up with a suitable solution rather than suggesting a smaller cooktop Swapping it may be a difficult option as the gas point will need to be moved. i'm pretty sure that's in the slab (well there's something covered by a cap which i assumed was the gas ) also, they will have to get a plumber back in to move the water for the fridge. Why does this have to be so hard this late in the game there are no real options! its just making do! Burnsfirsttime Does it have to be 111mm from the back wall and the side wall or just the side wall? What about moving it to under the window? It's 111mm from the side of the wall I believe. I can't move it under the window was the rangehood needs to be mounted on a wall. If you think it would still be nice on other bench against window maybe you can suggest that and they fork out for the reinforced glass or whatever it is you need behind a cooker? I think it would be nice there. Stare out window whilst cooking... And have room either side of stove top for prepping work etc? Not as cramped as where it is now perhaps? Or does it muck up your underneath cupboard arrangements too much? Re: Kelsey78’s First Home in Honeywood DAH Build- Kitchen Dr 384Dec 04, 2014 4:50 pm Beazley77 What a pity! I think it would be nice there. Stare out window whilst cooking... And have room either side of stove top for prepping work etc? Not as cramped as where it is now perhaps? Or does it muck up your underneath cupboard arrangements too much? Thanks Beazley. That’s how we originally wanted it but as you said it mucked up the cupboards. Essentially we only had corner cupboard space to utilise for dishes and pots. That was the only reason why we changed it! oh how I wish I could change it back now. The problem with doing it now is there is nowhere to mount the rangehood. So unless they want to replace the windows it can’t be an option. If they do offer that then I’m back to the struggle with no storage! If it encroaches on the fridge space, I hate to say it, but downsizing your hotplates might actually be the best option. Moving gas, electricity and water supply at this point is going to be a nightmare. I hope you can find a resolution you're happy with. What an absolute pain in the arse! Is there room to do this, Kelsey? It's a great idea. You could have a hidden rangehood in the overhead cupboards above the splash back window. Although I'm not sure what this would entail structurally. A lot of delays, not doubt. Good thinking Burnsfirsttime! Also keep in mind that fridges are often deeper than the space the builder provides so depending on your model you might find you have even less space than shown on the plan. I have only just finished grey float! However - what a bummer about the hotplate - surely this is something they should know and the fact it's gone on so long is crazy. I also like the idea of the glass splash back (if possible) since that's how I am having my kitchen. I really hope DAH find a solution for you, one that suits you guys and doesn't take too long. I really feel for you. I pretty much grabbed my plans straight away to check as we have our hot plate in a similiar spot. I'm not sure if you've got enough room to move the wall? What would the distance be between the wall and your fridge and would the fridge door open and leave any room? As much as I like a glass splash back, the gas plumbing and other changes might be impossible. I know it's not your preference, but we redid our kitchen 3 years ago and put in a 700mm gas hotplate. It's really big enough and doesn't look out of place with our 900mm oven. It all seems like a pain in the arse at this stage! I'm not confident there will be enough space with a 900mm space between the fridge and wall. Burnsfirsttime I think they should change your window to a splashback window giving you space for overhead cupboards and a place for your range hood. I really like this idea, I always did! We were deterred from this idea from our sales consultant due to the practicality of cleaning the window with all the food splashes, especially if we have blinds! But it seems like a good fix now especially if we add overheads! fancy pants Burnsfirsttime I think they should change your window to a splashback window giving you space for overhead cupboards and a place for your range hood. Yep this really concerns me! And what is worse is we measured the recess today and it is 60mm shorter than the plan!! What else could go wrong in that space!! I know that feeling to well, While we were waiting 9 and a half weeks for our brickwork to start, people who got slabs after us already had timbers going up. Don’t worry I’m sure they will catch-up over other stages of the build This is probably one of the bonuses about having a small house, things seem to get done alot quicker!
