Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building in SA - 2012 381Nov 13, 2012 11:57 am Hello Fellow South Aussies, I haven't posted on Homeone for quite a while now as we built in 2009 with Fairmont and have now been in almost 3 years, my how time flies! We are obviously all settled in but one last thing we want to do is install Ziptrak blinds on our alfresco area, we got some quotes a couple of years ago but decided it was too expensive and not totally necessary, unfortunately the house next door has been demolished recently along with a large tree that shaded us from the afternoon sun nicely, now we feel we must do something to stop the glare and heat. I wondered if anyone else has installed the Ziptrak system (or similar) and if so who you went with and what their service/price was like. I hope everyone is traveling well in the lead up to the "silly season" Regards, Vid Re: Building in SA - 2012 382Nov 29, 2012 10:06 pm How did you go with blinds Vid? I have a long way to go yet ... after two months and three attempts we are still waiting for our plans. The draftsman keeps missing small things. Here's the last attempt. Once the CSDs on the WIR and 'wall' at the edge of the breakfast bar appear, we'll rubber stamp it. Because we didn't like the draftsman's interpretation of the gable at the entry we're scrapping it and are now having the verandah flat, not pitched. Incredible! Re: Building in SA - 2012 384Dec 07, 2012 10:41 am TomCat How did you go with blinds Vid? Hi TomCat, We had them put in yesterday and they look fantastic, in the end we got Robertsons Blinds (Larry) to do them, his quote was the best of anyone's and his attention to detail and professionalism was excellent, we'd recommend him to anyone ! Re: Building in SA - 2012 385Dec 08, 2012 12:38 am They look fantastic. Will definately keep them in mind Re: Building in SA - 2012 386Dec 08, 2012 6:17 pm hey guys, can anyone recommend places for the following in SA please? - concrete/driveway - landscaping - downlight supply+install - solar - window coverings / plantation shutters - front fencing - building inspector for the periodic inspections Cheers Guys. Initial Deposit 28/09/2012 // Prelim Contract Signed 25/11/2012 Selections 21/1/2013 to 23/1/2013 // Contract Signed 22/2/2013 Site Start 21/5/2013 // Slabbed 30/5/2013 Re: Building in SA - 2012 388Dec 11, 2012 12:32 pm vid your blinds look fantastic!!! Do you get much wind in your area? How would they stand up to gusts of wind? We wanted to do something like that on one side of our alfresco but as we are in the foothills backing onto a gully we were told they probably couldn't take the wind. But they look so nice. Re: Building in SA - 2012 390Dec 11, 2012 1:08 pm Hi everyone, i am a newbie to this forum, stumbled accross it on the weekend. Hi Dani, Welcome, I'm not sure if there are other ways of uploading photos but I put mine on imageshack, then use a link in this forum, I think there are many photo sites like imageshack. Hi Pellana, I'm not sure about the wind factor with Ziptraks, we do get windy conditions but I think it would be far less that where you are, I've seen them installed in commercial situations in open areas so I assume they'd be okay, they make a mention of high winds on their website. link below: http://www.ziptrak.com.au/cms-ziptrak/index.phps Re: Building in SA - 2012 393Dec 11, 2012 8:05 pm Pellana TomCat how are your plans coming along? Have they made the changes? Your plans look great btw Thanks Pellana. Yes, the changes were made. BUT while we were w-a-i-t-i-n-g, we got them to add something else and wouldn't you know it, that came back wrong Oh well, I just received my pile of decorating books I ordered from Amazon - that should keep me happy over the Christmas break. Re: Building in SA - 2012 394Jan 21, 2013 11:38 am An update on our place... Council approval has been granted (just before Christmas). Have had final Builders Interview... Have found that Fairmont's building insurance is for the wrong Lot Number so we are waiting for them to fix that (add it to the list of stuff ups) We might have a slab down by the end of February, with any luck... Re: Building in SA - 2012 395Jan 21, 2013 9:56 pm Will be nice to see another house starting down your end RJ. Danni looking forward to seeing your plan. Please post here when you've worked it out Re: Building in SA - 2012 396Feb 19, 2013 9:44 am Well Commencment letter was received by the Builders on Friday so hopefully we will have some sort of work done on the block in a couple of weeks or so. A quick question or the rookie variety. Our building consultant gave us the name of a retired builder to help with Fencing/Retaining/Stormwater and we were wondering when are you able to start doing the retaining/stormwater? Can this be done when the house is in lockup or do you have to wait until after handover? Just trying to get an idea of when we should be looking at contacting this ex-builder (and a few others) to get a quote... Any help would be great. As far as our builder went we were instructed that the stormwater HAD to be done once the roof/guttering was complete because if flooding occurred and we hadn't done it the responsibility was ours, with the fences etc we waited and did after handover but organized it well before hand. Good luck with the build. Re: Building in SA - 2012 398Feb 19, 2013 12:41 pm RedJase Fencing/Retaining/Stormwater and we were wondering when are you able to start doing the retaining/stormwater? May be easier (and cheaper) to do the retaining before building/walls get in the way. As previously said, do storm water as soon as down pipes are on, just in case we have an early winter. Wait until handover to do fencing so it won't get damaged by tradies/graffiti etc. Re: Building in SA - 2012 399Feb 21, 2013 1:22 pm RedJase Well Commencment letter was received by the Builders on Friday so hopefully we will have some sort of work done on the block in a couple of weeks or so. Bugger, I have finally managed to contact him and he won't do it because the retaining will be 1.5m and he won't do over 1. Sigh... So, can any one recommend a couple of good, competitively priced, business that would quote on the whole kit and caboodle... ? I bow to your superior experience... Cheers Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11828 Elvis has left the building... The site supervisor quit after 2 month on the project. I guess he was just instructed to bark at people, but didn't like when he was… 26 21618 |
