I really really honestly hate to say this Mrs JM but I did try and warn you well before you had a start date... you've had a terrible run and i'd love to say it will get better but..... I am absolutely terrified of what is ahead to be honest. This is structural so super important but I have a ridiculous obsession with things being as I imagined aesthetically so if anything goes wrong... Tiling, windows, kitchen..... I will lose my mind. I just envisage a * tiler, electrician stuffing up our lighting.... They obviously have no standards when it comes to hiring trades. I wish with all my heart we could unsign! My advice to you Mrs JM is to lay it all out when you meet the tradies. Tell them you're a perfectionist who needs everything to be centred or aligned or positioned just so. Who cares if they roll their eyes - you're paying them. Things I learned: - Powerpoints and switches - they will attach them to the closest stud unless you ask for them to be centred/evenly spaced/positioned just so. Also tell them you want multiple switches installed at the same height or they might do them haphazardly - Fans and pendants - think about future furniture placement vs putting them centre of the ceiling space. Our dining pendant is centred over the table not centred in the ceiling space and it looks much better IMO. But I had to ask for it specifically. - Tiles - ask for the grout lines for both floor and wall tiles to be aligned. Ask where the silver tile edges will go. Ask what colour silicon they're using in certain places. We have white silicon against black tiles in some places because I never specified what I wanted. Basically specify absolutely everything you're expecting, otherwise they will do it their way. They will not change something just because it's not how you planned/imagined it - if it's been done within acceptable Australian standards and as per plans, it's considered done for good. I learned that the hard way. Re: Coral Homes general build thread 3687Mar 11, 2016 8:36 am manderinne My advice to you Mrs JM is to lay it all out when you meet the tradies. No one knows the house as well as you do - trust in yourself and don't take any sh*t!! Sort your nice but useless SS out, spell it out to him how this should never have happened, remind him of the contract due date and tell him how you expect him to be on top of every little thing from now on as you most certainly will be!
