Hey Mirz...following up the conversation from Henley's thread - did you DIY your alarm system or got it via Henley ?

Our alarm was fully installed by Henley.

Mirz, if we would like to install alarm system by ourselves post handover, do we need to ask Henley to do some pre-wiring in the house? Or can an alarm system company just come and do the wiring without Henley's preparation?

Does Henley's alarm system have window breaking detection thing like that...?

Or else can we install the new battery operated systems instead of doing the pre-wiring? Someone advised that it is better as when the mains are disconnected the alarms won't work, so the safest would be the battery operated systems. Mirz, which one would be better in your opinion?

Yes, you can request Henley for wiring rough ins for alarm system you are after. i think it was around $375.

i would advise to talk to your SS before bringing in any external contractor on site.

No, Henley alarm packages don't include recess sensors for windows glass.

all security alarms come with backup battery, so by turning off power from outside wont impact your alarm system. These backup batteries have enough juice to last for 15-20 mins easily without power.

IMHO, all domestic security alarm systems are mainly deterrent for opportunists burglars.

If you are building a double story house where no one would downstairs overnight, please request your alarm installer to install ground floor on away settings. This will help you to keep ground floor armed when you would be in bed upstairs.

Also in double story house, it is next to impossible to install security alarm system post handover.

In most of open plan houses 4 PIRs are good enough, wont recommend to go buzzerk with 8 or 12 PIRs.

note: PIR are security alarm sensors, where you can see a small blinking light on movement.

Just out of curiosity which package did you take with Henley and does it come with an LCD screen, a network router and garage remotes ? Just taking some quotations now and realized that these add ons can cost you alot of extra money !

It's nothing fancy, but does its job pretty well.

Our HD projector delivered today. Hooked up temporary and watched Ocean Thirteen on Netflix. Loving it already

It's just on wall. I thought to give it go on plain wall first and see if there is any need for screen.

It's my first projector, and found it cool to watch movies at home.

I'm thinking of a Benq. Reviews and good and price is excellent for the specs. Plus, will do nicely for the NBA

I picked one from benq website it's w1070 for $722.

It's a refurbished model but for this price it's well worth it.

Thanks knyght. I was after a cheap tv for bedroom but then came across this discontinued model. There were too many positives reviews for this model.

, but if people want to do flooring and carpet post handover, do we usually let Henley install skirting upfront or install skirting by ourselves post handover after the flooring is done?

If you dont want quad, can ask them to leave off the skirts and they'll leave them in the garage along with a supply of paint.
If you are going to carpet, you would get the skirts installed as per normal as I'm not aware of people installing skirts over carpet.

We have asked for the skirts not to be installed on the ground floor only as we plan to lay boards post handover on the ground floor and carpet the upstairs.

What boards are you going with? The more I see the laminates, the less I like them...

The way they install natural timber is interesting... Seal the slab, fix yellow tongue to the slab, then install the boards on the yellow tongue...

You lose about an inch of ceiling height, but have a "proper" timber floor without there hassle and extra cost of a dropped slab and joists
