It will leak air like nothing else Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3282Jun 13, 2017 8:24 am We decided we will have the door changed to what it is supposed to be. We asked for a lockable door, as we want to be able to leave the garage access door open of a day for the dogs incase it storms or whatever. Didn't even think about the cavity slider leaking air but very good point GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3283Jun 13, 2017 9:47 am Called the SS and he gave me every excuse under the sun not to change it to a door, it's too narrow, they are starting plaster tomorrow and this will cause delays, you guys shouldn't need a lockable door in your area, pretty quiet there etc. He said he thought it would be too narrow so made the decision to change it He said he can add a lock to it but it's only a little one for cavity sliders. I don't know what to do. I honestly would stick with the plan for security. They should make decisions on your behalf. If you let them get away with this, what else will they try and swindle just cause... Of course it's entirely your decision but it's also your money and your forever home Building in Stone Ridge with CMA - Follow my build: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=85842 Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3285Jun 13, 2017 10:07 am I'd make them change back to the hinged. Air leaks would be my main concern. Our garage access door has been hung very crooked creating a big gap one side of the top, there's no way I will be accepting it, my first thought is it will leak like a sieve! Funny thing is they left it flapping about unsecured all weekend and it busted one of the hinges so they'll have to fix it anyway ! Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3287Jun 13, 2017 10:46 am It sounded like he didn't want to change it... like it was too hard and annoyed that I asked for it to be changed and then said well call me back with your decision didn't I just call with my decision GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3288Jun 13, 2017 11:12 am Omg I'd be getting them to change it to what it's meant to be. How dare they change it without your consent to start with! He's probably pulling the delay card thinking that you'll just give in and go with it Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3289Jun 13, 2017 11:15 am Your decision was what was on your blinkin plans!!!!! No way on earth would I accept a slider on the garage, absolutely CB, you should fight them on this one. You will kick yourself for ages afterwards if you don't. It's not that hard to change a cavity to a hinged. It's absolutely more difficult to change a hinged to a slider. At least you're doing it the easy way. You want your house delivered as per your plans, simple. Poor you Make it clear to him that he does not have the power to unilaterally change things on a whim. Your house, your decision. He could have at the very least phoned you first, then he wouldn't be in the situation where he needs to change it. Grumpy on your behalf Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3290Jun 13, 2017 11:17 am No way I'd go a cavity door to the garage! If he wants a cavity door to the garage, tell him to instal one at his own home and put yours as planned. Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3291Jun 13, 2017 11:19 am Make them build what's on the plan. We have a cavity slider between our house and our "airlock". We had to get some weather sealing strip on the conventional hinged door between garage and airlock; before we did the shortcoming of the slider was very obvious. Now it does its job just fine (it only has to stop huge warmth or coolth transfer while the hinged door is open) Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3292Jun 13, 2017 11:30 am I've sent an email asking for the door to be as per plan, for the paper trail and also so I didn't have to listen to all the reasons why it should stay Why must this be so friggen hard? I'm beginning to think that they aren't using the council approved plans because or very first set of plans had obs glass in the bathrooms and a cavity slider to the garage, these were the first things I changed and what do you know they stuffed them up GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Charlibear's Build - Week 21... 3293Jun 13, 2017 11:48 am As others have commented definitely asked for the door as per the plan, as its a security issue and heating issue. I would say to your SS, that your not interested in hearing excuses on why they failed to build as per your approved plans. Check what plans he is using asap. Otherwise might be further stuff ups. Mart got up there when we did handover and they dumped it where ever they could be bothered. Covered the exhaust fan with it for the shower powerpoint and all. left it in piles we had to evenly distribute parts ourselves and we found they didnt even attatch the vent for the oven exhaust fan. All the heat and oil was just going into the frikken roof. Mister had to get up there and fix it himself too. Glad to be over the build now. Hopefully not much longer for you my love! Do check the plans they are working off, I found my builder was using the wrong plans (not my final signed off version, but one version prior), and I had the same issue with the bathroom window being obscured, though I left it.. and I managed to notify them before the shower screens went in wrong. Also the lights are lovely. I wish I had thought to do something similar for my pillars. Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
