Just wondering if anyone has managed to negotiate and bring forward a start date, they have us in for 31st JULY which feels sooooooooooooo long away.
The start date is just a final date by which construction has to start otherwise they are entitled to increase your contract price due to the rising cost of construction materials. It's mainly there because they can't give you the contract price indefinitely. You should look at it as a more "latest construction can start". If all your approvals and selections are done prior to that date then they will start earlier.
Check your contract. I think there is a clause that states they have to start X days after everything (selections and approval) has been finalised. The clause mentioned is there so that the builder can't delay you indefinitely. "Start date" is there to ensure you don't delay unnecessarily.
Hey alok I was reading your blog. I think we are up to the same stage as we are now waiting on final drawings to be drawn up after contract signing. What do you guys need to do next?
