Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2521Sep 29, 2017 7:22 pm So I don't know if I love the paved steps, they are not quite what I was expecting but much happier now they are finished. I just remind myself to be grateful for all the work the guys put in to get them done. Plus since the steps were free, I won't be complaining. The best thing is as they are pavers, I can always rip them up and start over again in the future if I want to. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After 😀 2524Sep 29, 2017 9:39 pm Steps are looking great! With some edging and the porch done it will all come together nicely https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2526Sep 29, 2017 11:01 pm aloenyx Another long day of landscaping today!!! 4 men on site to help and this is where we ended up. Paving of steps is 90% done.. still have to be grouted/mortared.. or something like that. Plus they need to be properly cleaned off.. we may also change the top step to level it a bit better. The pattern is a kind of haphazard basket weave.. dad refused to cut any tiles, so this was the best I could do. The are straight on one edge and then come in by 200mm each step after that, so 1600 at the top and 1000 at the gate. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Side view... plan is for the grass to grow right up to the steps on the far side.. although am considering maybe putting gravel or mulch around them..?? So take the grass out to the outside of the pillar. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Plants will go on the other side. Need to do something with the porch... and then clean everything off. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Other angle. Planting needs to be finished. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Starting to look really nice, green grass, red tree... All the colours are coming together.. side gate is looking good. Need to finish off the front fence.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So we put the last of the turf in at the front, looks so much more green then the other turf we laid. Hopefully it will all be nice and green in a few more weeks. Few things I still need to decide: - What colour should my screen door on the front be? A shade of blue, black, surfmist? - With the garden bed along the front fence, should I make it wider, or smaller? Should I extend it to be one straight line across the front (the tap is in an awkward space). - What edging should I use? Was thinking metal, but its a bit pricey.. - Should I keep the plants that are there, or should I change to something else.. and what should I change to? - Should I extend the garden beds, either under the master bedroom window or along the fence? Left to do out the front: - Infill for the front fence - Sealing of driveway and pavers - Do something with the porch area (options are painting, spray on paving or tiling) - Planting along steps and side of driveway - Garden edging, mulching the beds - Tap cover Wow a true labour of love! It looks really nice already. Regarding your screen door, could look at ours. We have a deep ocean paint on ours with a black screen door in front of it. I don't think I can answer your gardening questions as I'm not a greenthumb! I have a feeling you can always chop and change as tastes change. Dad came back today to pick up his tools and the last pile of dirt.. can finally park my car in the garage again DDD Hoping to do a bit of tidy up outside for the rest of the day (if the rain holds off!!) With any luck planting will happen in the next 3 weeks. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2529Sep 30, 2017 3:16 pm So managed to do a bit of a spring clean outside. Sun is out for the afternoon I've cleaned all the windows inside and out to try and see if any are scratched. Does look like a few are scratched, probably from inproper cleaning. Backyard is looking a bit better since we took the sand off. Cannot wait to replace those frangpanis!! My magnolias are starting to bloom Like ⋅ 1 comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Short side.. I moved all those roof tiles from one side to the other, as Panda is using them to get up the fence and on the roof, but turns out she doesn't need them. She goes up the fence, onto the neighbors roof then across to mine. Found her on the roof 4 times since Friday night. She can't get herself down, so I have to stand on the bin and drag her down basically. Last time I ended up finding her over the back neighbors fence, had to climb into their yard to get her So she is now banned from going out the back, cat run only for her (and I thought Cassie was going to be the problem child). That garage door needs replacing, its hollow.. and the bottom has broken off. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front yard. Had a bit of tidy up today. Bit of a sweep and hose off. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Loving my house D The colours really pop!! Can't wait till we seal the pavers and driveway, finish the porch and fence.. should look good. The red weeping maple looks great against that white render. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Street view. Damn streetlight XD Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Neighbors have nearly completed their landscaping.. (in one day!!) Should have hired their landscapers Bins in the front yard is a bit Its totally against estate rules, but their house is boundary to boundary so no idea where they are suppose to put them. Really hopefully we will be able to go plant shopping next weekend.. and then planting them the week after D My knees are so sore. Worked hard today!!! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2530Sep 30, 2017 9:07 pm Arrgh!! Artwork is so hard. Aside from the issues of finding affordable artwork.. I can't find anything I like. I hate bright colours, red, yellow.. I hate anything with people in it.. I hate creepy art (which is about half of it to me XD) I like landscapes, but I get bored with them after awhile.. going to be so hard to find art XD Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After 😀 2531Oct 01, 2017 3:02 pm I went to the markets today and there was so much lovely nice artwork made by locals. Definitely going back again when I'm in my house to get some! Maybe you could check out some local markets? Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2532Oct 01, 2017 7:01 pm I will definitely check some out As soon as I get a free weekend. This weekend was another busy one!! But it was good too, got more things done around the house. Its crazy how many little jobs there are to do. I finally got bulbs for my lamps and got some invitations to send out for the house warming. Also bought two plants for the cat run, some nice deep red cordelines. Mum and I have a plan for planting out the front yard, next week off to buy the plants. All in all a job well done. Hoping the shower door goes in this week, and screen doors maybe next week. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2533Oct 03, 2017 7:32 pm Have redrawn my landscape plans D I think I've finally decided on plants. Not too different, will replace the 3 lillipillies out the back with the same magnolias I already planted. They seem to work, bunnies don't eat them, and they should eventually form a really nice hedge. Will also have to replace the two dead frangapanis in my pots. Out the front I need to buy the plants to go down the driveway. Already have the daphne just have to plant it. And have to swap some hebe around and maybe buy one.. Not sure what will go in the pots.. Anyways, hopefully this will look good. Limelight, cousin it, or a taller one? My tip would be to go with something taller to add more interest & depth to the garden bed & to hide the fence. Btw, i like how you have the 'plants' arranged in a curvy manner instead of straight lines - that will look very effective! I'd also consider adding a 5th daisy around the maple. Btw, the fairy stars - they're a tulbaghia (society garlic) right? If so, you could actually divide them into smaller clumps and plant some between your hebes. I was thinking Limelight, I like the thinner leaves. But I like the idea of putting some height in here, so maybe I can mix it up with a few of the high ones... will have to have a look. My neighbor has a lime tuff and I love it D I want to say the curvy manner was planned, but I'm just terrible with paint XD Though with the way we plant it will probably look like that, not a straight line in this place. Yuh, that one. I couldn't spell it so just said fairy stars XD Ooh, I like the idea of putting them between the hebe to mix it up. I was worried the hebe might be a bit boring, but not sure what to put around them. Thanks so much for your ideas!! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2537Oct 05, 2017 9:10 am Who knew clocks were so expensive!! I want a wall clock for my kitchen, because I'm sick of hunting down my phone to see the time. They are so much more expensive than I was expecting though, around $100 for a really nice one. Originally I wanted one of those big oversized rustic looking clocks, but now thinking something a bit more slim and simple. I quite like this one from Bed Bath N Table Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2538Oct 05, 2017 9:29 am WOW this furniture is beautiful!!! I think they still have the Apollo set which is same style, just slightly different colour.
