I am loving visiting my house everyday at the moment cause it seems that each day they do something new, which I like. Even on the days where they have not done anything I still love going there and walking through saying soon I will be here and it will all be worth it, lots of smiling from the dog right now! You will be ahead of us soon Re: Building in SA! 2504May 12, 2010 12:01 am Well today I was a very happy person. They got a 2nd skip and got rid of all the rubbish, the bin is nearly half full. It's amazing how much difference it makes when its cleaner. It was getting to me so much that I was going to go up on the weekend and put everything in the bin and sweep the house but all I have to do is sweep the house. My fiance goes why would you want to do that..... we pay them to do it and it will just get dirty again but I feel better when its clean Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building in SA! 2505May 12, 2010 6:51 am jessie87 Well today I was a very happy person. My fiance goes why would you want to do that..... we pay them to do it and it will just get dirty again but I feel better when its clean Jess, I've been to ours 3-4 times and given the site a clean up inside and out. I feel better when it's done whether they should do it or not. it's a good workout too! The painter in now is cool, he actually swept the inside top to bottom literally. he doesn't like mess but said a lot of painters just use the brush to sweep off the dust from skirting and that is it. I'll get some pictures in a day or two but it's only now hitting us we almost have a home. I don't know what it is, it could be simply the painter being there, the lights on, the floors swept but it's like all that combined really drove it home. Feel free to pop in and have a squizz if it's useful. Let the painter know I said it's OK (saves you breaking in then LOL) Your place looks superb (and big). The size is something my wife could never get used to. Our house proper is only 189m2 and for a European, quite a sizeable place but nowhere near as big as the others around us. In fact, just about twice the size of the semi detahced we owned in the UK. LATE NEWS You can call me flip flop but latest news on what we want to do with our driveway is back to pavers but with a twist. I'm going to get Topcat landscaping (Trevor Lock) who did our stormwater to prep the driveway and all other paving areas ready for us to pave ourselves. That will include cement treated rubble base out front of 150mm and both sides and rear (normal prep). All up, around $2,500 and money well spent IMHO becuase I don't have to fuss with separate bobcat hire, carting stuff in and out etc. For the driveway, we think the PGH Chestnut paver will be a nice match with the PGH Castillo brick. I want the chance to actually do the drieway ourselves. We'll be there a long time, if it needs ripping up in 5 years, well it needs ripping up. For the Alfresco, we were seriously considering wood but will put in something like Boral Aspenstone. Re: Building in SA! 2506May 12, 2010 6:59 am hoffdog Thank you everyone for your lovely comments. Even on the days where they have not done anything I still love going there and walking through saying soon I will be here and it will all be worth it, lots of smiling from the dog right now! mate its all worth it .. there has not been a day that we have not been around to our house since the frame went up .. even when we both say .. we will not go around today I sneak around at lunch time from work. Our fence went up yesterday and they will finish it today so its making it feel very homely and personal now .. all our colors and our selections are starting to appear and come together to produce "our House" rather than just another house (because we have looked at so many display homes whilst we wait) . I had a walkthrough with the painter yesterday to pick out any faults I could find so he could fix them. even though we had selected a certain colour scheme the painter still gave us the option for how we want to paint our alfresco and downpipes etc .. ie .. all downpipes were ment to be one color but at the back we are going to paint them light whilst at the front we will paint them dark to go with other things. It is so nice having decent contractors. the only "turd" contractor we have had was the insulation guy (gave me a grunt for hello and then stole my sound screen insulation I put in the roof) 2.5 weeks to go Rossdale Homes "Houghton" Sovereign specification Re: Building in SA! 2507May 12, 2010 7:05 am jessie87 Well today I was a very happy person. My fiance goes why would you want to do that..... we pay them to do it and it will just get dirty again but I feel better when its clean its looking good jess .. it wont take long and you will be at lockup .. as for cleaning your place .. I know where you are coming from .. (i am male) but we go around every weekend and pick up the rubbish and clean up around our place. once it was at lockup we got the key and cleaned the inside .. swept and even took the vaacum over to do the sils etc .. as our SS said to me "it all helps, if you keep it clean the painter does not need a day to clean before he starts etc" .. plus it gives you a bit of ownership of your future home. the other trade off IMO is that you find issues within your home and you can get them fixed along the way Another thing (advice from our bricky) is to go around the house and pick up all the nails and screws after framing and the roof on. these items are buried on your block when they do the site clean up and are a nasty suprise when you are trying to do some gardening . we got a magnet from bunnings and attached it to a broom handle .. it worked a treat Rossdale Homes "Houghton" Sovereign specification Re: Building in SA! 2508May 12, 2010 7:55 am Good to see others feel the same about their site - DH went on weekend and picked up all the rubbish on site so it is not buried in a "site clean" at the end. Really wanted to sweep up the inside before the painter but did not get a chance but he did a good job. SS has told us walk through end of next week. Was a bit of a shock feel really disorganised now..... " BTW - Tpin your pics look great, as do jessies, hoffdogs and sw's bath HAH - it sounds like I'm sharing my bath with everyone Yes, I am rather happy about it!! Even if the plumber stole my pavers to set it up on! I'd prefer to have to buy new pavers that to continue feeling antsy about lack of progress on my house - small price to pay for a good night sleep tonight All the progress is looking fantastic!! I'm still wondering how many people will be in their homes before us - SS was hinting at 2.5-3 months, but that's of absolutely no value to us considering his track record. I'll believe a handover date when I have the keys in my hand! Re: Building in SA! 2512May 12, 2010 5:55 pm Hi all, Welcome to all the new comers and good luck with your project. It's been quite a few pages since my last post. I didn't have a lot to update but we have had some progress. The top section hebel was completed on Monday and the top section unitex render was done this morning (this is the unpainted colour). We're expecting eaves, gutters and roof to be completed next week (weather dependant) and the top section painted in solver pale biscuit. Once the mouldings go on the bay they can remove the scaffolding and start on the garage / alfresco roof frame. (fingers crossed they caught up) Still waiting for our stone, the building pessimist in me feels a problem looming..... Andronicus your house looks lovely and very palatial Re: Building in SA! 2515May 12, 2010 6:38 pm Yay for somewomans bath, hip hip hooray, awesome stuff. My gutters went on today, and the initial plumbing for the bathrooms, kitchen and laundry got done too, its all systems go. I really want the roof on. Re: Building in SA! 2516May 12, 2010 7:10 pm I had a thought about all those people who are cleaning their sites and houses. I think it's a way of investing energy-wise and making it 'yours'. We wait so long for this that it's almost a joy to do something to help it along. I'm thrilled for everyone who have had so much progress on their houses. Enjoy it. Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: Building in SA! 2517May 12, 2010 7:42 pm Kia ora! I couldn't resist logging in whilst I have a spare minute during my trip. So much has happened to everyone else since I last looked and it's great to see everyone moving along. It's making me more and more excited to see my place when I return on the weekend. From what I hear, the weather has been pretty good in Adelaide, so I'm hoping my frame has gone up. It will be good to do a walk through and remind myself how much bigger the house is compared to our current digs (but still a lot smaller than most new house being built). We cant wait for you to come back either freddyflop so we can see you photos of your house. They have been seriously motoring along on my place, something seems to be happening everyday. I really hope the roof is on tomorrow, make it look like even more of a house. Robin at least you know once you get through the paperwork its game on and full steam ahead. Looks like… 0 11858 Elvis has left the building... The site supervisor quit after 2 month on the project. I guess he was just instructed to bark at people, but didn't like when he was… 26 21661 |
