Our original plans included a solar gas/electricity boosted hot water system. Now it became clear that we will be having natural gas connected to our property. Our SS said, we should replace the solar hot water system with instantaneous gas hot water system, as it is pretty energy efficient and will save us a lot of money compared to solar one, as the solar system is very expensive. I remember having instantaneous hot water system many years ago in my first rental apartment and associate it with cheap accommodation. What is you opinion about instantaneous hot water system? Are there any cons about having one? Thanks. 2014 30/05 $3900 25/08 Contracts 02/10 DA submitted 2015 17/02 DA approved 02/04 Colors 10/04 Demo 09/07 Construction start 27/07 Fill 15/08 Slab 21/09 Frame 2016 08/01 Bricks Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2404Oct 28, 2014 8:49 pm Edmondss Does anyone know when you get the paint colour options? In your colour pack once you pay the $3900 (might be over $4000 by now!) but as long as it's taubmams, you can go off chart (at a price!). Just don't fall in love with a dulux colour ... A bit like cesarstone ... It's a resounding "no can do" from M! Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2405Oct 28, 2014 8:55 pm GillyM I think lock up will be soon...... I'm almost not looking forward to it cause I don't want to be locked out of our house!! But I know its part of the process and another step towards our house being completed. Next time I talk to the SS I'll be asking the question! Gilly i can tell you now lock up won't stop me ... Especially if they fail to install 6 window panels which are currently on the ground! Apparently the biggest stuff ups (as you know with the WIP debacle!) happen behind those closed doors. If you are a non "rule" breaker, i would suggest a once a week on site inspection from hereon in ....as gough would have said, gotta keep the bastards honest!!! Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2406Oct 28, 2014 9:22 pm SS said our walk through will be on Dec 12 and we could still have handover by xmas. But it is going to be a close one esp as the bank will need some time for the final payment. Hoping it will all work out ... Thanks for all the wishes. Gilly, our kitchen fit-out was about 2 weeks since gyprock completion. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2407Oct 28, 2014 9:27 pm After gyprock complete generally the kitchen & vanities will follow prior to painting. They will more than likely push to finish the home prior to christmas so they can themselves sign it off before break they usually do. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2408Oct 29, 2014 6:11 am Woohoo!!! Maybe kitchen in 2 weeks, shobha? Yeehah!! Can't wait to see it happenning!! How exciting for you to think you may be in for Christmas! Our SS tells me he is working towards PCI by Christmas shutdown, but I know this still means that we won't be in till (probably) February. Between bank, carpet, appliances, etc, I know there's still a bit to do after PCI. Villinaeliters...... We're certainly not too concerned when it comes to breaking a rule or two! Their "locked" fence hasn't stopped us yet! One of the things that I know is part and parcel of building a house, is all the dirt that is traipsed around. While they have cleaned up pretty well this week, one thing they haven't cleaned is the stacker door tracks. Whilst I am concerned about the dirt etc damaging the rollers on the doors, an upside to this is the build up of dirt in the corner where the door actually close...... well actually the dirt means they can't quite close enough to lock. So I won't even need to climb in through a window (unlady-like, I know, but I would do it if it was the only way!)..... I should be able to just stroll in through the door! But I will have my trusty milk crate if needs be to climb in...... just in case they do get that door locked! Edmondss...... I have a copy of the colour chart they gave us at our colour selection day. There's about 50 colours on it (3 pages of paint colour samples)...... I can scan it and send it to you, or I can type up a list of the names so you can check them out on the taubmans website. Any preferences? Fisher75..... we're still building, so can't comment on the pro's/con's to the hot water system, but we are also getting the instantaneous gas system. Lets hope it as good as our current solar setup! We have the double shower in the ensuite and I was worried about water pressure as in our last house I had to wait for hubby to finish his shower before I could even wash up. Not a problem. www.villinaatvoyager.blogspot.com.au Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2411Oct 29, 2014 7:56 am GillyM Woohoo!!! Maybe kitchen in 2 weeks, shobha? Yeehah!! Hi Gilly, it would be awesome to get a copy of the colour chart or a list - whichever is easiest for you. We didn't get one in our colour pack and would quite like to paint samples on our walls before colour selection. How long have you got for me to explain! A string of events, mostly as a result of miscommunication or no communication at all. We told our electrical consultant that we wanted to install our own appliances and she needed to know exactly which ones. We also told our pre construction rep and they charged us over $1000 to redo the BASIX to go from gas to electric for cooktop... that's the only change. So we were expecting the plans to reflect the change and waited for them to be redone. Mind you, we did ask our rep what we should do, wait or sign the ones that said gas and she didn't respond. So to cut a long story short, the plans were redone to reflect this change... two words to change took 1.5 weeks or so to do... not even a 5 minute job. The reps at head office are either overworked or don't have a clue on customer service. Our new rep seems good but only time will tell..... Villinaeliters - I too love the look of the bricks. Nice choice. Exactly our thoughts... we decided to go with our hearts for the items that we wouldn't change, ever, such as bricks, flooring, layout of the house, kitchen (if only they installed the kitchen on TOP of the tiles then we could change that in years to come but............ this is one of the reasons why we didn't do a waterfall edge). Cello_Collaroy - nothing at all wrong with being excited and distracted. This is a major event in your life!!! powerfamilybuild - Welcome!! Not here. We're building Santorini Mk2, though it's not looking too much like it after we finished with it. GillyM - glad to hear your issues have been resolved! I have been watching your house evolve and now I'm getting excited about ours. Can't wait! Fisher75 - Ever since our gravity fed HWS died in our old house we've had instantaneous gas and it's been great. The only issue I've had is with the maximum temperature is set too low making washing dishes painful but that's a law thing and an annoying one at that. We upgraded our HWS at a cost to 32L I think, and requested a hotter one so we're getting the 60 degrees version. If you don't ask, you won't get because M don't offer options for everything. Ren1979 - I too love my showers HOT that's why I noticed the drop in temperature when we changed ours in the old house. You couldn't do the clothes washing at the same time as showering as it would drain all the hot water but in our apartment, we don't have that problem. You could have someone in the shower, doing the dishes and washing clothes and nothing happens to the HWS. Not sure what the diff is. I know that some solar hot water systems have 75-80C inside the tank, which can be lowered when the water gets to the bathroom. But I don't understand why you have to have 50C in a dishwasher. Stupid rule? BTW, can those instantaneous hot water systems be set to a higher temperature later on? Lets say 70C instead of 60C? 2014 30/05 $3900 25/08 Contracts 02/10 DA submitted 2015 17/02 DA approved 02/04 Colors 10/04 Demo 09/07 Construction start 27/07 Fill 15/08 Slab 21/09 Frame 2016 08/01 Bricks Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2416Oct 29, 2014 7:37 pm Wow Villinaeliters and GillyM loving the look of your homes it's exciting to see the progress can't wait to be where you are... Fisher75 we replaced our electric hot water system with a gas continuous hot water system in our hold house and loved it would not go back. So happy for you! Marina fingers crossed for you too! Villinaeliters love your brick too! I think we are upgrading away from Leisure now to Pepper as the render and facade was just stressing me out. In the long term the extra 5k isnt massive and we liked Pepper from the outset just wanted to tighten the purse strings initially. Good bye budget! The brick looks so different on different houses. WKVillina, High five to land registration. Hopefully M gets back to us soon. Really upset at them. Still no plans for us either! Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 2419Oct 30, 2014 1:36 pm Fisher75 - Hopefully the dishwasher heats up water to the desired temperature. I just find that 55 deg isn't enough for grubby frying pans. I had to boil water in the kettle and use that. Not ideal. Our HWS in the unit is very hot, hotter than 55 deg I reckon so who knows how the rules work. As for setting them higher, I think it's illegal, not that anyone would know if you did it after handover. You need an electrician or someone who isn't scared of sparks. We googled our model and found a fix to get it hotter but hubby wasn't willing to get a perm and we didn't know anyone to do it for us on the sly. WKVillina - Good luck. Hopefully you wont have to wait too much longer MGardz - Thanks. Now the fence is up!! Port-a-loo next? Maybe it's there already. We're going for a sticky beak later, after work. Simple things can be soooo exciting Hopefully you'll get your plans soon too.
