Browse Forums Building A New House Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2221Oct 04, 2011 11:24 am Yes Nancy, it is down. I think I should call YVW for this. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2222Oct 04, 2011 12:05 pm Phone down. Internet down. Recycle water down. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2223Oct 04, 2011 2:23 pm Internet is out at my house too – tried calling my home phone number from my work desk and it gives a disconnected signal. Additionally, looking at the login history in iiNet's Toolbox web application shows that the last time it was online was 10.22 AM this morning (but I am not sure if this is Melbourne time or Perth time). I contacted iiNet via Twitter to ask if there was an outage that they were aware of and they said no. So I guess you'd have to contact VicUrban about this? Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2224Oct 04, 2011 3:22 pm I think the internet should be back on now for non-Arise residents – I just checked iiNet's Toolbox and it seems I'm online (for now, not sure how stable the connection is), and I tried calling my home number and it rang through properly. A little disconcerting about the lack of recycled water though. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2225Oct 04, 2011 3:28 pm Looks like I spoke too soon, disconnected again. EDIT: upon inspection of the iiNet login reports, it seems the connection flip-flops between online and offline every 15 - 16 minutes. Very annoying. Also ourhome, not sure if recycled water is back on in your house, but my wife just reported to me that the toilets at our house are flushing fine (not sure if the water stopped at my house at all today though). Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2226Oct 04, 2011 8:18 pm This problem of Internet going on and off has been to persistent. I don't know if it's iinet or VU that is responsible. Even my Neighbour is with iinet and having the same problem. Also, the service of '3' has gone from bad to worse. Signal goes off every now and then. Yes the recycled water is "ON" now. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2227Oct 04, 2011 8:23 pm Hi all, again asking you if any one has faced the same problem as me with VU for front of the house landscaping? I contacted one person at VU and after that the person has been on leave. After that the buck is just passed on to the next person. No one is coming up with a answer or a solution. It's sooooo easy to pass the buck. I wish life was so easy. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2228Oct 05, 2011 9:14 am ![]() Hi all, again asking you if any one has faced the same problem as me with VU for front of the house landscaping? I had a similar experience. They used the wrong type of gravel for our path and a different style of mulch. Tried contacting them by phone and email but never spoke to anyone who could help and no responses to emails. Eventually, I complained in person to the people at the sales office, they said they'd change it, but never did, it's not a big deal for me so I haven't bothered to chase them up any further. I also had the same experience with the contractors, they just turned up without any notification and did the work while we were out. They layout of the garden doesn't make sense for the slope of our yard, they didn't do any soil preparation and the overall workmanship was pretty poor. And that was all done six months after moving in when they specify in the contract it will be complete within three, and about 4 months after they said it would be done when we selected it. This is pretty typical of my experience with Vicurban, hopeless. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2229Oct 05, 2011 1:26 pm hi All. Anyone went with iinet and used the bob device for phone calls. I have a question regarding it. in my house, there are 2 data ports in each room. 1 is for PC/internet and the other i guess is for phone. Please correct me if i am wrong about how iinet's system works. The Bob2 device will connect to one of the internet /PC/data points in say the kitchen which still leaves say 6 data points and 7 phone points free. It has wireless capability which will allow me to use the phone like a mobile device within a particular distance/range and because it has a modem built in it will also enable me to use it as a 'wireless router' for say ipads, laptops, etc. Bob2 also has 4 'wired' ports. Question is ... will my use of the bob2 device therefore limit my ability to use the other 6 data ports i.e. can i simultaneously use the other 6 PC/data ports, the 4 data ports on the Bob device, and the wireless router to have at least 10 machines hooked up at once that can all simultaneously access the internet? iinet has not been able to answer this for me to my satisfaction. I just need a yes or no kind of answer and then an explanation as to why. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2230Oct 05, 2011 6:46 pm ![]() hi All. I just need a yes or no kind of answer and then an explanation as to why. Hi Verve, I too have an iiNet connection, but don't have a BoB – I am using a router that has similar capabilities though. I don't think that matters though, as our set ups are pretty much the same. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes, you can use all the ports in the house (at least you should be able to, if the installation in your cabinet was done properly). There is a caveat though; any connection done to your wall points will be a raw connection to the internet via iiNet. What this means is that your PC is connected directly without any firewall protection that any average router will provide. You are completely unprotected (unless you are running firewall software on your PC). If you connect your PC to your BoB (either wirelessly or to the port on the back of the device), you will have firewall protection. There has been some discussion about iiNet connections in the estate, some people say that none of their wall ports work and have to use wifi or connect to the BoB directly to get any internet connection, while others say that any port in the wall will work (well, the data ones at least). Hope that answers your question, I think what I said is correct but if there's something wrong and someone else points it out, I'm happy to stand corrected. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2231Oct 06, 2011 12:56 pm ![]() With regards to the landscaping the you are the luck one. that would have been good. Yes, we had problems last year - September. The preparation was atrocious. No/very little garden soil, and only 37 plants. We are on a corner block and so should have had more. Another block at the end of our street had 67. I took photos including a ruler stuck into the garden soil to show the depth that had been put down and got details from the VicUrban site and put all of these into a document which I took to the Discovery Centre (the old one as it was then) and personally gave it to the person in charge. I know that the document was actually advice for us particularly when doing or backyards ourselves, however she agreed that this was how the front landscaping was to be done. The contractor came back, added more soil, more plants taking it up to the 67 and more mulch. Definitely not how I would have designed the garden myself but it will do till we get the time, energy and money to do it our way. Below is the path to the document I used, when I drafted my letter. http://www.vicurban.com - New Home Documents and Guidelines - Landscape Handy Hints & Ideas - Part Two (opens PDF, 1.53MB) e.g. 6. Garden Bed Preparation: Ensure that the depth of topsoil in garden beds is at least I was told that VU only acts on items that have been sent to them in writing. Don't know if this is true but it worked in this case. 20 centimetres. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2233Oct 06, 2011 11:06 pm I got a call today from the VU rep. She was not at all professional in talking to me in her tone, pitch of her voice and her language. She just kept on saying that, they just have a limited budget for all landscaping. My frontage is too big for them to provide me with what I have signed for. My point in this is :- 1. Why was I not communicated of this budget issue when I signed my plan? 2. Why were the changes done without informing or consulting me? It was only when I raised an alarm did they stop doing what they were doing. 3. How can they have the same budget for different plots(corner lot, side garage, small frontage and a large frontage.)? this did not make any logic to me. Some of the plants that they have put up have already died. As of now they have stopped all the work on my landscaping. They would only commence when the VU rep will personally come to inspect what I am talking about. I would just wait and watch till Monday. Hope they open their eyes and see things properly. It's important to act rather than reacting. At present VU is just reacting to all my mails. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2234Oct 10, 2011 4:34 pm Hi everyone, i have been with iPrimus for a few weeks now (Stage 13) and have not had issues with internet, touch wood. And my recycled water seems fine too. Ourhome - i think what VU is saying about the "budget" for landscaping is $2500 depending on which stage you are in. I think the earlier stages the rebate was $5000. If you read the land contract it should have a section about it. And from what i understand it doesn't matter how big your block is, the same "rebate" or "budget" applies. Our frontage is 18m and i just did a count and have 57 plants. Don't think i read anything about a minimum number of plants, will have to dig it out and have another read. *edited number of plants. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2235Oct 11, 2011 9:22 pm It seems ridiculous for VU to have the same budget for landscaping for each LOT ... especially considering that the prices for each lot are different. I don't think there is anything in the sale contract specifying what the amount for landscaping will be. But in the plans provided, there is a caveat that VU reserves the right to alter the design/plans without notice ... arghhh!!!! Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 2239Oct 19, 2011 7:38 am You'd think that converting a fibre estate to NBN would be easy and only require back-office infrastructure. But there are no fibre estates on the 2012 rollout plans for NBNco. Fingers crossed for 2013. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/10/18 ... t_rollout/ http://www.nbn.gov.au/wp-content/upload ... ollout.pdf (I realise that if NBNco knows anything about Vicurban they wouldn't want to deal with them either; Internode also tried and gave up).
