Friends built a house and planted the required plants however some died and they replaced them with roses, when the council came back for the followup inspection they made then rip up the roses and put back the original plants. oh wow - that is serious controls for you! I am expect our Council may be the same. I asked our landscape architect this same question (whether need to plant exactly as per plans) some months ago, and his response was: no, so long as substantially similar. I agree it depends on who is signing off. We are getiing tiles for bathrooms/kitchen/laundry thru Don's and as there is over 120sq m of floor tiles downstairs we are having 2nd thoughts about laying them ourselves. So anyone know about the cost of laying tiles through Masterton or Don's??? But, after over 2 years of working with Masterton, researching, camping at Warwick Farm, and being dedicated to this thread (and H1!), we are about to change builders... More detail on my thread, but Masterton just aren't geared up for Customs. I think they do a fantastic job on their designs, but we have just had too many problems. Time to change my signature. As an aside - we were out at Kellyville today talking to our probable new builder (felt like dejavu from 2 years ago!). We learnt that in a few weeks the current Kellyville Homeworld will be closed. That is, closed as a display village, but opened as a residential suburb. That spun me out. But I guess that's what happens.... I have spent so much time on this thread though, that if you don't mind, I might still pop in from time to time... sniff... sniff... From us, well we're pretty close to the end, painters were in today and the tilers are finished, there actually isnt all that much left to do, so were hoping that we can take possession mid April which will be a month before contracted which is a massive bonus. We are looking to build a Masterton Home the Villina and at the moment are looking for land. We live in the Sutherland Shire at the moment but the land is scarce and expensive so we are looking for land in Shell Cove as they have different land releases for half the price. My question for those that have build the Villina is what size land should I be looking at that would fit this house on. Also I want to make the study bigger as I will be working from home and want to know how much you are allowed to change the plans. I was possibly looking at the Villina 41 which has the Media Room and wanting to move the Media Room to the right side of the Garage so it links into the Study so it would make the Study alot bigger. Would appreciate any advise you can give me as I can see you all have gone through alot to build your houses and are alot more experienced with the process than I am at the moment. Cathy Cathy, My advice would be to seek a land size to enable you to do a complying development. That will save you the hassle / time / cost of doing a full DA with the council. Unfortunately the villina 41 is massive approx 388sqm based on the Masterton site so for this you will need land over 900sqm. For complying developments look at the checklist for the basic information. http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/LinkClic ... &tabid=104 If really interested you can look at the full State Enviromental Planning Policy (SEPP) which details all information for a complying development. You should also check your local council requirements for any specific extra requirements so there are no surprises. Masterton do allow you to make changes. Changing internal walls / windows no problems. Based on SunshineT experience maybe you dont want to make too many changes where they will say it is a custom design. I dont know where this point is. The land we are looking at is down in Shell Cove and so they said you can build on 50% on the land so you need to look at the living area size and times by 2 and that gives the size land you would need. So looking at the Villiana 41 I need 703sqm with a 17.5 metre frontage. I also asked if I could move one of the rooms around and I can which is good news. I also may be able to go for Villiana 36 and change slightly to give me a bigger study which was why I wanted to go for Villiana 41. When we find the land I can get Masterton to look and see if the house we want will fit on it first before we do a site inspection to save the cost there. This is all very new to be so I welcome any assistance I get. Building: Masterton Villina Savoy in the Sutherland Shire http://nathanandvivienbuildahome.blogspot.com/ Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2013Mar 24, 2011 10:45 am Hi all, it's been ages since we posted but for some reason unable to sign in since Christmas so I have created new log on I'm just busting to tell you the news! we've moved house just around the corner and we the house is demolished. Pool is currently being installed have had a few minor hiccups but nothing to warrant a mental breakdown. Our demolition man didn;t install sediment control as per council guidelines as indicated in his quote, so the pool excavator guy kindly installed it for us on Saturday before the big down pour on Sunday... He also didn't disconnect the water properly so had to fork out an extra $400 to get that repaired and capped. NOw the pool installer has advised me they require electricity to the site....today so trying to organise that and get my head around exactly what is requried, I know that we have to provide the pole so does that mean we have to pay for the power the tradies use for the duration of our build?? that's it in a nutshell Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2014Mar 24, 2011 9:03 pm Hi Nathan and Vivien I drove past your house today and did not realise it was in Miranda. I said to my husband as we were driving past I am sure I recognise that house and when I checked this evening on your blog I was right. I will have to have another look again as we are wanting to build the Villina so it is great seeing yours. Good to hear all is progressing well. Cathy Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2015Mar 24, 2011 9:09 pm Stalkers...... Yeah pretty happy with it, there are some issue that we need to keep our eye on, but hopefully they will sort it all out prior to handover. Painters will be finished soon hopefully. So are you locals as well? There are two more two storey recent Masterton builds up the road on Wonga Rd heading downhill from Kiora, a Villina and a one that might be a Fernleigh. Cathy I know what you mean by land it scarce in the shire, basically you have to buy a run down fibro hut and knock it down for it's land Building: Masterton Villina Savoy in the Sutherland Shire http://nathanandvivienbuildahome.blogspot.com/ Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2018Mar 28, 2011 11:36 am Hi All Just wondering if anyone has built or it building a Granny Flat with Masterton Homes. We are looking at building the Villina and trying to decide whether to go for the Villina 41 and move the movie room next to study to make a bigger study in the house. Or go with Villina 36 and have a Granny Flat outside as my office as I will be working from home and will probably have clients coming to my house so was thinking an office separate from the house maybe better. We are building a house in Newcastle. We are tossing up between two builders with similar designs. Masterton plan is not quite as good as the other builder but the Mansion packahe is very tempting. Sales staff for Masterton have been fantastic. Can anyone confirm what the supervisor side of things are like with Masterton in Newcastle? I have been on the forum for a while now and I don't recall that many (or anyone) building in Newcastle. But I could be wrong. A word search for Newcastle and Masterton might show something? On the Mansion Package - I agree it is excellent. We were looking at Masterton for around 2 years but are about to change (as we are building a Custom). But in looking around, I would certainly say the Mansion Package is a stand out and Masterton build times seem pretty good too. Good luck.
