Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 202Apr 20, 2016 9:55 pm Thanks CS it's exciting but if you are anything like me are you slightly freaking out about flooring contractors and all the other post handover stuff? My mind runs 100kms an hour thinking about HOW to schedule everything it really is a mammoth job, I'm excited for action but scared about when it's ready how soon we can move in!! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 203Apr 20, 2016 9:57 pm Haha, now that we're only 2/3 months away at most it is daunting. I'm more stressed about money than scheduling contractors. As soon as the flooring and the ducted is in, we're in! Lol it's all the retaining we have to do and the paving. Oh the paving! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 204Apr 20, 2016 10:06 pm Oh dear, I hear ya sister, we are having a bucket load of concrete, and the retaining, our poor bank account, we were told by fairmont we would have minimal retaining but have now been quoted in the ball park of 10k , I'm glad the sensible side of me didn't go ahead and get stone in the kitchens and bathrooms as we need that cash for retaining now! We can't move in according to blakes crossing until driveway is done and concreter says we can't concrete until retaining is done....so many anomalies! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 205Apr 20, 2016 10:36 pm A friend of ours lives in blakes and has said to us that there are so many rules and regs it's not funny. Her side fence has to be a certain distance back from the front corner of her house and all sorts apparently. We're using Bazza's fencing for our retaining on one side. But my sister used Austral Landscaping for hers and she said he was quite competitive price wise. He did such a great job too. Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 206Apr 26, 2016 8:51 pm So today the sparky was there wiring us for sound, the brickies look like they have done some more work and the insulation guy was there too, gyprocking starts tomorrow, can't wait to see it, so relieved that our telecommunications guy did his work last week so will be there to finish tomorrow with the gyprocking crew.. I guess lockup is not far off now! Good to get an idea on where to stick the NBN hub. We were torn between inside the butlers pantry and garage, but seeing as you went with garage I think we will do the same. Your place is really coming along! Can't wait to see the gyprock up. I know what you mean about the kids. Mine would be the same. It would be full on melt down without a Peter Rabbit or Wiggles episode after bath time. viewtopic.php?t=82566 Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 210Apr 27, 2016 8:13 am heatherkam Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ for those playing at home wondering where the nbn hub goes we went according to the instruction book from opticom and put in the garage, will show the conduit coming through as well, this is one of the nervous parts was making sure all has gone in to make sure we have TV and Internet, the twins and our daughter couldn't survive one day without a TV amongst other things lol Hi, at our FBI we were told we couldn't put it in the garage and that we had to put it in the walk in robe, I will see if the people doing our NBN will allow us to move it, I was annoyed we didn't have a choice Build Start June 2016 Fairmont Homes Page 3 of our Topic shows most of our selections. Lol. I didn't realise the price for the nbn was expensive. Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 212Apr 27, 2016 9:06 am We have paid $750 for it Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 213Apr 27, 2016 9:43 am You dont have to have rhe network hub and the nbn modem together. You can simply run a single cat6 from the hub to the modem as your internet speed will never exceed the bandwidth of a cat6 cable. Then the hub can be somewhere you want it (study, robe, under stairs etc).
The nbn box will still consist of the modem, fibre switch and UPS (you'll need power for these). A single conduit can carry both the LAN and telephone (if you still want that). Using my LG-G4 to bring you this update. Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 214Apr 27, 2016 9:44 am Marshall5858 We have paid $750 for it Oh wow! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 215Apr 27, 2016 9:54 am Marshall5858 We have paid $750 for it What are all these people paying for? We just got the modem from Telstra and our builder to put a data and phone point in the linen press. The data is terminated into the linen. Done! What are these 'hubs'? Is ours different because we have fibre to the node so it's installed outside? Your provider will still come and install your NBN at no charge once the wiring is there... Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 216Apr 27, 2016 10:18 am I wish I knew, we were told we had to have it and it was added to the invoice. This sort of stuff goes over my head I'm afraid Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 217Apr 27, 2016 12:54 pm Leksie5000 Marshall5858 We have paid $750 for it What are all these people paying for? Correct me if I am wrong but yes, FTTN uses the old copper wire system into your house, which Telstra will take care of. If you have FTTH (fibre to the home) then it uses a different line which the builder (Or NBNCo at builders cost) will typically need to trench and conduit from the street supply to the house. The HUB's some of us are talking about are used for structured cabling to distribute a LAN throughout the house. It could also just be the housing for the NBN termination device, uninterruptible power supply, and modem, which is required for FTTH. Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 218Apr 27, 2016 1:05 pm FTTH NBN is FASTER bigger future-proof. Everyone was going to get it eventually with previous government to make australia competitive in the 21 century. But it was a massive job to roll out (absolutely worth it IMHO) and opposition (current) government politicised it, came to power and turned it to ? (inferior FTTN 1920s copper wire technology). I had no problem paying $750 to get it 'on' from the street to my house ? Just incredibly grateful we had the fibre laid in our street before the plug was pulled and not have to patch copper from some point kilometres away Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 219Apr 27, 2016 9:22 pm So from my instructions of sa electronics and opticom is that fairmont only bring fibre from the street to house only. From outside the house to inside the house is our responsibility. So we have paid to have this done and brought fibre to the garage point which will be in the hub. Once sa electronics have wired our TV points to the hub Along with data points through the house, we get opticom to come out " at our own cost" to install a device to then activate or whatever the term is that gets the fibre converted to pass the signal. Once that is done we can get which ever internet provider to supply modem and all other things for our internet to work. I don't know all the terminology but I hope it all works! I hear it's great speeds and very reliable so will be nice to see. Yeah that's what I thought, I still thought though your supplier will arrange FTTH at no additional cost to you. And you could arrange your own housing fairly simply but I guess it's easier to get the builder to do it. I just feel there's some profiteering going on here.. Well these guys are not looking good...
