Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 201Jul 24, 2011 1:22 am 3 weeks feels like forever in building time haha Looking great! How exciting with the bricks being finished!! Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 202Jul 24, 2011 9:29 pm The bricks look great Theresa. Isnt it great walking through and feeling the house around you, not looking through the frame - really gives you a feel of the size of the house. Hopefully they zoom ahead now. Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 203Jul 25, 2011 12:03 pm Thanks everyone for all your compliments. It's so good to finally be at a point in my build where I don't have to worry about the weather so much!! ![]() We got a building inspection done on Friday. Just for our peace of mind. It came back all good so very relieved about that ![]() Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 204Jul 25, 2011 1:04 pm Looking awesome Theresa!! It will go quick from here - the bricking seems to take the longest!! YAY!!! Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 205Jul 25, 2011 8:51 pm Thanks tashmarch ![]() Well, I’ve officially had the most frustrating day of my build so far ![]() I have not been able to speak directly with the electrician as he was out all afternoon ![]() Adding to my annoyance is the electrical box for the intercom/alarm in the wrong position in the WIR. It was supposed to be up near the ceiling but as the electrician didn’t install a double powerpoint there, the cabling guy has used a single powerpoint we’d placed about 1m off the ground and positioned the box there. We’d put the single powerpoint there because we thought it would be good to charge our mobiles in the WIR but I can’t be bothered paying extra $$$s to move the box now or add another powerpoint!! We’ll have to hide the box with our clothes or something. Arrrrggh! You’d think when you build a house, you’d get it exactly as you want it but it’s just not possible with the lack of personal service! Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 206Jul 25, 2011 9:22 pm Theresa so sorry to hear about your frustrating day ![]() Such a major mistake couldve been avoided with a simply call from electrician to follow up quote approval or even easier by making it very clear on quote exactly what was required for works to go ahead. Hope it doesnt delay you too much or cost you too many $$$$$ Katrina Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 207Jul 25, 2011 9:33 pm OMG Theresa - you are having a crap day. Can i ask what your SS is doing about all of this? I havent had anthing to do with the office since the site prep began, all of my concerns, complaints etc i go direct to the SS who sorts it out for me. He has my plan and all details on him at all times. When i made changes to my electrics we noted them on the plans then and there, i signed to accept the changes then he arranged for them to be sent to the electrician - he does all the liasing with the tradies - i only get involved if i want to explain something specifically. Then i just turn up every other day to check on things and say hi to them all and take donuts, chocolates or lollies ![]() ![]() Who did you meet with at the electricians? Was anything written down? Did you get a copy of what was changed? Did you actually get a quote to sign? Maybe speak to one of the bosses at the electricians I would perhaps ask for the box to be located where you asked for it, particularly if you are going to be annoyed with it, and then pay the extra for the powerpoint. I cant believe no one called you at any point to say um i know you wanted this, but this hasnt been done..... to bring it to your attention earlier rather than later ![]() You should put everything through your ss - have them at the meeting with the electrician - get them involved and taking responsibility for your build, that is why you are paying the big bucks after all. If you wanted to manage it yourself you wouldnt be using them. If need be take it higher - to your ss' boss. This is all costing you time and money. I really hope you can sort this out Theresa. With this additional stuff I requested they just sent the quote page, which details what I requested and the cost – no instructions telling me to return it signed – so I just assumed it was for my records. Just can’t assume anything when building! Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - BRICKS DONE 209Jul 26, 2011 10:14 am ![]() OMG Theresa - you are having a crap day. Hi Drayto, the SS isn’t doing anything about this as he and Fairmont aren’t involved. We approached the electrician that Fairmont uses directly. We want LED downlights. Fairmont charges an excessive amount for halogen downlights so I’d hate to think how much they charge for LED downlights. They’re probably not even an option. So we tried to arrange them through Fairmont’s electrician directly to save money and have them installed during the build. Unfortunately, this electrician has way too much work through builders and really doesn’t care about customer service with single clients like me. He doesn’t use email so there’s no record of requests. There’s just the paperwork I’ve left with him such as the layout of the downlights and some notes he’s scribbled on our floor plan. He appears to have no recollection of our past conversations. The only record I got regarding the changes I made was the quote he posted to me which I didn’t realise was a quote that I had to send back. I thought it was for my records of what was changed. Just spoke to the electrician on the phone this morning. He can’t meet this morning. He did reassure me that it would be them putting the holes in the gyprock for the electrical and not the gyrockers themselves ( ![]() Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - Joys of building 210Jul 26, 2011 10:29 am Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. What amazes me is that it's your house and yet nobody seams to consider the owner. To the contractors it is just a job, you would like to think that if they saw something that has been done incorrectly they would say something to the SS. It just seams to be about getting one job done and moving on to the next. I would push to get these things that have been done incorrectly fixed. It's your house and your money. If it's not what you paid for somebody has to fix it. ![]() Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - Joys of building 211Jul 26, 2011 8:13 pm Hey Theresa, did you have better luck this afternoon? Will be nice when our homes are complete and we don't have to worry about these things. ![]() Hey Theresa, did you have better luck this afternoon? Yes, I caught up with the electrician. We went over the quote and I accepted it. They said they’ll do the work tomorrow. It’ll cost about $350 extra as they’ve charged an extra callout fee and additional labour costs. I’m glad it’s sorted and happy that it’s not costing too much extra. I’m getting completely the opposite service from the kitchen people. They called me today as they’d drawn up my kitchen and ended up with an 18.5cm gap on each side of the rangehood (we’d asked for 20cm). They just wanted to confirm if that’s OK with me. Of course, but thanks for checking! ![]() ![]() Re: Building the Monaco - Fairmont Homes - Joys of building 213Jul 26, 2011 9:51 pm Theresa that is great news for you. ![]() I am really glad you have sorted this out - building is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, not a heartache. Also good news with the kitchen - not so hard to check now is it - saves everyone so much heartache. We've opted to have no mirrors done by the builder so we can get them done exactly as we like them after handover - to the ceiling. That sounds like a mistake by your builder. I hope they don't put up a fight and just change them for you.
