I can't wait to see it painted =) Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 202May 20, 2010 10:39 am Drove past the house this morning on the school run and saw that half the street is blocked off while the tradies put in the gas connection And, saw someone out the back hosing the bricks....bit nervous as I've seen so many horror stories on H1 about the Austral Urban bricks losing their coating after pressure cleaning And now back to sneezing and sniffling, thanks kids Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 203May 20, 2010 1:32 pm Looks great Oh isnt it great its definitely going around had it for two weeks and I think its getting worse not better Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 204May 20, 2010 6:22 pm OK, so the bricks got cleaned today and they look really lovely, but.....the sandy finish on the bricks seems to have been washed off (mostly). In the pic below, the brick on the left has none of its "sandy surface texture" left, versus the brick on the right which still has it. The colour still looks true. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We seem to have escaped the issues that some of the Nougat owners had with their brick cleaning where the nougat glaze completely wore off, but I don't know whether the bricks are meant to look like the left one or the right one ? Hmmmm..... Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 205May 25, 2010 3:08 pm Well, the benchtops are in. But the house is locked. But I could see through the window. And.... The island bench slab is the wrong size It stops at the top of the shadowline rather than extending 10mm further to the edge of the waterfall ends. Sheesh ! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (Apologies for bad photo through dirty windows...) So, awaiting call back from SS On the bright side, at least its the island so if it takes a while to replace it shouldn't hold up tiling etc. Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 206May 25, 2010 3:17 pm oh evelyng, how disappointing. But your right, it shouldn't hold anything up but what a waste. It was probably the kitchen makers that stuffed up. Hope it's rectified soon. Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 208May 25, 2010 3:26 pm Thanks ladies, it is a real waste, its a big piece though so hopefully they can use it for other jobs. I'd be willing to take it off their hands though, I'm sure I would find a use for it in future joinery projects around the house..... Or even buying it from Dechellis at a reduced price of course! Hmmm, I could make some money here..... Spoke to SS today about it, he is going to have a look over the next couple of days. I think they're pretty busy at the moment, as they're a couple of SS's down. I have a new conspiracy theory though - the plans specified 900 mm wide, and the plastic wrap that was on the stone also says 900. Now either someone can't use a tape measure, or perhaps the joinery people made the slab ends too long ???? If only I could get into the house to check for myself. Anyway, I'm sure it will all be sorted out soon. Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 212May 30, 2010 6:01 pm Hi evelyng - sorry to hear about your benchtop. I hope you get this resolved asap. I hope you get this resolved asap. Thanks for that - i plan on calling SS first thing tomorrow to follow up as I didn't hear back from him on Friday Just read on your thread about your new handover date - how fantastic for you! Wonder whether we're going to be sooner as well ? I hope so, I've quickly tired of paying a full mortgage and rent I think I've hit the worn out stage of the build - so many quotes for landscaping, sheds, pergolas, floors, etc etc to sift through. I have tradies ringing me to arrange times for quotes and I can't even remember who they are or what they do ! Getting a bit down about it all, and seeing little progress on the house doesn't help. OK, "woe is me" time is over now Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 214May 30, 2010 8:08 pm I am guessing that they dont have as many houses on the go as usual as Ros at Dechellis made a comment when we first started that things were quieting down as they had a lot of handovers in Feb/March. You started 2 weeks before us and have progressed a lot further so I would assume your house may be ready earlier too...fingers crossed!! Ask your SS on Monday. I totally understand where you are coming from. I am overwhelmed with all the things we need to arrange and we only have 2 months to go now. We need to get our stormwater, fencing, carpet & heating & cooling arranged as soon as we have handover. The stormwater and fencing are the most important. We have a dog so we need the fencing up!!! We can live in the house without the other comforts if we have to. It beats paying rent while we wait. Building definetly has its ups and downs...but I am hoping that it will all be worth it when we have a lovely home to be proud of Keep smiling Building the Sorrento (modified) with Dechellis Status: Paving in progress Site works commenced: 22/2/10 Pre Handover: 14/9/10 Handover: 23/9/10 My thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=31665 Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 215May 30, 2010 8:18 pm Sorrento I am guessing that they dont have as many houses on the go as usual as Ros at Dechellis made a comment when we first started that things were quieting down as they had a lot of handovers in Feb/March. The first trick I will perform is getting SS on the phone Oh, carpet, I forgot that More quotes..... Not sure what air con you're going for but we highly recommend Glenelg Air. We're getting a Daikin ducted R/C. They really know what they're talking about. We are still picking ourselves up off the floor after our latest landscaping quote. Only double what we budgeted for.... And you're right, we're both going to have absolutely fantastic homes Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 216Jun 03, 2010 5:45 pm Well, we had some action today We now have eaves and the remainder of the portico ! So hopefully that will turn up on another day when I am able to get to the house before knock off time I was also informed by my SS that tiling is to start next Thursday ! Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 217Jun 04, 2010 5:21 pm Well after the excitement of eaves yesterday, I arrived at the house (for yet another pergola quote ) to find 3 somewhat unhappy brickies chipping away at my portico Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Seems that they didn't make the front section quite big enough and it doesn't match the blueboarded part that was done yesterday. So they've had to knock out all the bricks, and when I left they were attempting to remove the giant steel beam that is embedded in the brickwork. They didn't have any bricks and were debating how to procure some so I just thought best leave them to it cos they didn't look all that happy to be doing such a task at 4 on a Friday afternoon ! Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 218Jun 06, 2010 5:57 pm I think I had the same tradie at my house on Saturday working on the eaves - fits your description Did he have a black late model ute/van and a young apprentice? Exciting news about your tiling!!!! Annoying about the brick work on the portico but I am sure this is easily fixed! Yes, only 4 more sleeps until the tiling starts The portico is almost fixed. they need a few more bricks at the back of the beam and then it can be rendered again. We spent the day looking at blinds. Ugh. I would love plantation shutters but the price Even for the DIY ones Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 220Jun 08, 2010 1:14 pm Well I happened to be driving past when a tradie was at the house so I was able to get inside for the first time in weeks Some happy snaps (from the mobile phone so apologies for pic quality) of my lovely benchtops - All Essastone New Sable Luxe... Leaning towards having them run up the wall behind one end of the spa in the ensuite. Then you will see them when you walk in the ensuite. In the main bathroom, thinking of putting them up the wall behind the towel holders which is straight ahead when you walk in the bathroom door, or even at the end of the bath like the ensuite. Alternatively I could take them out of the bathroom all together and have the entire splashback behind the powder vanity done with the mosaics. Decisions, decisions...
