Re: Evaporative Cooling / Gas heating vs Refrigerated coolin 22Sep 18, 2020 7:42 pm So that's both heating and cooling on electric?? How's that going? Is efficiency same as gas heating? I have heard gas heating is better than electric heating. How does it affect the bill compared to gas. Any idea? Re: Evaporative Cooling / Gas heating vs Refrigerated coolin 23Sep 18, 2020 8:38 pm We just started with it. But its more comfirtable for us. Not enough data to talk on the bills. But once you have solar, it will be economical to run AC during day time I believe. We have double glazing, so hoping not to have a lots of heating / cooling Re: Evaporative Cooling / Gas heating vs Refrigerated coolin 25Sep 21, 2020 9:33 am RC56 Is efficiency same as gas heating? I have heard gas heating is better than electric heating. I understand if you haven't had much experience with different mechanical heating/cooling systems it can be difficult to get your head around, but I thought my comment just prior to this question were fairly easy to understand? So we can all conclude this thread and move on, lets break it down by listing the most efficient (#1) to least efficient:
Actually there is one other option that I think will become more readily available and used in Australia (once our building industry start to construct more air-tight houses) and that is a Heated Recovery Ventilation system with add-on reverse cycle split system. These are currently priced in Oz ~$10-12k, and arguably not worth it in a house with poor air sealing. Anyhow the thing that reverse cycle inverter units have going for them is the efficiency in terms of converting 1 unit of electricity into 3-4 units of heating/cooling energy. The gas burners are 1:1. On top of this any system that is ducted through unconditioned roof spaces is always going to be losing significant amounts of energy. So that is why individual 'non-ducted' split systems are the most efficient, then the same unit in larger form and ducted next and gas bringing up the rear. I hope this makes it clearer for you. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check our Homeone build blog here Re: Evaporative Cooling / Gas heating vs Refrigerated coolin 26Sep 21, 2020 9:37 am RC56 Hmm yeah. Solar does helps. Yes Solar does help (our ~13kw system does wonders for our power bill...actually we get paid!). But whacking a big solar system on your roof shouldn't be a way to cover up things like poor construction methods and poor choices in heating/cooling design. What happens in the near future when we are all trying to use our solar power to do things like charge home and car batteries? If we make our homes as efficient as possible and design our mechnical heating/cooling systems well then the solar systems can be adequately sized to cover all our power needs now and into the future.... --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check our Homeone build blog here Re: Evaporative Cooling / Gas heating vs Refrigerated coolin 27Nov 10, 2020 2:59 pm Shi Got $7K credit from builder for gas+ evap and spent another $7K to have the ducted reverse cycle refrigerated cooling with possibility of online scheduling and automated control.
