Okay so I hate to sound like a mega stalker, but...
I think I may know you from another forum... I do believe we may have spent some time together in March getting drunk on free champagne in the First Class lounge in SYD and then on to CHC for more drinking?
If so, yay to have stumbled upon your building thread

Don't get too excited, the build wont be starting till the end of the year (the sooner the better).

My land took 8 months to title and I thought I had plenty of time, but there was still a bit of rushing in the end before construction could start. Actually, my plans got rejected by council the day we flew to NZ, and took me 3 weeks to fix up when we got home

Right now it's just huge massive cheques being sent off left right and centre, and loads of purchases for the house that I "desperately need and cannot live without" which are draining my savings accounts :lol:

so feel free to hold off on this part of your build as long as possible haha

We do colour selections at the end of this month, then electrical first week of August, Contract at end of September. Land is due November so I'm being very hopefu; and optimistic we will be ready to go asap. They've alreay run the design via the developer (and picked up and fixed a major issue) so that's all looking good. Just council stuff I guess before they can start. I'm gussing given the current rate of development that they know what the council wants and it should be pretty smooth (or is that just wishful thinking?). The whole money/loan thing terrifies me but I cannot wait for us to be in our own home.Savelour sele

Colour selections are just over a week away and I'm getting twitchy. I still have no idea what colour we want to go for bathroom cabinets and benchtops. Or for the outside of the house (with the exception of the bricks) :shock:

We're hoping to change the back door to a stacker but not sure how that works when its just a single door/window combo and not a corner as per some houses. No preference for wood versus aluminium at this point. All other doors/frames are aluminium.

Keen to see if we can do a weatherboard-style cladding on the upstairs but it will come down to cost. I really like the look of it.

Decided to get the kitchen bench depth increased too, as the 20cm overhang isnt enough for one to sit comfortably on a stool and have somewhere to put your knees.

I want to keep everything very neutral and classic, so that it doesnt date too quickly. White cabinets in the kitchen with one of the base ceasarstone options.
Bathrooms/laundry will have grey floor tiles so not sure if we go white cabinet and coloured benchtop, or a soft timber-look cabinet. Hoping our selections person will be able to guide us a little.

My advice is to create mood boards, then you will figure what you like and don't like once you see everything together.

Neutrals is a very safe choice and easily able to change the look with furnishings and decor accents so you won't be disappointed is you go neutral

I really like the example pic - classic and gorgeous

I found looking at Instagram, display home pictures, pin interest, houzz to be helpful too. I have also gone around the suppliers my builder uses getting samples of tiles, benchtops, bricks, floorboards, paint charts, I even went and visited the place that does concrete.

I've looked at so many displays it has all become a bit of a blur. We're pretty set on our tile and carpet choice, its literally just the wet area benches and cabinets, though I really do like that image I posted. Just have to see what the other half thinks.
I've got brick samples, paint cards etc too and a few ideas of what paint colour I'd like.

Your colours sound a lot like what I picked.

I always knew I wanted a white kitchen, white cabinetry and white countertop (I picked the one with the shimmer... couldn't resist!). Although I did admit to my aunt on the weekend, that I kind of wished I'd picked a colour for the bottom cabinets to break it up a little, but I think once the furniture/appliances go in, it will look softer then it does right now.

I decided to go with the soft wood look in the bathroom, so I could use the same benchtops throughout.. but I also like the white cabinet with coloured benchtop idea. I love Clamshell colour in Ceasarstone range.

Definitely mood boards!! I also love doing the Porter Davis World of Style quiz and then browse through the pics to get a feel for what I like. If possible try to visit your show room before the meeting, that helped me a lot. I had my tiles, benchtop and kitchen cabinets and bricks picked out before my meeting.

All in all, just make sure you pick things you like

Another colour selection idea that I heard, and that worked really well for me. When visiting the 10 billion display homes we all visit in preparation, I took about 900 billion photos. I downloaded them all to my computer and threw them all in folders - outside facade, garden, alfresco, dining, master bed, bathrooms, etc etc etc

Then I just went through the albums and scribbled all over the pictures in picture editing software - things like circling a pendant light if that was the only thing in the room I loved, or cupboard door handles, or whatever.

When it came time to sit down on colours day, when we were doing outside colours, all I had to do was open that folder on my ipad and all my inspiration pics came up, and voila, it was easy to see that I mostly liked white roof and dark pillars. Kitchen time it was clear I wanted two-tone cupboards, a light wood look, and white benches. Etc.

Sounds like you're pretty on the ball with everything, but maybe going through your collection of inspo pics might help you narrow down what you're more naturally drawn to?

Good luck, it's the most exciting part, picking everything! Oh, that and slab day. Oh, and the day you go over and walk through your framed up house and you see the spaces come to life. Oh, and the day they do plasterboard. Oh, and the day you see your bricks up..... LMAO it's all fun, but colour picking day was amazing!

I've taken photos of lots of things that have caught my eye, so definitely on that one. Problem is deciding between multiple options that I like! :lol:

There's a display of a Glendale that I love the exterior colours for (its where I found the bricks I like) so at least I can tell them to match that.

Heard a whisper yesterday that all remaining stages were running late but assured this morning that our stage is still expected on time. Hopefully thats the truth as I'm desperate for this to all get started. (plus I want to start buying furniture but I have nowhere to store it :shock:

)
