Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 21Jun 15, 2015 1:59 pm Blargh... Got our variation back today. $15,000 more than the sales person estimated. We had included an extra allowance of $7000 for site costs + soil removal, so all up it will be $8000 more + soil removal ![]() Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 24Jun 15, 2015 5:33 pm I'm upset, but there is just nothing we can do about it. We can try and cut back our spending at selections, but that is it. I went back and looked at my Sekisui paperwork and it turns out the cost is pretty much identical. So even if we wanted to try and change builders at this point (which we don't) I think we need to accept that this is just how much our site costs will be! I think what I am most upset about is that I was worried that his estimate wouldn't be enough, but he assured me he was being generous with the allowance. I even showed him the soil report from Sekisui! So the estimate should have been quite accurate. In other news I left a message with my sales consultant last Wednesday and have not received a call back. He was also forwarded an email I sent a few weeks ago about this issue and has not responded to that either... Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 25Jun 15, 2015 9:13 pm Just found your thread Bobbin. Sounds like a similar story to us, the costs blowing out even though they had a soil report from another builder. Surely they know this is going to happen. You might have been lucky with the original 10k discount though, we didn't get anything like that! Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 26Jun 15, 2015 9:41 pm Onwards and upwards, by hook or by crook, you are getting there and it will all be worth it ![]() Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 27Jun 16, 2015 11:38 am Oh no ![]() Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 28Jun 16, 2015 11:43 am It takes our mortgage over the mental 'tipping point' I had in my head, but we can still afford it. It won't make much difference to repayments etc I just wanted to stay under this for the mortgage! Thinking about ways to cut costs a little bit, but I also don't want to make decisions I will regret for years for the sake of a few thousand now! I have said this so many times, but I am SOOO over building! I don't have any fight left in me. I just want it done. My sales consultant hasn't been getting back to me about a few things and I feel like just letting them go instead of fighting it. The Fairmont process really is a production line and they don't deal well with other circumstances or assisting outside of that production line! It is really hard to discuss things and advocate for yourself when the sales consultant just won't respond, and everyone else refers to the sales consultant! Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 29Jun 16, 2015 11:52 am Oh I hear you! I'm so over it too. It better damn well be worth it ![]() I agree with the extra thousands here for the sake of no regrets later. Unfortunately that's what pushed our 'mental tipping point' up by $30k :/ But in saying that I'm glad we did as I'm glad we got the extra things put in we wanted. Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 30Jun 16, 2015 2:13 pm Oh my God!! Frustration overload! So the issue I have been trying to talk to my sales guy about over the last few weeks is that we need an updated arborist report before the plans go into council, but we need the final plans showing positioning of the house, engineering and he site survey before we can get the arborist report. I had asked that the council application not be lodged until we had received the arborist report, but had no response from the sales guy, no call, anything. Got home today to find a letter from Fairmonts confirming that the plans had been lodged with council. We only received the plan we needed yesterday. ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 31Jun 16, 2015 2:15 pm Oh no! Do you think the arborist report will change the plans? The good news though is that they can start on the DA assessment in Council while you get the arborist report sorted. So might even save some time? :/ Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 32Jun 16, 2015 2:17 pm We are infringing on the tree protection zone more than we were with the sekisui plan. I think they will probably need it. I just can't believe that a) they ignored my request and attempts to talk to them about it and b) that they didn't pick up on the issue themselves!! The significant tree is clear on the site survey, surely as experienced builders they should have turned their minds to it! I am going to email my sales guy plus a manager later about my concerns. Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 34Jun 17, 2015 11:26 am I sent a long email to the sales guy and the sales manager last night outlining the issues we have been having. No response yet but they would have only received it this morning. We did the electrical plan last night and my estimate is that will cost us $2,500 over what was provided for. We added in a LOT of lights and DPPs. Also signed the final plans and will post them back at lunch time. I am waiting to sign the variation until I receive a reply to my email. Crossing everything for smooth sailing although we all know issues will arise I just hope they will be small. We had issues today with the tree we are trying to keep in the back garden....apparently it has grown directly over the top of the sewage point and they want the tree removed! We want that tree (its not a gum), have planned a garden area around it and have just spent money on trimming it so it is staying....cant understand why they wouldnt want to install a new point since the tree has probably over the last 40 years damaged the one that is currently there!! PLumber quoted $8000 NOT happening! I think anyone that builds is born tough....keep smiling ![]() Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 37Jun 27, 2015 8:45 am Have you had a response from fairmont yet bobbin? Hope they sort this tree issue out for you. Just read about the subway tiles you are after and when we went to direct a week ago to look around they had three different coloured subway tiles you could upgrade to and I think from memory it was an extra 150 approx to have those tiles In the backsplash, they came in black white and grey. ![]() Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 38Jul 10, 2015 12:34 am I totally replied to your post just after you posted it heatherkam! The internet must have ate it! Thankyou for the info re subway tiles. We had our selections and chose a 100x300mm plain white 'subway' tile. There was a cost of $200 to upgrade to brickbond laying, but otherwise it is a standard tile choice. We did get a reply from Fairmont but it was more of an "I'll look into it for you." We got that on 25th June but haven't heard anything more since. I noticed on the council website that they sent a request for further information to Fairmont on Monday so I called the council direct to find out what it was... surprise surprise they want an updated arborist report! Re: Fairmont Homes Custom Adelaide KDR 39Jul 10, 2015 9:29 pm To be fair to my salesperson I thought I would update that I received a few phone calls and an email from him today. He is still working on getting a reduction in cost for the footings but it could take some time. He said he would be in a better position to negotiate with the construction manager once we received the council approval - as by that stage they would have spent about $5000 on various fees and costs in the pre-lim stages and we only paid $2,200 deposit, so they would want to be locking down the build. I've now contacted the arborist and provided the info they need so hopefully we will get that back soon and council approval won't be too far away. I have been having a really hard time at work lately, and I really really want to get the home loan application done as quickly as possible just in case! Unfortunately we won't know the final price until the builder's interview, and Fairmont won't schedule the building interview until we have planning consent. yes it does, you've just not understood it. theres a difference. 4 6210 Your house should come in "as new" condition.
