Slab pour musn't be very far away. I think they have finally finished with the site works of the Coral near us, I think they hit a little bit of rock, not to mention I think the earthmoving truck must have knocked light pole up that way sideways a week or two ago. Oops. Great progress. Wonder what the weather forecast is for the rest of the week? Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba *Slab boxed! 23Oct 23, 2012 3:52 pm Slab pour is supposed to be tomorrow according to the SS! Hope so I can't believe how long it took them to finish the other Coral site! We drove past there over the weekend and they were STILL at it haha. Glad for the owners that they have finally finished though lol I saw that knocked over pole too, made me laugh lol Rest of the week is supposed to be fine - I'm happy with that Carpenters are due to start Monday Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba *Slab boxed! 24Oct 23, 2012 4:03 pm Woohoo! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba *Slab boxed! 25Oct 23, 2012 4:06 pm Thought I'd list the upgrades we opted for - if not for my own reference, as I don't think we have a master list of everything like that lol - 9 foot ceilings (with doors etc. adjusted to suit) - Increased length of garage, and height of garage door - Increased length of bedrooms 3 and 4, and adjusted length of wadrobes to suit. - Added a 1500mm deep dropped ceiling bulkhead to above kitchen - Added undermount sink in kitchen - Upgraded laminex finish to kitchens, laundry and bathrooms - Upgraded brick, and mortar colour of off-white. - Timber stacker doors to outdoor area - Integrated slab and stained timber decking to outdoor area - Solar hot water system - 22,500L water tank instead of the standard 9000L - Upgraded facade - Upgraded to platinum carpet range, and gold underlay. This was mainly because the colour of the carpet that we wanted only came in the platinum range - always the way! - 40mm edge ceaserstone to kitchen, with waterfalls ends on the island bench - Colorbond roof - Frameless shower screens and mirrors - Translucent privacy glass on the front door That should be about it... close enough anyway Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba *Slab boxed! 26Oct 24, 2012 7:14 pm We have a slab!! http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb431/reindeer831/IMG_0941.jpg We also met one of the carpenters- he lives in the house across the road Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **We have a SLAB!!* 27Oct 24, 2012 7:46 pm CONSLABULATIONS! Can I ask why your slab has a lower section around the outside?? I've not seen one like that before Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **We have a SLAB!!* 31Oct 25, 2012 4:08 pm Thanks soakedblonde As far as I understand (and I don't understand a lot of this stuff ) it's to do with our foundations. We have E class soil - the worst you can get. I've just read our contract and they have provided a 300mm high slab, with a 600mm deep footing system - I believe the lower part is actually part of the footings. Something like that anyway... Anyway, the bricks will start at the top section of the slab, and the lower section will eventually be covered with dirt/whatever they do lol Hope that made some sort of sense Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **We have a SLAB!!* 32Oct 25, 2012 4:14 pm Thanks for explaining it to me, and yes it makes sense Wow 300mm is huge! We had to have a 100mm slab which I think is still higher than normal (most builders in WA do 85mm slabs). Did you need piers because you have clay? Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **We have a SLAB!!* 36Oct 25, 2012 4:49 pm yep, that's the plan Hey Tash I've been meaning to ask you - what was your soil type, since we kinda in the same area, and we were on the subject and all Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **We have a SLAB!!* 37Oct 25, 2012 5:01 pm Hi reindeer, that's a good question! When we first bought the block we did a soil test they drilled two holes and it came back an E, when we went with M they wouldn't accept this test as they didn't have in house engineers or something and then when they did theirs it came back H and they drilled three holes. Bit confusing but hubby spoke to them and is happy. There were apparently some blocks with a M rating in our area. We asked around about building on such bad soil and found out literally everyone has it here in Toowoomba. Westbrook is worse, letters beyond E Our last house was a H too and we had some very minor settling cracks, nothing major. Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **We have a SLAB!!* 38Oct 30, 2012 12:36 pm Well that's certainly interesting about your soil tests :S Yesterday the plumbers came back - plumbed in the sewage, downpipes around the house etc. We also have our big drainage pit in the backyard too Because of our soil, they're doing all they can to draw moisture away from the house - so down the back of the yard is a pit a few meters deep, where water from various drains around the yard will eventually end up. They also pushed up soil against the slab, so it doesn't look as high now Oh, and we have our temporary drive way. I drove to the block today hoping to seem some frame action - the frames had arrived, but not a tradie in sight! Oh well, tomorrow maybe We were quite suprised that the frames didn't arrive pre-fabricated - apparently this is quite common these days? Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **We have a SLAB!!* 39Nov 04, 2012 9:41 am Well the frame was started on Friday!! After the plumbers finished on Monday, we were down there every day waiting for the carpenters, but there was no action! Almost wasn't gonna bother heading over on Friday - but glad I did They were there till dusk too! These pictures were taken on Saturday so I could get a better light. Geez the rooms look so small! But I know it's just the way things appear at the moment... hope so anyway Should be an exciting week ahead! http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb431/reindeer831/IMG_0989.jpg http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb431/reindeer831/IMG_0984-1.jpg Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba **Frame started!!** 40Nov 04, 2012 7:58 pm How exciting!
