Browse Forums Building A New House Re: And so it begins - C0rals Hamilton 252 on the Gold Coast 21Jun 13, 2009 9:41 am lwbjl I'm gonna jump in with my 2c on diamondgloss too - we already have this in our kitchen & for me there are only minor points that bug me; watermarks - drip a bit of water on it & the mark left when it has dried is visible. splashes from the sink I guess are the biggest culprits - but having said that if quick spray & wipe with a tea towel dry off & it is as shiny as new. We had our put in August last year ( before I talked my partner into moving & building) & it is still as good as new. Despite my little problem with splashes, we will more than likely go with the diamondgloss again - probably even the same color as we have now! Also thinking about putting floor cupboards in laundry so there is some bench space. I figure the storage we are creating from a bit of the wir will make up for any we may lose(will put in overheads tehre too one day) but it will be good to have benchspace in the laundry. Also picking up extra benchspace in kitchen by closing off far end - will be putting dishwasher & sink as close to wall end as possible to leave huge part of breakfast bar open for serving etc. Weekend vistis to the display at Thornlands are brilliant - every time we walk thru we get more ideas - sad they cost money to do sometimes Re: C0rals Hamilton 252 on the Gold Coast - pics & plans 14/6 26Jun 14, 2009 10:13 pm That looks like a really nice spot, where abouts on the GC is your land? Our last house was a Coral, it was a Kepel design and we were very pleased with it. When do you expect to have a start date? I was going to go with the dimond gloss for the kitchen bench... would you recomend it ... any pros or cons Oh yes, for sure! I love it - it's just a little more labour intensive than normal laminex, as OMG has said with the water splashes. Can you imagine dealing with that every day in the bathroom Pro's is that it looks great and costs THOUSANDS less than stone. Con's - it just needs a bit of a buff after your usual spray and wipe to keep it streak free. It's just has hardy as any other laminex. Great looking block OMG - nice view over to the hill. Re: C0rals Hamilton 252 on the Gold Coast - pics & plans 14/6 32Jun 14, 2009 11:21 pm that looks great i love coral homes and would build a large heron or yours in a second but they dont build in my town Re: C0rals Hamilton 252 on the Gold Coast - pics & plans 14/6 33Jun 21, 2009 9:59 pm hey OMG - just thought i'd better give you the heads up that my most recent finishes book (dated 29/05/09) has different standard bricks... here they are... The revised plans look great also, love what you've done with the back bedrooms and the bathroom extension. Oh well, too late for me to change that now Have you had your soil tests/contour plans done yet ? Re: C0rals Hamilton 252 on the Gold Coast - pics & plans 14/6 35Jun 22, 2009 9:08 pm -Rebekah- Your block looks fantastic OMG, great spot. Oh well, too late for me to change that now Have you had your soil tests/contour plans done yet ? Thanks Rebekah Unfortunately no soil tests yet - seems I made a slight miscalculation on settlement funds for the block so we have a huge dent in our savings - much less than I had anticipated! We are looking at keeping our current house while we build so are waiting for the bank to do their thing & at the same time are just getting a bit of savings happening again before we order the soil tests. I know it is 'only' $1700 odd but I want to make sure we have spare $ for the unexpected in day to day living. The wait is killing me but I guess it is better to wait now than do the tests & be ready to go & have a hold up. At least this way the bank will be ready to go for the build before we get anything underway. We did go to a color room a few days ago - it was brilliant. We picked our bricks & tiles & surrounds pretty easily....that is until we left & saw a house with the same bricks then I decided I didnt like them oops. Off to the brick place at Oxley next I think so we can see a whole wall of bricks! Also went looking at tiles & carpet on the weekend as we are thinking of having this done after handover now. We have slate tiles at the moment & they suit our lifestyle (lots of water & vodka splashed about) & our timber furniture so we are leaning toeards slate tiles again. Nice to see they are priced pretty comparably these days too. Carpet is another story - we have cream carpet, 2 cats & a dog who are all inside pets. While they are all house trained, the dog is fluffy & there tends to be a bit of fur hanging around on the carpet so we are looking at something where the fur wont be obvious so the choosing of carpet is going to be an interesting task I think. Will be going to pool & spa expo in Bris on weekend so figured to come home via Oxley. Will hunt up one of the other sites & see if we can get to one of them too - the one with the different mortar color sounds interesting. Cheers Re: C0rals Hamilton 252 on the Gold Coast - pics & plans 14/6 38Jun 22, 2009 10:24 pm yep, a lot of people have mentioned that the mortar colour and type can really affect how the bricks look 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: C0rals Hamilton 252 on the Gold Coast - pics & plans 14/6 39Jun 23, 2009 7:02 am Good things come to those who wait OMG, that coming from the most impatient person ever I know how you feel, we had wait much longer than anticipated for our land to register and it was driving me insane. Although it did give us a chance to change a million things with the house which was a good and bad thing. Pool & Spa expo hey, might have to check that out. MMmmmm vodka It's only 7am and I could do with one of those right now, that'll happen when you have two boys under the age of 3 C0rals Hamilton 252 on Gold Coast - ensuite/wir question pls 40Jun 24, 2009 7:17 pm Ok so now I am going to steal one of Rebekahs ideas - maybe....... Not sure the best way to set out the ensuite & would like a double vanity. We are also looking at having a cavity slider into the wir & into the ensuite - we dont want 4 sliding doors & definitely not 4 mirrored sliders! Along with taking a bit of the wir for the hallway cupboards, I am wondering if we could get away with stealing a bit of the wir and adding to the ensuite and going with something like this.............. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I guess my question is really - how big/small can a wir be & still remain useful? Cheers Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
