What is the neutral grey colour you have on your wall??? It looks great Thanks Davelle - Wall colour is Crystal Gazing (Taubmans). I really love it, it's not too grey but enough to see the contrast against the cornice and skirtings. Can't wait to give the place a good clean, only problem with doing the floors post handover, but it doesn't look too bad. Tomorrow will be the killer after all teh grout so hoping the tiler is really careful and doesn't get too much on the skirtings.. Once the carpet goes on Wednesday we can move everything in to position. If there is one thing that I think that I wouldn't pull out next time, it might be the flooring, but then I just know it would have been exorbident (spelling??? ) to do what we have done. We have spent about $5k (internal only) over the rebate Kurmond gave us back from our tender for pulling internal/externals out, and I just know that we would have been up for heaps more than that based on the fact we have 600mm format tiles through out plus the foyer border etc and our carpet was quite a high range with the best underlay, so part of me is very happy we did our own thing to get what we could, BUT the cleaning part of me after today was yelling to the hilt at me asking what on earth are we doing Oh the grout dust... in the end I just mopped it all, and then again and again... I was first advised to use towels to push up the dust and then vacuum, I did this but after about 1 hour on my kneesand only 3 rows of tiles, I gave up. We also don't have hot water yet (solars coming to install Wed) so trying to fill the kettle also didn't help. Anyway all the dust is gone now at least, but need to go back tomorrow and do another couple of rounds so have decieded to take the day of work so everything is sparkly before the carpert on wed. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way of getting rid of the white smeary grout coating????????? I was using water and metho today. Others have also said Water and vinegar, which I might do tomorrow as the metho really smells - not on the tiles but the bucket..... not so good! Although they are not looking too bad considering at least there's no dust. Tomorrow will be bits I missed or areas that need a good buff and polish and genrally, just another clean. Went to bunnnings and stocked up on all my industrial cleaning quipment = super dooper oates bucket on wheels, mop heads, microfibre cloths, hand mit, Microfibre dry mop etc etc...... Anyway, I'll post some picss once the carpet is in on Wednesday. have a nice week everyone Blog: http://cbcbuild.blogspot.com.au/ Building Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62155 Re: Lilac's Build-Custom W/Kurmond Homes - tiles finished 188Mar 18, 2013 7:57 am Re: Lilac's Build-Custom W/Kurmond Homes - tiles finished 189Mar 18, 2013 8:10 am Quote: Does anyone have any ideas on the best way of getting rid of the white smeary grout coating????????? When we had our white 600 x 600 tiles laid in our last house we also had the smeary coating on them from the grout. We cleaned them over and over again and each time the smearing gets less and less. One thing i found works really well - it is Davco tile and grout cleaner. This is great on the tiles and brings your grout back to white - when you mop dry the floor with old towels and this will wipe up a lot of the grout. Another thing that works well is a steam mop. Dries the tiles straight away and doesnt leave streaks. Ask the person that laid your tiles. The person that laid mine wanted to do a light acid clean. This gets rid of any grout. We didnt get them to do it as it would have meant waiting over the weekend to come back and we wanted to get out furniture in. Your tiler should be able to tell you what mix to make up to give it a good clean. Tiles look AMAZING !! Well done I don't envy you with the cleaning though .. sounds like a nightmare - had no idea how much was involved with cleaning tiles. I'd been wondering how they were going to get all the grout and crap off ours as well... Good luck with the rest of the cleaning today, and getting your carpet tomorrow. Don't worry the pain will soon fade (hopefully !!) but you'll be able to enjoy your beautiful tiles for many years to come. Cant wait to see more pics tomorrow Re: Lilac's Build-Custom W/Kurmond Homes - tiles finished 191Mar 19, 2013 8:27 pm Thanks everyone for your comments and I love the border in the foyer too - my favourite feature in the house. Thanks Carak...... I don't look like that (yet ) But that's how I'm feeling.... Oooh I was tired at work today! Thanks Jen, I think the grout is gone and now the smearing is to do with the wax left on the tile...... Our tiler said there is a cleaner we can get which DH went out to get but still no luck. I mentioned to him on the phone about getting a polisher, and bless him, tonight I got home and he had gone out hired it and it did nothing... he then spoke to the tiler and he said you have to get rid of the wax first and then polish..... a bit of information he could have done with before getting the polisher.... oh dear.. Anyway, lots happening tomorrow, carpet being laid, hot water being installed, Kitchen man coming to try and fix the rear cabinet in the island....... Oh I don't think I mentioned this one - the stone mason mitred too much off the end of one of the waterfall edges, so now the stone is crooked (measures 995 not 10000mm like the rest of the stone) and the cupboard sticks out further than the waterfall edge down one side as you look side on. To the eye you wouldn't really pick it up but the cupboard isn't aligned now so makes it really obvious. If he can't get the cupboard to align, the stone mason will have to replace the stone... Yes this will be attempt No.3 people Anyway, I am ok in leaving the stone as long as the cupboard is even, but if it can't be aligned then off it comes... Friday we have appliances being installed and my lovely hall and lounge lights and Friday night will be our first night in the house... So excited! Will post new photo's tomorrow night once carpet is down. Had the TV's arrive today, can't mount the tv on the wall in the bedroom as the noggin is in the way and cords can't be fed through the back of the wall. We have the TV recess and everything - no go! Main one can but then, couldn't have any testing or be shown how to use it because we discovered that the arial wasn't connected up properly so the guys coudn't isnall it properly - no tv channels! To make it worse Sentinel can't come out until Wednesday to finish off what should have been done in the first place. THEN the kitchen. Oven couldn't get installed properly as when you opened the door it hit the top of the pot draw, then the combi oven/microwave wouldn't fit at all (a false panel at the back has meant a loss of depth and needs to be removed), then the coffee machine, has been installed but needs a poly panel to fill the 5cm gap betwen it and the cupboard. Yay for the rangehood and cookop - these were fine. Then had the stone mason out - still no decision on fixing the rear cupboard, is it the stone, no it's the cupboard.... It's not the cupboard, it's the stone just fix it, because until someone does we have no sink and no dishwasher - just in case the whole top has to be replaced. On a positive note - carpet - awesome, tiles - much better, feature lights in lounge and entry - wonderful! I will take some photo's tomorrow for you to see. We have an old 50's house with masonite everywhere and nails popping out, warping, rusted etc.… 0 4792 I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature.
