Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Build @wellard with Dreamstart homes--update 161Aug 19, 2015 1:33 pm We are also planing to plant trees and garden in backyard. Poly soakwells not installed very deep. Does it mean less/limited depth for tree roots and graden above poly soakwells? Re: Build @wellard with Dreamstart homes--update 162Aug 19, 2015 1:56 pm My understanding is that they aren't as deep as concrete but they allows the tree roots to grow "through" it if that makes sense. BTW, we told the soakwell guys to intall the soakwell away from the area where we want to plant the tree but in the end they went for the big area for some reasons. So hoping they can do it on such short notice. Did they give you a 'plan' of where they put things? If not, how would you know where not to dig?? Hope you're well! Re: Build @wellard with Dreamstart homes--update 164Aug 21, 2015 10:49 am MalSannie: yes, i have been following your thread. Your builder is super fast! Slab down in May? I don't think they normally tell you where they put the pipes etc. They just go ahead and do their job. We know because we talked to them in person. The guy just hand drawn the pipe and soakwell location to us on our floorplan. Our lot has limited access, that's why it is rather crucial to know what shouldn't be done before the pipe and soakwell go in. Ours supposed to finish on Wed but got hold off by the rain. They told me that they will finish on Thurs. I hope they did because I really want something done and off my to do list. You can always ask them later down the track where they put the pipes etc. Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Re: Build @wellard with Dreamstart homes--update 165Aug 21, 2015 1:22 pm Are you doing any cabinet in BIR and WIR? The builder is offering just a self a rail. We are looking for a cabinet maker for WIR/BIR Cabinet and kitchen Overheads. Re: Build @wellard with Dreamstart homes--update 166Aug 21, 2015 1:32 pm Yes, only a shelf and a rail for each bedroom. That's standard for almost all builders. We keep them for small bedrooms and took it out of the contract for main bedroom wardrobe. Because it is such a small WIR, we probably will just build from IKEA range. As for the kitchen overhead cupboard, have the builder gets the quote for you. In the end, it isn't much more than having to DIY so we are doing it through them. The only thing we need is a refrigerator box with a cabinet on top. We didn't know the size of the new fridge in advance so decided to do it after handover. There are a lot more we can do for the kitchen. It is good to make comparison. I'm not sure how much they charge for installation at far SOR. Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Re: Build @wellard with Dreamstart homes--update 170Aug 22, 2015 6:55 pm Thanks Sofia, I've asked the people we'll use to also draw us a plan afterwards to show where the pipes go Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--ceiling painted 171Aug 23, 2015 12:47 am CLO update this week: bathroom tiling + measuring the shower screen (interesting, thought they would have known the size of the shower screen after the prestart?!?). What we saw: Minor progress for the tiling. Only the inner wet area has been tiled as well as the floor in the laundry. No idea what happens to the benchtop. It hasn't been installed either. However, our ceiling and cornice have been painted. Soakwell and stormwater piping are done. Hopefully, we will have a grano for the garage soon! Do they normally install the benchtop at the same time with the sink? Sinks aren't delivered just yet, perhaps this is the reason. Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--ceiling painted, bli 172Aug 23, 2015 5:30 pm Another question to you all. We would like to do double roller blind or single roller blind. Any recommendation? I don't think our windows are standard so the blinds need to be custom made. We have gotten a quote from ABC blind but would like to compare prices. Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--ceiling painted, bli 173Aug 23, 2015 11:49 pm Hi sofia butterbing on the forum recommended accent blinds in Joondalup. I bookmarked it as someone I wanted to get quotes off - if I still have any money left by the time window coverings are needed! Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--ceiling painted, bli 174Aug 25, 2015 11:31 am Thanks malsannie. I will ask about it. We r far SOR, though. Not sure if they will deliver. Remember our funny standalone gate? Well, the fencing company called and told us that we have to pay for the rest. They will only do the side and back with colorbond. I totally get it if they don't do front fencing as part of the package for people with a non-elevated block. All the elevated blocks with a gate like this have the rest of the front fencing as a finish product. I'll have to contact PEET about this. Either they do it or we will just leave it like this. We don't have extra $ for it. Lesson learned, though. Never buy any block with a retaining wall. They cost so much more with engineering fees which you don't see at the sale stage. I'll name it the "lonely gate". Why supply a gate and not finish it off! And yes retaining walls are expensive, our house is about 3m above the block below us and has a big retaining wall which we had to pay $1500 to have it checked out, pretty sure all they did was stand back and say yep....that's a wall.... Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--ceiling painted, bli 176Aug 25, 2015 3:43 pm Archetto: Exactly. Every other elevated block in the same stage has it all fenced up. Sure, they have a narrow front and cost less $. I am tempted to get a saw and taking it down. It will be so much easier for moving furnitures into the house without it. I'll talk to PEET and see what they come up with. Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--ceiling painted, bli 177Aug 26, 2015 1:15 pm Our soakwells are concrete and they are about 200mm from the top of the ground!!! (well the lid) We thought they should be further than this...?? Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--ceiling painted, bli 178Aug 27, 2015 4:18 am Haha sofia, love the 'lonely gate' you should charge people a fee to come and see your art installation Might pay for the fence! Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--tiling 179Aug 27, 2015 11:11 am Good idea MalSannie. I should just put up a sign for it! Hahaha....We didn't budget this one in and since the retaining wall is so low, it doesn't seem to be crucial. I might even take it down if allow because it makes moving the furniture into the house easier. Tiler obviously didn't do much last week. This is what we saw few days ago. We have given a reason and it is being scheduled to finish this week. Work being scheduled this week has been pushed out for another week. I am hoping there is something else getting done as well this week. I was hoping grano but we are experiencing a problem with DS, which needs to be resolved first. Long story....was planning to post it on the thread earlier on but no reason to point out the drama when it was resolved. Hopefully, it ends well with this time.
