Re: Porter Davis homes 14823May 03, 2017 5:25 pm Naama Naama nikil Naama, How much asbestos did they find? This has been a worry for me as the house was left demolished on our block for years before we eventually cleared it when we bought the block. I was worried bit of asbestos may have broken away and scattered around. I got an email back from BC today, she just said " I am currently waiting on further information regarding the soil test and resubmission, I will get back to you as soon as possible." So I am still none the wiser to a timeline. No idea yet how much, as soon as they found it they had to stop working and clear the site until professionals arrive to see how much. I'll know more hopefully soon... Also, searching through the forum on asbestos removal prices, it is a few ks but not too much depends on the amount you have... I was very scared at first, had no idea if it's around 5k or 50ks so more like 5k and lower from what I've been reading... I hope they don't find any in ours. Last thing I need is more unexpected costs! Re: Porter Davis homes 14824May 03, 2017 6:15 pm Hurrow We're sorting out our application for developer approval at the moment, as part of that we have to say what letterbox we are going to have, what type of driveway, and a landscaping plan with at least 20 plants and one tree apparently. Who on earth gives much thought in advance as to what kind of letterbox they are going to have? We had a drive around the estate last night to look at what other people have done with their landscaping, I didn't see too many people with 20 plants and very few with a tree! Why would I want to plant a tree in front of my house? Argh!!! We had quite strict estate guidelines to adhere to. This included specifying the exact letterbox, and designing our entire garden front and back which required 3 X advanced (3m) native trees in the front, 5 X advanced (3m) native trees in the back and 20 native plants. Very hard to decide a year out from even being in the house. I think it'd be a lot easier to decide what to do with the landscaping when we can actually see what the house and yard looks like, I guess the developer wants to be able to say that you have agreed to doing something decent with your front yard at least so it has to be done in advance. Happily enough we don't have any requirements for our backyard beyond the material and height of the fence. And from what I've seen of a lot of other people's front yards they aren't even enforcing the requirements there! Building a Kew 28 with Porter Davis Re: Porter Davis homes 14830May 04, 2017 12:32 pm Naama I feel like such a winger but PD found asbestos on our site when they started excavations yesterday.... On the plus side- they started excavations lolz nikil, don't worry, once you get your permit from council PD should move you to site start right away! it took us a week to get the permit and a couple more to the site start. this stage was rather quick but had I not been to my site on the weekend I'd have no idea about the actual start date... my BC said any day next week and trying to reach my Slab supervisor is not a simple task so don't worry too much about the lack of communication at this stage.. they are actually working on your build, they're just not telling you about it. Ouch! i really hope this doesn't delay you too long or cost too much. We had the same issue with us when we knocked down, but luckily the demo company found it and not PD. We had friends go through the same thing with Henley finding it, they held them up over a month and charged them through the nose to remove it. Its expensive anyway! I think they found a good enough reason to delay, so delay they did. i think Nikil was actually referring to the first council approval, not permit. Permits usually really quick after the approval itself has come through. Re: Porter Davis homes 14831May 04, 2017 12:49 pm I cant recall if i posted a photo of our driveway or finished facade with blinds or not, excuse the mess!! its looking a little nicer now. We are due to start our front fence fairly soon, as i must admit im excited to see it all come to life with our white picket fence and roses along the fence line. We have just signed up to have security doors installed in the coming week and have opted for a period type casting on our front door. ( white of course) Really hoping we can create the period look without being too much of a hit n miss ( or mess) ha! Our exposed driveway also turned our really well. Just for anyone wondering what happens post build to an existing crossover or driveway that has been damaged during the build. Well luckily for us even our council considered a minor chip 'damage' so due to their lack of care ripping up the ground to do our LPOD connection, we are getting $4K towards redoing the entire front path and cross over to our driveway. YAY! We are using our own concreter not PD"s and its being completed this week along with an extension to the crossover that we got approval for. Our fireplace is on order and we have two installers coming out this week to suss out the process of installation. Some are saying they need to remove plasters, others are saying they can get around it. Fingers crossed all that money spent on the firebox works in our favor and is straight forward. Cannot wait to see it fully installed and cozy up the formal lounge! Its all coming along and thought i'd share some material to get some of you thru. I know the wait and pain can really at time take its toll. It sounds like there is still a fair bit going on with your house even after PD have finished with it, I guess we will be doing the same as we will be getting someone other than PD to do the blinds, driveway etc. You'll be glad when it's all done no doubt! Something to do with the concrete. we shopped around quite a bit, from memory it was about 9500 to do driveway and our side path that runs the entire way. i couldnt tell you the price per sm sorry. Just being "in" is enough to take away the stress and worry of whats happening there and when. We are defiantly enjoying it. Blinds, furniture and driveway were all done within three days of handover, so the last few weeks have certainly been a little more relaxing and slowly potting around working out what else will need to be done. Knockdowns are i suppose alot more involved, 2 of our 4 fences are completed so far.
