Browse Forums Building A New House Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 141Nov 19, 2012 12:18 am Hi all, I've been watching this thread for a while and figured now that our slab is down (yay!) I should contribute We are on Heaton Road, building The Wellstead elegance with blueprint homes. They have been brilliant so far. I've met a few of the neighbors already, none with kids though! I have 3 kids - 5, 2 and 15 months, hence the busybusy user name! This is the second house we've built, we outgrew the old house in ashby and absolutely love the swan valley so Whiteman Edge is perfect for us. Looking forward to chatting with you all. Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 142Nov 19, 2012 2:16 am hello i have a feeling i just met my neighbour pretty sure we are right next to you hahaha if you are the only blueprint slab in the street then we have already checked it out hehe...VERY similar to what our slab will look like too, i think we just have our kitchen swapped with a living area compared to yours? great minds think alike I've got a build thread if you want to satisfy curiosity nicnvina are also building on our street but no slab either just yet! Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 143Nov 19, 2012 8:35 am Hi Kat, great to "meet" you! Would you be able to post a link to your build thread? I'm still trying to work out this forum, I did search but only 5 threads came up and I couldn't see your build one That's awesome that yours is similar to ours, we love it. It's such a big, open spaced home, we can't wait to move in. We are renting in caversham at the moment. Our house should be finished in April, we are really looking forward to not paying rent AND a mortgage! When will your slab go down and who are you building with? We've met the people directly behind us (homebuyers centre, slab just went down) and the man at the bush end of Heaton Rd (Ventura home). it's great to see lots of people always out and about. Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 144Nov 19, 2012 10:42 am viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60163&view that's us we are building with redink but also going on a 7 week holiday from mid Jan...worst timing ever! we have been too busy to get organised for prestart so won't be doing that til 7th Jan....then holiday...then come back to paperwork! our hopes of a February slab are gone and now thinking maybe April? we head out to the block nearly every week but haven't bumped into anyone yet. I remember looking at the wellstead plan..gorgeous!!! massive kitchen! Our friends are building with blueprint and have loved the journey so far as well Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 145Nov 19, 2012 11:56 am It is a huge kitchen! I love cooking and with the 3 kids and DH, I spend most of the day in there lol. The kitchen we're having is exactly as per the display but I've changed the microwave stack o another pantry and instead of dark grain cupboards I have Alaskan horizontal grain with stipple seal pantry as Zucchero freestyle tops so it will be much lighter than the display and easier to keep clean. I don't like the streaks on dark laminates, had it at our old place and it drove me crazy!! Kids fingerprints everywhere arggh. We are at the block most days, I usually drive through on my way home from school drop off or shopping. It's great living just around the corner. Off to read your build thread! So jealous you're having a holiday too, I'd love to just be able to have lunch on my own haha Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 148Nov 19, 2012 8:06 pm My build forum is viewtopic.php?f=31&t=57896&start=300 but I am at the brickwork stage. Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 149Nov 19, 2012 8:12 pm Oh how exciting, we shouldn't be too far behind you then, may even move in at the same time. Are you on the same street at us? Kat are you on my left or right? For some reason I'm thinking it's the right of us if you're standing on our slab looking at the street. Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 151Nov 19, 2012 8:33 pm good guess i think its just our blocks on the same level in our retaining wall section! you might see us there in a week or two drawing our plans in the sand hahaha might leave a hello drawn in there too Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 152Nov 19, 2012 8:39 pm Yes our brickie will finish 18th December and it'd be great to get the roof on before Christmas but not holiding out for that. DH is a brickie so he's doing the random limestone wall at the front over Christmas, gotta keep him working haha I'll have a look for a message in the sand and the outline of a nice house! Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 153Nov 19, 2012 8:44 pm yeah ours is due to finish 6th december, but they are abit worried about leaving materials out over the xmas break period, so not sure how far we will get. Lucky your husband is brickie, I am gonna give it a crack also, but I have never done one before so not sure what to expect lol Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 154Nov 19, 2012 8:50 pm Good for you! I think it's really nice to have a hand in some part of the construction of the house, if you can. DH didn't do any brickwork on the last house but he built a wall out the front to create an enclosed courtyard and it was so lovely to sit there and think "wow, he made this". He was a brickie for 12 years and has since got an office job because of his body falling apart from years on the tools so he loves to get his hands dirty. Hope you guys do get a roof on before Christmas, it's always good to have that peace of mind. Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 155Nov 19, 2012 9:02 pm yeah we're hoping for a roof aswell, just gotta wait and see now I guess. Yeah I am still on the tools can be very hard on the body, I'm constantly thinking of ideas to get into a office job while maintaining similar income. Well at least with Blue Print you get your 22 week guarentee, However I wonder if there is a cause over the xmas break period, that, that time period doesn't count? Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 156Nov 19, 2012 9:08 pm Yes they are very good with the 22 weeks, that's one of the reasons we signed with them. We've got the 3 kids in a tiny little rental so the sooner we are out of here the better! It's driving me craaaazy! The house was built in 1972 and is in the middle of a vineyard so it's a beautiful location but oh gosh, nothing has been fixed since 1972 I think! We're the first renters in here so we're finding out all the " quirks " the old man who lived here just put up with, very interesting times lol You could always be a building supervisor Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 157Nov 19, 2012 9:14 pm yeah my house in girrawheen is from that era, I have just ripped out the whole kitchen and in the process of rennovating it. before we either sell it or rent it out undecided at the moment, and all these years i have put up with a horrible kitchen lol. Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 158Nov 19, 2012 9:25 pm Oh I hear you! This kitchen has the 70's orange laminate benchtops and flower patterned tiles throughout haha. Lots of demand for rentals in Girrawheen, it's a great location, so central to everywhere. If we could have afforded to keep our place in ashby and rent it out we would have done that for sure. Always good to have that property there for te future, I really regret not buying my own house before we got married and had kids, it would be great to have that little gem up our sleeves! Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 159Nov 19, 2012 9:32 pm My house is a duplex at the carport, Was so tempted in bulldozing my side, and sepertating the land and just building a new home on there if it was just a house I prob would of definently done it. Had the house for 10 years never been burgled no problems in my area. I love the area because it's so central to everywhere really. Re: First timers building in Whiteman Edge 160Nov 19, 2012 9:57 pm Our friends have just knocked down their house in Padbury and are building another house on the block with Scott Park. They signed their contracts a month before us and have only just gone to pre start. They bulldozed the house last Friday, 12 years gone like that! Hello everyone, After some suggestions and ideas about how to put a concrete path around the drop edge beam area on our new build. We are required to have a concrete path… 0 13355 get them to replace the chipped tiles. It will stick out like a sore thumb overwise. Also tiler will be siliconing the miters rather than grouting.
