We've also had the gutters put on yesterday...and that's about all that has been done this week. SS, R and I met up onsite and SS walked us through and explained how they'll do things like the "roughin's" (can't quite say it like SS with his kiwi accent ) and what the next stages will be like roof tiles and the wrapping! Yay!!!!!! Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 122May 20, 2011 10:03 am Hey guys, PD has told allowed 280 days (9 months) for the construction of my double storey house (45 sq), which includes xmas. Do you think they will finish it sooner? How long to they usually take? Your opinions will be greatly appreciated. Just got of the phone to my OH and he has said that our SS called an hour ago to say that the roof tiles are all put on! YAY! Our baby has a hat! Wow is all i can say to the tradies! Roof tiles delivered late Tuesday arvo. (I drove by the house just as the truck was leaving) And given the weather Melbourne has had the last couple of days (think rain, rain and more rain) I would've thought the roof tilers wouldn't be able to work. Is 1 and a half days the norm??? **insert happy dance here** Building Waldorf 44 with PD Feel free to follow our build progress - http://melnrobsknockdownrebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 125May 26, 2011 2:59 pm MelNRob Umm Excitement! Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 126May 27, 2011 3:39 pm Places Homes teams up to create dream design portfolio Just wanted to share some Porter Davis news with you, we will be undertaking a brand consolidation of Places Homes. The consolidation means that Places properties will be transferred into Porter Davis Homes group, so we will have even more stunning designs under the PD brand. For those of you who aren’t aware of Places Homes, it was founded in 2008 during which time many first and new home buyers discovered an affordable opportunity to build a brand new home with a stunning range of bespoke Places designs. The consolidation of brands will not affect Places’ existing obligations, as all current customer and supplier contracts will be honoured and construction will continue as planned. Also the entirety of the Places staff will be transitioning into Porter Davis Homes group. The rebranding program is due to commence on 1 June and all current Places and Porter Davis display homes will remain open, with Places Homes being rebranded by 1 July 2011. Current or existing Places Homes clients can call their local Porter Davis Lifestyle office for any further information. East – 9709 1200. North – 8467 1200. West – 9363 9555. I'm exhausted. We are nearing the date where we finally realise our "dream"... although the dream state has been a little less desirable out of sheer exhaustion, anxious anticipation and the need to synchronize dates and trades like a military tattoo. We are receiving assurances that we will have handover by the 10th of June and although things have been chugging along impressively the past couple of weeks, the thought that it will all fall into a crying heaps is looming just around the corner. NawKaw have finally been out (as promised) and have colour matched our mortar. Although I am still not impressed by the overall finish of the brickwork (cosmetically), I must say you would be hard pressed to spot where they have performed their work. Our bricklayers have left a sour taste, however I am grateful that it is structurally sound. There are so many bits and bobs to finish off now. There have been delays with the shower screens, mirrors and wardrobe shelving due to a supplier change to Stegbar. I'm not displeased by the change, but just hope that all will be in in the next 12 days. Carpet is almost finished - just the stairs and the dining room to go. The dining room, according to our SS, who you would think would have read the plans, was to be done in floorboards he told the carpet layer. the carpetlayer thought this was odd considering it would be the only room with timber... smart carpetlayer. I had to ring our CSC to ask her to remind him that we infact requested carpet instead of the standard tiles in the dining room.... sheesh. My concern is that the carpet will not match the ajoining living area.... if not, they will be ripping it all up and replacing the whole two rooms. Holes in walls and ceiling abound, where careless tradies have whacked and bashed our poor walls and have knocked holes in looking for wiring. All yet to be patched and repainted. A bit of plumbing yet to go where the plumbers were dyslexic. sigh... 12 days... shall I allow myself to believe it? I am telling you now, if they pull it off I will be singing their praises to all and sundry! Re: Update on our Waldorf 131May 29, 2011 11:06 pm snoofie Sigh... I'm exhausted. I'm lucky if we get fortnightly out of him!!!!! Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 135May 30, 2011 9:51 am mimi23 We're jumping the 'Waldorf' ship, so I won't be allowed to post in this thread anymore. Still staying with PD but have decided on a different home. Hey Mimi23, Which house are you building? Also, you are always more than welcomed to post you build on this thread. We all love seeing someone’s dream house coming to life. Please keep us updated. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 136May 30, 2011 10:12 am mimi23 Daily might be a bit of an ask! Snoofie, hang in there! I'm sure they will get your beautiful home finished for you on time. haha I agree Mimi! Considering it has been like pulling teeth to get fortnightly out of him I think it may be far too late to expect miracles!! haha I think our bricklayer may have a reading impediment! The front balcony has a drainage slot which on the plans is on the left hand side of the balcony - it would be on the "away" side looking from the front of the house and not obvious. He has managed to put it on the opposite side in full view from the street and is huge.... grrrr Does anyone have a pic of the drainage slot on their front balcony? Check to see were then ground falls on the balcony. If the drainage slot is on the opposite side then you may experience a water build up on rainy days. Without see the plans it’s hard to comment. They might put a channel on the edge so the water and follows out (check my plans but couldn’t find any details. Should be fine if that’s the case. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 140May 30, 2011 10:58 am Yeah, on our plans it clearly shows the drainage slot to be located on the left hand side of the balcony (when looking at front of house). One would assume that the fall of the balcony floor has been sloped that way in order to ensure the water drains to that side. Unless the floor has been sloped in the opposite direction in error, then the brickie has stuffed up and put the whopping great hole in our lovely render on the incorrect side. Even if he has put it on that side due to the fall being swapped, the point is that the drain should not be on the leading side of the home. One also thinks, ok, if they have to swap it then they have to re-brick it, re-render it and hope that the render colour matches... sigh....if only it were that easy!! It's the small things that are getting up my goat now - am ever so slightly over it and ready to bite the heads off small hairy tradesmen/supervisors! Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 13963 Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed.
