We have Sentinel doing the installation of cabling for 5 speaker surround system in the home theater room. The placement of such, we have left it up to them to position - three at the front and two at the back of the room. We haven't given this much thought yet, but i am just wondering where everyone is getting their speakers from? What are your recommendations, i am taking notes We also considered speakers in the Alfresco but didn't include this. How hard is it to install speakers in Alfresco after handover? We thought with so many really good Bluetooth and wireless gadgets out there in the market, we are sure to find outdoor speakers down the track. Its the cabling from Alfresco to HT on a double storey house that will be difficult as it would have to run through the space between floors. Almost impossible I'd say. My go to hi fi store is Eastwood Hifi (they are in Dural now), so drop in and demo some speakers. Pretty good prices and friendly bunch of guys. My HT is running Paradigm speakers and sub (5.1) but probably best to drop into the store and have a listen yourself with all the different range of speakers they have. How good something sounds is kind of different with every person. Best to do the speaker cables for the alfresco during the build if its a double but even with a single it's a bit tight in those areas. You could do that if you don't want to mess around with cutting gyprock and patching it up, but then you have to pay twice for the speaker install. At $200 inc GST per pair of speaker points it isn't cheap. Wisdom really should be providing a proper home theatre consultation service to its customers if they want to control the build process so tightly. Is Wisdoms eletrician using their OFC cables? or are you able to supply? Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 11307Jun 27, 2018 5:24 pm Those who have had soundscreen insulation installed, is it very effective? If you tap on our HT wall you can hear it on the guest bedroom side and it’s supposed to be soundproofed. Wondering if they haven’t put it in or if I’m expecting too much? Is there a way to tell, like a stud finder type device? Is there a way to tell, like a stud finder type device? The soundscreen is pretty effective. Our laundry backs onto the home theatre, and yes we can hear if the washing machine is on, but its not a huge sound (which is good given that its right on the wall). We also have it between floors, and it takes the edge off there as well. Maybe they missed a bit or the insulation has fallen a bit. If you have a powerpoint or other switch, can you take it off and look to see if the grey insulation can be seen in wall cavity? We feel that the upstairs noise really filters down through the stair void though...maybe because other areas are pretty quiet. Yeah we had Sentinel run our cabling, and unless you can run it during construction (on a dbl storey build), it would not be an easy job to do post insulation and gyprock install. We ran speaker cable to alfresco from HT, as yamaha amp does a zone B output, so there was no chance we were going to do this post. Have had no issues with their HT work, we have had them out a few times regarding the alarm and CCTV cameras though (which have been rectified). What did they charge for the Soundscreen and did you specifically request it between the floors? It wasn't cheap, and differs based on house design/floor space, but for me it was a worthwhile investment, and one that had to be done during construction. Yes we did have to request it. Home Theatre was $800 and between floors was $5k. We still hear creaking of footsteps quite regularly and have had to have a few floor creaks fixed upstairs with them ripping up the carpets and correcting joins in subfloor. Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 11314Jun 27, 2018 9:06 pm What's the consensus on having data points terminating in garage as per standard, versus moving to elsewhere in house eg ground floor linen. Would mean modem is out of garage and given is sensitive electrical equipment, makes sense to me. I don't understand why WH Connect all to garage. Where have you all moved yours? Variation Fee will apply if you have signed off on your final electrical plans. If not they hopefully they are able to move it for you free of charge.[/quote] Thank you. Just reading up on it online and it seems the NTD is mainly in the garage. What is the pros and cons having it in garage as opposed to inside the house? Does having it in garage interfere with anything?
