The biggest the piece of stone can be is 3.0m so there will have to be a join in it. Maybe work out where you want the join, most people say that it is good to have it where the sink is as that is the smallest join. At least if you nominate where the join will be you can tell your SS Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1043Sep 28, 2012 7:48 am ![]() Oh and another exciting thing, SS mentioned to hubby the other day that if everything runs to plan with no problems there is a small chance he could have us in by Xmas!! Crazy!!! Although I'm not banking on it lol I was planning for Feb/March Ooh, that'd be a nice prezzy! ![]() Although ... it'd be tempting, given everything that goes-on around that time of year, to not actually move-in until afterwards. But maybe go camping in the new house on the evening of the 24th ... ![]() Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1044Sep 28, 2012 7:52 am Jen, we asked during our colour selections about the join and we wanted to ensure that we had no join on our island cause it was less than 3 meters. Julie couldn't guarantee that would be the case and it was up to the kitchen people? I'm assuming if they have 2 off cuts that equal 3m then they could stick them together? I'd hope not though... Our other kitchen bench is more than 3 meters and wanted to specify that the join be directly down the middle which would cut through the cooktop. Again, we were told we couldn't decide... Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1045Sep 28, 2012 8:30 am Sixor as we have cut down to 3m there is no way that I will be accepting a join. If it has a join it will be coming off. Rawson says that the upgrade package the 20mm stone was worth $6000 and we have been charged an extra $2700 (ended up getting it complimentary) to upgrade to 40mm I think we will be using quite a bit of stone. We have 2 x 1200mm waterfall ends. 1x 650mm waterfall and a 3m x 1200mm bench Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1046Sep 28, 2012 9:19 am we also upgraded to 40mm and got waterfall ends but our cost was $3470! there's R again with their random pricing... wish we had queried this cost or better yet, wish we had it complimentary also! I'm with you Jen, we definitely do not want a join on our island bench that is less than 3m. I guess we'll just mention it the our SS at the time. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1048Sep 28, 2012 10:25 am Ours was $2700 for the benches, $1900 for two waterfalls, $950 for the third and $890 to reduce the bench from 3.3m to 3.0m but to change it from 810mm wide to 1200mm - so total stone vary $6140 - ouch Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1049Sep 28, 2012 10:41 am Guys I really don;t think they will install it with a join if it its under 3 metres. We went through 2 pieces of stone. First time incorrect overmount sink was installed, and the next was correct with the undermount sink. These were both new pieces, our bench is 2.9 so under the 3m mark but they could have easily cut it in half and only replaced half but it was a whole full piece. Really be very surprised if they joined a piece they didn't have to as it is more work for them as well. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1050Sep 28, 2012 11:45 am I didn't expect there to be a join and thought it a little weird that they would say they couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be even if the bench was smaller than a slab. I think it is important that they do tell you there is a join after 3.0m do, but after reading many kitchen comments people aren't told. I can't remember how long our bench is but I don't think a join would be a huge bother to me (Esp with it been black any way lol) Jen our contract was 40 weeks from the construction start. SS said march at the latest which is 30weeks. Xmas would be nice but I'm not banking on it. Building houses is one of those things that rarely goes to plan.. Not overly good at the specialist he said he would have operated straight away but now it has shown signs that its starting to heal.. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1052Sep 29, 2012 12:42 pm Tarsha will you still need surgery or are they leaving it to heal now? I'm not fussed on a join. We have joins in our granite in our last house and it was fine. My husband spoke to our SS yesterday there are a few things the SS has picked up that he isn't happy with, our bulkhead at the entry is too low over the stairs and he has to duck going up (we are both short and didn't notice) and our front door doesn't fit so a few modifications required there. No real dramas. Our acid burns are being rebricked. Tiler should start end of next week early week after. So a few things to do next week in preparation . SS expects we'll be in mid/late November. We'll have to notify RE agent to see if we can stay a few extra weeks, no sure how we approach that if we ask now or closer to November? If you don't intend to leave at the end of your lease you just carry on week by week, and you wont have a lease. When you need to give notice you have to give 3 weeks. They didn't do a 3mth one which worries me. Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1055Sep 29, 2012 3:39 pm Who has a 3 month inspection? Our tenants only have 6 monthly and we didn't have a 3 month one If they want their 6 month just say its inconvenient as you are away and schedule for a couple of weeks later, that way in the mean time you will be able to give notice Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1056Sep 29, 2012 4:31 pm Our annoying agents! That's who! Good idea! I can't wait to get out of here! Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1057Sep 29, 2012 4:54 pm Our agent booked the 3 month inspection, changed the date, & then let themselves in with no notice. The only reason we knew they had been in was they locked the front door from the outside. The house was a tip, but I don't think they were game to comment after the email I sent. I HATE RENTING! Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1058Sep 29, 2012 6:33 pm Hi Everyone! All of you are just lucky you're not building in The Ponds. We already kind of knew this would happen....spoke to Simone and The Commitee has come back with a list of changes they want. The Ponds Developer has very strict rules on what you're allowed to do and what you must do if you want to build there, even though it's your land and your house. Simone will be speaking to drafting next week because the developer has replied with 4 pages of changes, some required, some recommended. I don't know what they all are, but one of them involves more articulation, more variety in materials in the front facade as well as window shading devices etc. So they're not happy with a classic facade Benham 29 even with the Morokka finish and garage door upgrade. They want the porch changed too cos it all looks to plain and flat apparantly. Anyway, Simone and the drafts person will now have to work out what our options are as to what they need to change and what we have to pay extra for to get approved by The Commitee for the build. Once they say 'OK' it goes to Blacktown Council. I'll be very excited when the changes get approved (whatever they may be lol) and Rawson issues gets the go ahead to start construction. I just wonder wether or not that will actually happen before 2013....lol Anyway, one really learns how to be patient and trust in the process, which is not easy. The other bit of news I wanted to share is that we were soooooo impressed with Julie at the colour appointment. What a professional, warm, accomodating and knowledgable human being. Even though Jen1977 and The Rise etc had shared their detailed product / colour experiences from the appointment, we were a bit anxious as to how things would turn out, but Julie made the process so easy. The kitchen pricing has not yet come back, Julie drew it all up and sent it to Elba Kitchens for costings, so we saved time there, but just about everything else we have and it is as expected, in fact a little below what i thought. Mind you that is before all the facade upgrades/changes we will require. Breathing in ....and breathing out. Enjoy the long weekend! Excited about The Swannnnnies! Would love the see the elevations once R has redrawn them. Hoping they come through quick for you. Tarsha, thats good you are slowly recovering without surgey , will they still operate or not just yet ?? Xmas in the new house seems amazing, lets hope the next week or two is without rain so brick and roof can go on. Smorgzz, thats funny about the bulk head on the entry/stairs. You probably wouldn't have relised until someone taller comes over and tries to go upstairs. ![]() ![]() Not long to go now. Once R get going they really get going. So glad we are out of renting I hated is as well !! Your home is oming up beautiful ... Love the stair balustrade, stunning ![]() Paver shopping today, trying to sought out a external time line to get the pool ready by xmas. Glass pool fence is 6 weeks at the earliest,my paving guy is about the same. Selected the Travertine for the pool and external paveways - going for a 406 x 610 to match our internal shaped tile. We are going to carry our internal tile through the alfresco except in the outdoor version - this should tie internally and externally quite nicely. Selected our glass poool fence and feature laser cut timber panels to go on our rear fence... Now thats is all picked I need to actually pay for it ![]() Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1060Sep 30, 2012 8:10 am Dusseldorf - We also had to go through a design committee with Stonecutters Ridge. We got through first go, but have heard of people going back a few times. Hopefully you can get it through this time. With your facade is it possible to do something like our facade (regal facade - seaview) It's basically the classic facade with a bit more detail to the front with the brick columns, and the price difference was only a few grand. TheRise - We went to the display home and it has the bulkhead, but it's cut in, so we'll let the SS what has been done there and he'll modify it. I wonder how some of the houses get through ponds committee etc. Look forward to seeing your alfresco & pool area! I like the idea of running matching outside tiles in the alfresco, might consider that for ours.
