Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 101Jun 22, 2016 12:07 pm Cheers! It's been raining a fair bit today so the site is very wet! By the sounds of things we'll have our docs ready to sign tomorrow or Friday and then it's a waiting game to see when the builders actually start on site; hopefully the wet weather won't hold them up too much (not going to hold my breath) Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 102Jun 26, 2016 5:07 pm It's been fair pouring rain and hailing for the last week, the rain has smoothed out the track marks from the excavator. The block seems to hold a little water but not too bad, so I guess it still sort of drains ok. The sooner the better as the builder will be able to schedule everything once we are signed up and we'll have a better forecast of our timeframe from there (as well as knowing by when we need to have our data cable organised, ceiling fans etc) In the meantime, the block looks good... Thankfully the builder is super eager to get started and has been organising a lot of things in the background off the back of our notification of formal approval so they're hoping to start as soon as Wednesday next week with the retaining wall on the North side, followed around the week after by formwork/slab. Of course the slab looks like co-inciding with when I'm going to Melbourne for 2 days for training with work. I could have almost picked that 3 months ago when I booked the training. Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 105Jul 03, 2016 7:52 am Yay!! Congratulations Silencer!! Shame about the slab being done while you're away but you'll come back to a nice piece of concrete GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 106Jul 04, 2016 8:14 pm I am hoping it takes them a while to do all the plumbing, formwork etc. Time will tell, I guess. We've picked out our ceiling fans - we are going with Mercator's Eagle DC (1400mm) which have LED lights integrated as well. I've put a bit more up about them on the blog if anyone is interested. Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 107Jul 16, 2016 2:57 pm So it turns out I didn't go to training, and site start happened on the date they expected; no slab yet. The reason I didn't go to training though is my father in law passed away suddenly; which is why I haven't been posting much on here! The build has begun though, which is the silver lining in all this; We have a porta-loo: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We got some waffle pods, apparently.... but they blew away... Sympathies to you and your family. Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 110Jul 16, 2016 10:41 pm Lorri It good to see some progress, I had to laugh at the thought of your waffle pads blowing around in the wind though, was it very windy? Yeah we had 100kph gusts the day they dropped them off... not sure what other outcome they would have expected. Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 111Jul 18, 2016 8:39 pm The plumbers have been in and run all of the sewerage today, I was there too late to get any decent photos but I think my wife got some before it got too dark. I don't know at what point the electrical feed to the island bench gets done - does anyone know - would it be done once the formwork is ready (and basically tied to the reo) or way earlier and buried underneath the slab? Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 112Jul 21, 2016 12:23 am Pre-slab works today (Wednesday) - looks like they got a power of work done. Very impressive pace so far although I understand the slab always seems to go down pretty quick then everything stops while it cures!! I know we aren't there yet but it's actually looking bigger than I expected with this compacted crushed rock stuff in the area where the slab is going to sit. Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 116Jul 23, 2016 5:51 pm So cool to catch up on your thread finally. Very sorry to hear about your father in law. Hope you're all doing ok. You're right...your slab looks like it's going to be huge! What size is your house? Block is looking fantastic...so cool when you can finally see where everything is going to go. Hopefully early next week you're posting slab pics! Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 118Jul 23, 2016 11:26 pm deejay08 You're right...your slab looks like it's going to be huge! Not sure but Sarah drove past and said it looked like the piers may have been poured in the morning before the rain really came down. Heaps of water around though, so it doesn't look like our slab will be happening in the next day or so. The formwork had been started too. Hopefully it won't hold them up too long. Re: Custom Build in Warrnambool 120Jul 26, 2016 6:35 am Arrrgh bugger about the rain! Good to see that they seem to keep making progress though. My slab looked tiny. I was freaking out after it was poured, thinking we were building the smallest house in history but then when the frames go up and windows in, it feels much bigger. Imagine how massive your house will be if the slab is huge C U S T O M. C O R A L.
