Our electrical quote has come back at 15,000!!! Jeepers creepers. We were expecting around $8000. But it is lovely to see the electrical plan they've done up for us. It's a work of art. This close to getting the build off the ground and we are heartily weary of BUDGETING and seeking quotes for every little thing and it's sooo tempting just to go "oh stuff it, let's just do it and get this thing started!". Sigh. OMG .... that's huge! Does that include your actual fittings? What has made it go so high? You poor thing .... it's horrible when costs go over like that. ![]() We are in the process of pricing all our fittings now and it's going to be a few thousand - but nothing like that. Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - possible exterior colours vi 107Nov 01, 2013 10:41 am Well the quote from Plantation came back at about $12,000 and our lighting/fans quote (Beacon) came back around $3000. We've added a heck of a lot of powerpoints, fan points, light points, circuits for the pool, home alarm, smart wiring etc so it's not totally out of left field. We haven't gone mad and added 70 downlights or whatever, just 4 or 6 in the living rooms, a few in the hallways etc, it's amazing how it adds up. I just don't know if we'll be able to cut it down... I don't see how we can really. Sigh I need some chocolate! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - contract signed! It's very difficult to picture the glossy textured appearance there but it would be more interesting than it is in that visual anyway. This is a new colorbond roof color called "Basalt" - we are so happy we've heard it's coming out in early December because we just weren't 100% happy with Woodland Grey and this is much more exactly the kind of grey we were after. Anyway, any thoughts anyone???? Hi again - I forgot to ask - how did you do your picture of the house??? I want to play around with some colours on the actual design, but not sure how? Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - possible exterior colours vi 109Nov 01, 2013 11:07 am Heya we paid a visualisation company. Dan is a member on here, that's how I found him. http://www.newhomevisuals.com/ There are a few companies around that do it. We've been happy with the service and it's so helpful. We've been through 4 revisions so far hehehe. We're not really sure about how we'd actually do it.... The panels have to be nailed up so you need something that is water resistant to nail onto for outdoor usage. Probably Formply might be best, so get that attached to the brickwork first. It is important that water needs to be able to freely run off the panels. You need to install them such that if water ever got in behind the panels it could freely run out down the bottom. If it were me I would paint both sides of the panels and I'd use a pretty tough paint - maybe the auto 2-pack paint. Hope that helps, Jean Morrison Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - possible exterior colours vi 111Nov 02, 2013 1:13 am Hi Emy ![]() Evening Haze - is that your primary render colour? I'm quite torn about this colour, sometimes it looks grey for eg on my screen, but in person it looks like a dark cream with grey undertone, and then I saw another post that had a Colorbond shed coloured Evening Haze, and that looked pure cream. I'm a bit/a lot confused! What's been your thoughts on this, if any? Obviously I'm asking the question because it's one of the colours we chose today ![]() --- Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - possible exterior colours vi 112Nov 02, 2013 6:59 am Hmmm well I'm a little confused about it too to be honest haha. It's definitely got grey undertones. I would describe it as a very light khaki really. But I can see how it might be described as a dirty beige. If you put it against classic cream you can see its really not cream though! I'll post a pic a bit later if I get a moment. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - possible exterior colours vi 113Nov 02, 2013 7:20 am This was the "inspiration pic" we used as a starting point because we liked the general colours. While I don't know for 100% sure what the render colour is, the picture is from the colorbond website and we noticed the render matches the garage door so hopefully it IS a colorbond colour, and it definitely seemed closest to evening haze. In this picture it looks almost light khaki or has a hint of olive about it but it's hard to know for sure. Sorry Emy if you already mentioned it on a previous post --- Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - possible exterior colours vi 119Nov 04, 2013 6:50 pm Hi We have got Evening Haze for our roof and guttering and jasper for our fascia. Have no idea yet what colour to go for our render .... so will be taking big notice of your choices to get some ideas !!! LOL Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - possible exterior colours vi 120Nov 06, 2013 1:47 pm Good news and bad news today. We had colour selection appointment yesterday. A black cat crossed our paths as we set off on the drive to the colours appointment so we should have known something was coming!! ![]() Good news - colour selection went really well. I'm so excited with how our house is going to look! We were having trouble finding a laminate colour to match the floors in the bathroom to keep the whole thing a clean two-tone, and our selection lady found a new sample for us which matches PERFECTLY. And am happy with the external colours also. We just need to get samples of Evening Haze and Evening Haze Double Strength and decide which one to go with (probably double strength but we'll see). Bad news - the estate/covenant/developer whatever they're called has rejected our house plans. ![]() ![]() ![]() I know 2-4 weeks delay isn't huge in the grand scheme of things but we are SO SO CLOSE to finally getting this build off the ground and we'd tried to do the right thing and address these issues ahead of time. Also we've had to lock in hubby's holidays for next year and we did a best guess based on estimated start time and construction time (trying to line up with moving house or at least just after moving house as I'm sure there'd be plenty to do). Looks like he'll now have holidays a few weeks before finishing the house which SUCKS. Not to mention paying for an eaves change just for the heck of it, down the side of the house which nobody is going to see anyway. Plantation have been so good about it all. The head draftsman is so lovely and nothing is ever too much trouble. He got onto it right away and also said they won't charge a variation fee for doing this structural changes (let's hope he's right)!
