Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 21, 2007 7:47 pm Hi all, Can anybody help with kitchen colours. We have chosen Laminex 'Limestone' bench tops with Laminex 'Wenge' cupboard doors and are wondering what colours you may suggest for overhead cupboards??? We have seen display homes with two differant colours used on under bench cupboards and overhead cupboards, but are not sure what would look good. Any guggestions would be greatly appreciated. Re: HELP, any sggestions for kitchen door colours 2May 21, 2007 9:12 pm I'd say a white. Or any light colour.
http://www.laminex.com.au/gallery.aspx?type=2 I just browsed on the laminex site and found that link. There's some sample images and how they've used a dark colour that looks similar to what you picked. I do apologise if you've already seen that before. But I personally like the 'Stylish Haven' and 'Confident Kitchen' combos. [sneakersss] I loved it 3May 22, 2007 8:40 am I chose the two tone look as well and brought some of the colour down to make things interesting. I think it worked out well.
I have enclosed my blog which has photos if you want to have a look. http://ourpeoplesplace.blogspot.com/ Tam Re: HELP, any sggestions for kitchen door colours 5May 22, 2007 10:18 am Hi there
I did mine slightly different as I didn't want such a strong contrast - I picked a darker colour laminate for all the cupboards (including overheads) - to break it up I put frosted glass in the overhead cupboards. I also did the banks of drawers in a contrasting lighter laminate. In terms of what colour is best for what you have already chosen it would depend on what tone the bench top and also what you intend to have as a splashback colour. If the bench top is white I would go for a white laminate but if it is more creamy tones I would choose something with a cream or mocha tone to it.....I'm not an expert though! Perhaps post a picture of your laminate colours on here and you might get some more replies!! Good luck Nat Re: HELP, any sggestions for kitchen door colours 7May 22, 2007 10:28 am First I need to know how much natural light is coming into your kitchen, do you have a good size window or windows?
The Wenge laminate is VERY dark, for me when I do a two tone kitchen I like to make one dark and the other lighter. You have done the right thing by keeping the darker colour below eye line, so the wall cupboards should be the lighter, to keep the kitchen feeling bigger and brighter. Other questions which needs to be asked ……is your overall design of your home….. 1) Contemporary 2) Country 3) Cool clean lines minimalist 4) Slink and modern And so forth……these need to be taken into thought. What colour are your walls going to be? This will all factor into your wall cupboards colour? Personally…..IF YOU’RE BRAVE….I would go a white wall cupboard, the contrast will be striking!!! A special thanks to Matt for posting the colours, greatly appreciated.
Michelle, The kitchen has a big window, with lots of natural light also from the dining/family room. The wall colour will be 'Doeskin' from Solver Paints (a cream/caramel colour) with similar floor tiles. We are building the 'Clarendon' from Statesman Homes (www.statesman-homes.com.au). We have also thought about frosted glass panels in two of the overhead cupboards, but cost will be a factor here. Really appreciate your replies, this is a great forum. I have enjoyed sharing your experiences and am looking forward to seeing your homes complete. Donna. 920 was enough to get the furniture in. But I guess it's harder to tell the cost/benefit in your example - mainly the 'cost'?
