Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Benham 33 journey 721Aug 09, 2012 7:33 am Everyone seems to be moving on , thats great. Tarsha really hope you sought these vanities out - do you have pegs yet on your land ?? Handover next thursday or Friday. Painters havn't started their fixups yet. SS advised they will start today !!! PGH didn't want to approve the NAWKAW but SS pushed it through for us with them. Really sad to say goodbye to him as he has been the best SS we have ever had. TOday alot of planning with fine precision to ensure tiles are delivered, laid and carpet laid all within the shortest period of time. Also the juggling of the kiddies between the grandparents. We have given a date of the following Tuesday to return the keys to the rental... No more rent, no more open homes here, no more trying to fit our lives into this postage stamp... Now lets pray for the painters to turn up today as it is depending on this to be completed.... so excited going to burst Re: Our Benham 33 journey 722Aug 09, 2012 7:40 am TheRise - Fingers crossed the painters get their stuff done today!!! I'm so excited for you, although extremely envious that you are moving into your new place! I told my husband I want to go into hibernation and wake up when our place is finished, patience isn't my thing... I bet you can't wait to walk in and hand back the rental keys!! Good work by your SS to get PGH to agree to the nawkaw! Am I right in saying your build has taken 4 months from formwork to handover? I'd be happy if mine took that long... I'd just love to be in by the 8th of November when our lease expires... *wishful thinking* Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 723Aug 09, 2012 8:30 am Smorgzzz im not sure if anything has happened on our site I might have to go for a drive out there on the weekend only reason we know who our SS is because Paul told us who it would probably be.. No one else has mentioned it really The rise - we finally have them all sorted thank god! 4 months seems like such a quick build I'm sure ours will be a bit longer been two storey but to think we could be in by feb next year!! That's also really good about your bricks! My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 724Aug 09, 2012 9:36 am TheRise so excited for you. Are you allowed to have the tiles/carpet installed before the property is handed over to you? Smorgzzz - I think you will find that your house will take longer than 4 months. I was speaking to Simone last week and she said that they don't go over 35 weeks for a double storey, where a single storey is a lot quicker than double. Have they given you any indication of how long it will take (even though their contract is 40 weeks) Maybe Christmas might be a doable deadline. Tarsha - thanks for the pics of the vanitys, I was hoping that I would be able to have something like we had in our old house, which was cupboard on either side of the vanity and then a large set of drawers in the middle. The shelves would not work for us, as pretty as they are filled up with towels, they would have their towels in there for 5 mins and then they would be pulled out and filled with kids toys that they have decided to stuff in them. Hoping fingers crossed that we should get our plans today. I am at work today so it will be perfect as I can print them all out and get them signed tonight and back tomorrow. I want to keep things moving as quick as possible. I have sent Simone an email asking if they are coming today (they promised by the end of this week) she hasnt gotten back to me yet, but hoping I am not let down. Port Stephens council says they only take two weeks to approve plans, but through my dealings with them, I am not holding my breath. I'm sending all our docs back to Rawson today to commence the CDC Approvals, but will need to wait until next week to pay them the actual money. 5-6 weeks of submissions and approvals here we come. Meanwhile getting demolition quotes galore, we're looking at approx $25K for demolition including the removal of all the trees on our lot (over 10+, some 20m high) I can't wait until we have a big slab of dirt. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 726Aug 09, 2012 11:43 am Jen - no indication yet, another double in our estate took 5.5mths including Christmas shut down and the terrible weather at the tart of the year. If I don't hear from him today I need to sought someone else out. My neighbour up the road has a great tiler - same $$$ might try and use his after hes finished with him. About to go for a drive and make sure the painters rocked up - if they havn't I think I will . Maybe the painters and my tiler have fallen into the big black hole ..... Smorggz - i know what you mean baout hibernation. Yesterday my DH said to me that the old me is coming back, i suddenly have enthusiasm and motivation. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 728Aug 09, 2012 1:16 pm TheRise - your timeline keeping is fantastic. Smorgzzz is right, the boys have really powered along on your build. I told my boss yesterday I was taking leave at the beginning of October. I am hoping our build will start middle to late October, so I wanted to go on holidays before it started so I could be back in time for the start. He thought I was nuts. He said that I don't have to be there when they build and they can do it on their own. He is a builder, so does it everyday, but he just doesnt understand. Luckily DH's leave was approved for when we wanted it (touch and go there for awhile) so I can front and centre when they start moving dirt. SS advised they would have it done by Monday .... problem is they need to come back off their own back, they don't get paid extra to fix up there paint this is why they are taking there time..Costing us Money! I;m just trying to keep busy and not thinking about it... very difficult to do as I am impatient as well. ( just like you Smorgz, I hate waiting around ) Re: Our Benham 33 journey 730Aug 09, 2012 5:41 pm TheRise - surely Rawson haven't fully paid their painters yet. I always hold money from our painters until client and I am happy with the painting and there is no defects left. Surely rawson would do the same thing. Knowing a large builder like that they would probably hold retention from them just in case. They have taken way to long initially and upon returning. We are not going to wait around till they decide to turn up.. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 732Aug 09, 2012 6:56 pm Just tell rawson you will take it off their final bill. Grrr to Rawson today, was hoping to get plans today. Sent two emails with no reply. Will chase tomorrow as I was told end of this week. One positive, my boss put in a DA last week and expected it to be approved today, do just over a week, thinks they are that quick at the moment. Hoping we will be the same. Sorry for my spat... don't like seeing my home sitting there 98% finished and lonely. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 734Aug 09, 2012 7:05 pm Dont be sorry I would rant too. The problem is it is hard to get them back as they move onto the next job, and they will come back when they have time free. Just keep onto the SS and see if you can get their diect number. Remember it's those that pester that get things done, that or threaten to take money off the bill. That gets things done pretty quickly Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Our Benham 33 journey 736Aug 10, 2012 12:10 pm Happy for you Building The Benham 29 in The Ponds With Rawson Homes http://buildingwithrawson.blogspot.com.au/ Site Start 13/2/13 Handover 7/8/13 Re: Our Benham 33 journey 737Aug 10, 2012 12:12 pm It is frustrating though that one has to wait so long for various things to happen. We're waiting on our revised plans to sign off on and have been told 3 weeks. I just think that is pretty unreasonable, but what can one do. Building The Benham 29 in The Ponds With Rawson Homes http://buildingwithrawson.blogspot.com.au/ Site Start 13/2/13 Handover 7/8/13 Re: Our Benham 33 journey 738Aug 10, 2012 1:22 pm duesseldorf - I hope this post helps. Hang in there, I know it is frustrating playing the constant waiting game, I don't have much patience and there was many a day when it felt like construction would never start. We were aiming at having approval prior to christmas last year and start construction Jan, well da wasn't lodged till late Jan, we had missing documents, pool diagrams wrong and it honestly felt like forever. Try and keep yourself busy with little things that may help later on... I hope they get back to you earlier than 3 weeks. We are coming up to 12 months since we paid our first deposit with R. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 739Aug 10, 2012 1:24 pm dussel: We had 3 week turnaround on our plans each time too. Initial Plans: 3 weeks Finalised CDC Plans: 3 weeks (even though nothing of note changed) Then there's 6 weeks for CDC applications/BASIX/etc. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 740Aug 10, 2012 2:57 pm duesseldorf we were 3.5 weeks for original plans and now 3 weeks for revised plans. I have argued until I am blue in the face, but it doesnt wrok. I was told that I would have them by the end of this week at the latest, asked for them to come yesterday and told that they would do their best, nothing heard yesterday even though I sent two emails. Sent another email today to be told that they will be done today. Have sent another email as it is getting late in the day to not hear anything again. Starting to wear on me a bit. Koroboo - 6 weeks for CDC and basix - is that 6 weeks before it goes into council for approval? TheRise - congrats!!!!!! - would put some icons in, but only on the quick reply so I cant. Going to give it until 3:30pm and then I will start chasing by phone. I want these plans today so I can go over them over the weekend and send them back Monday.
