Browse Forums Building A New House Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 68Jun 19, 2012 3:45 pm cjb abazz82 We're building at Armstrong Creek also, 30yo just had our first bubs 5 days ago! - which has kind of put the build down on my list of priorities... just hit lockup stage for us, building with Urban Edge at 1203 Silvercrest. so far they've been really good. amazing how quickly it's going up. I only really get a chance to see it once a week, seems everytime I head down there another 4-5 houses have sprung up! can't wait till it's all done and all the activity down there has settled down a bit. We are just about neighbors. We are the Carlisle at 2010, a couple of doors up. What sort of time are they giving you for completion? ahh yes, i've been keeping an eye on your build and the other neighbours... i noticed the build in between us has just started on the weekend... our builder has said we're been looking at being close to finished in about 8 weeks. which would probably make us one of the first to move in I reckon. not sure if that's a good or a bad thing to be honest. i really need to get around to submitting a front landscaping plan to the developers too. re: flooding questions, I think it's held up remarkably well following the rains earlier this month. interesting article in the surfcoast times about this: http://www.surfcoasttimes.com.au/news/c ... ood-proof/ Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 69Jun 19, 2012 7:56 pm milesy71 We're building in the Warralily Coast precinct - Torse Avenue which is expected to title Jan/Feb 2013 - seems an eternity away! We're from Darwin (my wife is originally from Melbourne and I'm from Brisbane) and we'll be building from the NT, around 3,500 km's away. Still choosing a design though the Plaza from Boutique, the Mitsu from Sekisui and our own design by Hotondo are at the top of our list. Sounds like Carlisle is a popular choice with a good response from a few of you here. We're really pleased with how everything has gone so far. Sales staff at Warralily were excellent and I think the survey for potential residents was a great initiative. I hope all your builds go to plan - its an exciting time! There are people still waiting for title that signed nearly 2 years ago, that's an eternity Thanks, and good luck with your design/loan/title/build Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 70Jun 19, 2012 8:53 pm abazz82 re: flooding questions, I think it's held up remarkably well following the rains earlier this month. interesting article in the surfcoast times about this: http://www.surfcoasttimes.com.au/news/c ... ood-proof/ Thanks abazz82, that is indeed an interesting article, though I don't like people making definitive statements like "flood proof", it's certainly a better read than the moronic comments like "LOL U BUILDIN A HOUSE BOAT?" after the undeveloped paddock at 772-890 Barwon Heads Road flooded last January. Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 71Jun 25, 2012 10:18 am Maybe someone can help me. I remember some early info about warralily suggested that the NBN meant we could get TV down the data cable, and won't need an TV aerial. But I vaguely remember that changing. Do we still need an antenna? Anyone else looked into this? My Bricks started today!!! That's a big step forward. I wonder what is happening with mine... might have to pop past later. Thanks for the info... something else to think about organizing. How's the landscape design coming? I think I'm nearly there. I want to extend my cross over, not sure if they are going to allow it. What it doesn't support, and this is what I guess is being discussed, is an RF channel that could terminate on a coaxial antenna jack, like Foxtel does over the same Hybrid Fibre/Coax network that "cable Internet" is delivered on. I don't know exactly why NBNco decided to do this, but I would guess that they see RF-based TV as nearing obsolescence, and I can understand that. Some NBN retail service providers offer an IPTV service which, with the extra capacity on NBN fibre, would probably work well. If none of the IPTV offerings are to your liking, you could see if you could get an antenna installed in your roof space; I have heard of people doing this in other "clean roof" estates to get Foxtel. On another note: someone SMSed into the Addy (I know it's brain-rotting, but sometimes they have Armstrong Creek news) and claimed that some of the sites at Warralily were "the worst" he'd seen in 20 years in the building industry, in relation to water. A brickie friend of mine showed me a photo on his phone of a lot with pipes sticking out of water on a lot, like periscopes, though he also said not to worry Is this the sort of thing one could expect from any new estate during times of heavy rain? Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 76Jun 26, 2012 8:14 am http://www.fetchtv.com.au/ may be of interest... I don't know if there are IPTV service providers doing it now, but NBN ONTs (the termination boxes) can multiplex four different data services over your fibre cable, meaning you could connect directly to an IPTV service provider that is not your ISP - basically, multiple Internet connections, with one dedicated to TV, if providers offered it, and you so chose. NBNco will soon be offering multicast services, which is an efficient way to deliver IPTV (basically, the provider sends, for example, the Channel 7 stream to everyone watching Channel 7 at once, instead of all those viewers connecting individually and the service provider sending out a few hundred thousand streams) and multicast service traffic would be prioritised over normal Internet traffic, decreasing the chance that downloading via your web browser or bittorrent client would make your TV go choppy. Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 77Jun 26, 2012 8:18 am So is it worth installing a tv aerial or will the nbn be offering standard tv channels in the near future?? I'm not too good with all the technical stuff. I'm currently with iinet and plan to swap over to the nbn plan, they offer iptv (fetchtv) but I don't think it includes any of the normal tv channels. Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 78Jun 26, 2012 9:15 am http://www.iinet.net.au/fetchtv/packages.html says all the packages have the free-to-air channels, if that's what you mean. If you click the blue "free to air channels" box, it gives a list of which specific channels are included. I've never used fetchtv and couldn't tell you if it's any good or not, though. If you're allowed to stick an antenna on the roof, or you can put it somewhere under the roof and get good enough reception, and you only want free-to-air, maybe look into getting an antenna, but I don't know how well it would work. Re: anyone building in armstrong creek? 80Jun 26, 2012 9:35 am I can't see how they could not allow us to put an antenna on the roof if there is no alternative available?? The initial optic fibre setup was supposed to be like a Telstra or opticomm estate which provided everything through one cable but since the decision to change to the nbn I can't see how we could stick to the rule of no antennas as there is no real viable option to get tv/foxtel without it. Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you.
