Cheers Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 2032May 07, 2012 3:26 pm essilou ::cheerleader:: WOOHOO We have the keys to our house!!!! A very big THANK YOU to McDonald Jones Homes for building our house which looks amazing inside and outside! We were very impressed with the construction process and did not experience any hassles or extensive delays during construction. All the staff at McDonald Jones Homes are so professional and helpful. We had the pleasure of dealing with Christine and Craig during our colour/electrical appointments, Suzzanne was our CLO and Peter/Wayne our final SS. We've appreciated their advice and assistance with everything since signing on the dotted line and were also impressed to receive a 'celebration hamper' filled with goodies as a gift from McDonald Jones congratulating us on our new home. The journey has been a long one since purchasing our block of land back in October 2010 but we have now reached the important milestone of handover! We excitedly showed off our house to family and friends over the weekend and made some awesome furniture purchases! What a great community we've moved into and I'd say our house is one of the best looking ones (ok maybe we're biased) LOL Es & Tim http://lot211glenmoreridge.blogspot.com.au/ wow the house looks great the MJH homes do stand out from the rest ....in a good way Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 2033May 07, 2012 4:08 pm Lillypad agetator Lillypad Hi all, We too have been following this forum for what seems like forever! As first home buyers/builders, we have been searching for the right home with the right price for about a year and a half. Originally, we had intended to build with Masterton Homes, had two tenders completed but in the end we loved the MDJ design, finish and customer service. After what felt like forever looking at land and homes, we decided on Oran Park (of course the first place we looked) building the Santorini Manor with no changes to the plans. To date, we have been to colours and received our contact on Friday which will be signed by the end of the week. Registration of the land has taken longer then expected. Initially we were told end of March, to now be told end of May. Hopefully building will start sometime in late June early July. To date we are extreamly happy with MDJ! Big thank you to everyone who is sharing their building experiences and knowledge with us. Here's to a relatively stress free build and good luck to everyone! welcome lillypad what part of Oran park are you building .we to looked at what seemed like 1000 houses but went with MJH just love there designs ,so far no hassles with them lol yes it seems to take forever for things to start so much paperwork and stuff . enjoy the ride Hi agetator, we are building in 3B on South Circuit, it appears we are on different ends of Oran Park from reading your blog. Your build appears to be moving very fast! hope ours does too! yes we are in 9D Agostini Circuit, your in the old track site lota history there. It seems to take forever for things to start but when it does moves fairly fast (so far) bricks comming Tue start bricking Wed and should be finnished late the following week if it dosn't rain that is . The wife is busting to move in already lol. McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 2034May 07, 2012 4:10 pm I miss oran park raceway. Hating banks at the moment. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 2035May 07, 2012 7:53 pm We haven't been to colours yet and we are $74,000 over the base price. We have estimated that our building contract will be $90,000 over the base price. We are not going silly at colours and not upgrading much at all. As we are finishing the house ourself with tiles, carpet etc, we are thinking that we will be near to $140,000 over once we have done it. We didn't think it would be cheap, but even without colours and a $10,000 discount from MJH we are already $10,000 over our initial budget. Only very minor issues that will need fixing. We are very happy with the final outcome. Now for handover..... At the end of it MDJ has come up with the goods and have made us very happy. The house is awesome! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 2037May 08, 2012 3:14 pm I'm looking at MDJ and a lot of you recently are mentioning that you are spending 100k on upgrades(including site costs). Now I know this is pretty normal across the industry. However, just out of interest, what exactly are you spending this on? The impressions package looks pretty good. Could you have gotten away spending a lot less than this if you wanted to? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 2038May 08, 2012 3:31 pm Hi Art, we spent over 110k on base price (not including electricals, flooring and driveway which we will do ourselves) and these from memory were the most expensive items: Site Costs Roof Tiles instead of Colourbond Upgraded Bricks Alfresco Facade LIN1 Doors throughout 2.7mtr Ceilings Impressions Package 60mm Cesar Stone for Island Bench 40mm Cesar Stone for Rest of Kitchen Upgrade to Porcelain Tiles in Bathroom + Laundry Upgrade to Stainless Steel Semi Framless Showers 1.8mtr Long Laundry Bench + Overhead Cupboards as you can see most of the items listed above it would be hard pressed to install after you move in, as it is required during construction. We are saving the most money in Electricals and Flooring which we will be doing most of it ourselves after handover. Hope this gives you an idea!
