To be honest this was the hardest bit for me, I found they can take there time with things like this and can get quite frustrating. Hang in There. If you have the space to add the extra .5m , we did .6m last time and it was worth it. Made a real difference. This time I ended up giving my husband the study which was on the back wall of the garage. It is now a section in the garage that is about 2.8 x 2.8 that runs of the rear, he would have loved a 3rd garage but it is so hard to fit a triple garage on the land blocks these day. He is so funny with his garage, to be honest there are times when used to be neater than the house. ![]() Waiting for bricks to arrive..thinking probably monday.... Re: Our Benham 33 journey 129May 03, 2012 8:54 am ... and good luck with your opens!! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Our Benham 33 journey 131May 03, 2012 10:38 am Plans on the Clifton31 is 6m, with our 'upgrade' we're looking at 6.5m. We're lucky in that we will still have approx 1.5m and 2m clearances to the sides. My parent's place has a 5.5m garage, they only have a single car in there and use the other side as storage/dad's work area, and it seems enough, however if there were 2 cars parked in there I can see it being a bit of a struggle if you wanted to have other storage also. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 132May 03, 2012 12:30 pm Ooh! I have an interest in this product or service. ![]() Custom-design home was costed and ... let's just say "too much". Among the alternatives we've looked-at was a Rawson Edge; without a massive number of changes it's not far off what we had custom designed (and that's despite having stuff like an over-heght 4-car garage & the whole thing only going onto a sub-600sqm block), and with even fewer changes we can have something very similar to standard (except replacing my better half's desired downstairs guest & retirement-bedroom with my garage ![]() We've not gone far along this path yet, we're still at the "what's possible" stage that comes before the "how much" stage; but I'm very interested to see what people are saying of Rawson & particularly in/around Sydney (looking at reviews online it seems "the same builder" can actually be quite different in different areas, I guess depending on staff). Re: Our Benham 33 journey 133May 03, 2012 2:53 pm Hi Forg Totally agree with you there. Seems to be a few negative comments about R Homes however most of them are from the ACT. So far everyone in Sydney seems to be having a good experience... Let's hope it stays that way Re: Our Benham 33 journey 134May 03, 2012 4:24 pm Hey guys FIrst things first! THE RISE congrats on your slab!! so good that the rain has held off for a bit and I cant wait to see more pictures as it keeps going up (even though its making me jealous that we have to wait lol) also your stairs looked fantastic.. I had talked myself out of the lights and now i think I want them again.. (also good to know to go to the CSO for any electrical hassles) I have just organised our internal selections appointments and we cant do it until the end of June ![]() ![]() Our garage is about 5.6 metres i think which should be ok.. They originally took some width off the garage but the sales guy helped us move some things and add some back on to it Smorgzzz where was this slippery slide?? I was down there not long ago and didnt see it ![]() Re: Our Benham 33 journey 135May 03, 2012 5:02 pm Tarsha - It was in Alk!ra Homes, their first one. Let's hope it stays that way We've actually just got home from a 'VIP Information Evening' with them ... seems our acting very interested coincided with them having a gathering with prospective customers & builders & designers & architects & site supervisors etc. Had a decent chat, got a free feed (fancy finger-food gets a thumbs-up ![]() They seem quite passionate & proud about winning HIA awards for display homes, too. ![]() Re: Our Benham 33 journey 137May 04, 2012 8:40 am We wanted to go to that VIP night, but it was booked out before we could RSVP. I think there is one on the 10th, but it's at Homeworld South, and not sure we'd venture that far out on a weekday. Do you think it was worth it for someone who has already signed up? Tarsha - We did the electrical consult & the internals seperately, a couple of months apart. I think they like to do them seperately so that everything can be finalised and so the electrical consultant can see where things are placed and ensure it's wired correctly. We should sign off on our electrical in the next day or so, a few minor amendments to the plans that are in council, should move onto construction certificate next week sometime, and then we're good to go!! Settlement for our land is Wednesday next week and they've finally opened up the gates to allow access!!! YAY!! I want to get a slab down hopefully by August.. Plans are all in with Stockland at the moment so hopefully all goes well Smorgzzz I need to see this house lol Re: Our Benham 33 journey 139May 04, 2012 12:47 pm ![]() We wanted to go to that VIP night, but it was booked out before we could RSVP. I think there is one on the 10th, but it's at Homeworld South, and not sure we'd venture that far out on a weekday. Do you think it was worth it for someone who has already signed up? IMHO, not if it's an impost. It'll make you more comfortable actually talking to people, if you're at all uncomfortable or edgy about what you're doing; and I guess if something unexpected does happen then you've met the people who'll have to fix it for you & "difficult stuff" is easier when you actually know the people you're trying to communicate with. But given that you've decided almost everything already, and the build's on it's way, you probably wouldn't gain a heap out of it apart from some warm & fuzzies. Unless you've got questions, I guess, but then you'd most likely already asked whoever you're regularly dealing-with. ![]() Re: Our Benham 33 journey 140May 04, 2012 1:06 pm Tarsha - yes you need to see this house!!!! Both my husband and I wizzed down the slide (despite a 50kg weight limit) it was exhilarating!!! Wonder how much that variation would cost lol If you know what you want and your consult is quick you should be good to go, ours was slow, the lady only works one day a week and it took a whole week for her to get back to us with changes to our quotes etc plus I had to go back to R to get confirmation of things etc. Forg- thanks for the feedback, will see if my husband wants to go.
