Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 23, 2012 12:50 pm Our house is almost complete and after discussions with the builder I contacted the builder's electrician direct (with the builders permission) to install all our light fittings rather than putting up battens. When it came to the charge the electrician was evasive saying that it depends on the fitting and the time taken etc etc. I was under the impression it would take a couple of days and was expecting $1,000 to $1,500or so to put them up given he didn't even need to put up a batten. After he put them all up he informed the standard charge was $50.40 + GST for the 45 light fittings. ( no builders margin or anything , that is direct by the sparky) = $2,500 . I told him I was not happy because if he had told me up front that his standard charge was $50.40 + GST I would have just got him to put battens up and got someone else to do it after handover. Basically there were 18 oyster lights, 9 wall lights, 9 bunker lights, 3 external spot lights, 3 vanity lights, 1 pendant light and 2 updown lights.
