We had planned to build the Milano which would have been perfect for our family with two rapidly growing teenage boys. Shocked when we got the quote requiring heaps of extra work because we are on a sloping traingular (end of cul-de-sac) block. The salesman was very helpful and played around with location on the block. Back corner works best. We can now get away with just a drop edge beam but the lovely sliding doors at the back will now look out onto the back fence (albeit with 4 metres of yard) instead of our big tree-lined yard which is now really a side yard! So here we are back looking at other designs with more of a side focus. Still very keen to build with MJH. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The Milano sure is a beautiful home, we would have built that one as well but our block is the size of a match box!! So we jammed the Havana 3 instead! Good luck with finding a better suited design, hopefully you can stick with MJH! A little update on our end…… We are all slabbed up!! Drove by this morning and true to our slab SS word’ the concreters we out there at 7am pouring the good stuff!! We’ll update the blog once we get a few pics of the slab complete. We only have these for now... Congrats. molly do you have any pics ?? scotta, glad that frame issue seems to have been resolved. I have a question - we just received our plans for approval - how is any normal lay person who's never built a house supposed to comprehend this ?? I am a little bamboozled, what should we be looking out for ? thanks ! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1129Sep 16, 2011 4:30 pm same here... though what we checked the following : 1) layout 2) facade (plan should tell you which one is rendered or brick) 3) side setbacks 4) location of gas point 5) location of taps 6) direction of on which the doors open basic checks only.. budgnbear kopite, how exciting !!!! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1134Sep 21, 2011 6:18 pm Thanks Kornjen. That's more than I expected. Glad I asked. Did you take up either of these? I wonder how easy it is to get the ducting done after you move in. I think it would be cheaper than this. Think I'll stick with tiles for the splashback.
