Re: laura2009 - my build 92Jul 07, 2011 11:03 am 1stBuildFR Hi Laura2009, I may have missed it in your forum somewhere, but just wondering why they didnt lay Alfresco Slab at beginning Slab pour? I'm building with Fairmont, and they did my Alfresco slab with the house slab. When we found out how cheap slab was, we couldnt say no, to having the Alfresco slabbed I don't know why it wasn't poured at the same time? They sought of did concrete footings for it but I do remember it saying in the paperwork to be poured seperately. I assumed there was some sort of special reason for that. I was thinking last night that it should be secured to the existing slab somehow so it doesn't pull away over time. We had thought about a building a deck ourselves until we got the concrete qoute for the alfresco. Good price and seemed so much easier than adding another post-handover job to our growing list. Re: laura2009 - my build - ugly downpipes 94Jul 09, 2011 7:25 pm oh dear If they get painted in a dark colour like your bricks, it will improve the look a great deal. Perhaps talk to your builder about whether there is any alternative to the downpipe placement. Re: laura2009 - my build 95Jul 09, 2011 8:04 pm I see what you mean. I would look at painting them. Our builder paints ours whatever colour we want. Re: laura2009 - my build - ugly downpipes 96Jul 09, 2011 8:20 pm That's ridiculous! The downpipe positions have been a pain for us as well. It's not only our homes either that have them in stupid positions. I went past a home getting built by our builder today and DH and I couldn't help but laugh. They had a verandah entrance out front with a single post in the middle and sure enough, there's the downpipe on that post. You just don't want downpipes at your entrance when you go in! I would suggest painting them a darker colour to blend in with the paint or moving them after handover. Unfortunately, our builder doesn't want to know about them. Re: laura2009 - my build - ugly downpipes 97Jul 12, 2011 9:18 am I got in to take some paint pics yesterday. The hall and bedrooms are completed and they were painting the doors when I arrived. Living area still only first coat. It looked like a really tidy job and the painters were friendly and let me know what they were doing. The trades on site have been a million times better at customer service than SS has been. (Fairmont) Wattyl Flokati to walls with white ceiling & trims. Will they paint them so they don't stick out like a sore thumb? Re: laura2009 - my build - paint pics 99Jul 12, 2011 10:05 am Hi Lara, hope the painting goes smoothly for you.Regarding down pipes, the house you built was there a display home if yes were pipes in same position. If there as a display and pipes were placed somewere else you could have an argument for them to be moved Re: laura2009 - my build - paint pics 100Jul 12, 2011 12:01 pm Being first time builders we didn't even think about where downpipes would be and it was never raised with us during the design process. It's a modified version of a plan too so the facade is not the same. If the checkout girls at the supermarket can ask me where I want my meat packed and let me know where they have placed the eggs, I think the same service should be given to me as a client when building!
