Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 03, 2011 6:47 pm Having lived in a few homes, one that was badly damaged by termites, I was surprised today whilst looking to buy a block of land in the new Sydney suburbs how many were built with white unprotected timber frames and a cheap reticulated chemical pipe system in the external wall cavities of the homes. I cannot believe this is still happening particularly seeing the vast improvement in designs and quality being offered in display homes today. Do the builders really care or are they just working within the limits and cutting down the costs. Probably more important do we really care as home buyers... having had one very expensive bad experience myself ($60,000.oo worth of damage) I built my last 2 homes with steel frames and roof trusses so I really do care... Not a lot is said on the termite subject but I believe 1 in 3 or 4 homes in NSW are attacked by termites. I think we should all be aware of the potential damage they can cause... because somehow I don't think our builders care. Life is an enjoyment, enjoy it Re: Termites..Do builders really care? 2Apr 03, 2011 7:30 pm Very true, there are a lot of houses around us, that are untreated timber and not even termi-mesh or equivalent. Blows my mind, spending $300k on a house on redeveloped farmland, and not protecting it. I have had previous bad experience with termites too, not as much damage as you have had, but maybe people don't think or worry about it until it happens to them ? do not pay until you are satisfied with workmanship windows require flashing over the head archithrave and up under weatherboards 3 28579 Site works are just about to start on our build with Blueprint in Midvale. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106894 2 4181 Hi all, We are looking to build a new two storey house in western Sydney.
