Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 06, 2008 11:12 am I am so mad that I am seeing red!!!! We went to take a look at our block on the weekend and what do we find??!!! Boulders!!! Some moron has dumped these 2 massive boulders on our block!! They are huge and we can't move them. Now we have to pay $450 to have them removed!! How can people do that?! We have to fork over our hard earned money because some morons have decided to use our block as a dumping ground!! There is nothing we can do about it because we didn't see who did it. If that wasn't bad enough the workers for the Port** D*av*s house being built next us are pigs. There is so much food wrappers, beer bottles and empty cigarette packs on our block. They have even left garbage from the house on our block. We phoned the site supervisor and nothing has been done. We will phone one more time and then we are going to the council. With the dumping and garbage we are so disheartened. I wanted this to be a happy time and we haven't even started building and already we are frustrated and sad. My husband has already said that we are never building again. PD was building next door to our block and one day we noticed they have dumped 2 piles of soil on ours. We phoned the contract administrator for that particular site, and after a couple of follow up calls, it was gone My suggestion is to call the head office rather than waste your time with the supervisor. Re: Dumping on our block! 4Jun 06, 2008 12:30 pm We've got a block of land in Wyndham Vale for sale.
Next door neighbour requested that I pay half for his new fence....sent him a polite letter saying fair enough...so long as you get your builder to move the dirt off my front yard, the bits of temporary fencing with their logo.... , bricks which match their house, and various other junk from their building. Request was in January.....still hasn't built the fence.....not sure what the hold up is, but I'm not paying for the fence until the rubbish is no longer my problem......sick of being the "nice guy"...... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Dumping on our block! 5Jun 06, 2008 12:50 pm All i can say is, I'm glad I'm the first to be building in our estate!!
in fact, I might even COLLECT some of the big rocks ****** around for later use in the garden Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: Dumping on our block! 7Jun 06, 2008 1:10 pm Jewel, are they the same sort of granite boulders that have been used in the pathway along Kirribilli? How big are they?
I'm heading down to check out our place this afternoon, i'll do a drive around and if they are the same type of granite boulders, we might take them off your hands? Our neighbour has bobcats and diggers so we might call in a favour with them.... but no promises... Would you be ok with that? Re: Dumping on our block! 9Jun 06, 2008 2:22 pm My uncle had rubbish dumped on his site such as other builder's excess cement, rocks, food wraps, cans etc.
We went to the developer to complain cos we sort of knew which builder did it The developer told us they can't do anything about it and that it's not their responsibility after we bought the land. The developer gave us the builder's contact number so we could talk to them which turned out useless as they denied doing it. So we have to remove the rubbish ourselves in the end. One thing we didn't think of was calling EPA or council to see whether they could help. Give EPA a call to see if they could help, if they can fine people for flicking cigarette butts then they might be able to fine the builder or make them clean up. Re: Dumping on our block! 10Jun 06, 2008 2:28 pm Here's an idea!
How about we look after each other and have a clause in our contracts that our builder will not put rubbish on any block other than the one being built on. That way they have to remove it once the build is finished. I'm considering this as the last thing I want to do is get off on the wrong foot with my neighbours. I'll end up p***ing them off on my own soon enough! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Proof is the biggest issue, and without it you're really pushing to get anything done. Another thing anyone starting to build should photograph any footpaths and crossovers before any site works are done. It's good practice to do this when buying the land, since other contractors will use and crack the paving outside of your block while working on others. Good tip ... off to my block with the camera As soon as you notice any cracks notify the council, they'll take the appropriate action and get them fixed. Unless of course it's one of the contractors working on your site then your builder should organise to have it replaced. Just make sure they do before handover. Also note that builders are required to have a bond with the council for the repair of footpaths. So if there are any cracks from your builder (which our builder did - oddly enough concrete pumps and footpaths don't mix) make sure you tell council immediately, as they tend to give the bond back without an inspection...... Also because they have a bond it is more likely to be fixed quicker rather than but on the "it'll get done next time the footpather is in that area" list. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Dumping on our block! 15Jun 09, 2008 6:47 pm Hey, get crafty!.....
Erect an eye-catching sign out the front.... "GRANITE BOULDERS FOR SALE" Have your number there, and be ready to do some smooth talking. You may end up getting rid of them for free or even make a profit!!! Ash. Re: Dumping on our block! 16Jun 11, 2008 12:12 pm LOL well, and update to this thread.......
We agreed to take the boulders from jewels site and then someone beat us to it sometime between Wednesday and Saturday??? Jewel rang me asking if we had grabbed them (which was fine) because they were gone, but it wasn't us???? The powers of wishful thinking- they wished them away!!! Re: Dumping on our block! 17Jun 28, 2008 7:48 pm When we were building our home, my husband arrived one afternoon to find boxes, garbage bags and other assorted crap dumped on our block. Not too bright were these dumpers, who had put personal information in their garbage (ie: bills will their names and addresses). So, my husband put all the garbage in his boot, and drove it back around to their house, and chucked in on their front lawn.
The occupants came out yelling and screaming, but pulled their heads in when they realised that the garbage was simply being returned...... you could imagine the looks on their faces. Re: Dumping on our block! 18Nov 18, 2008 11:12 am Hi Guys,
I’m sad to say that we’ve just experienced the same thing with our site. We are due to start any day and to my disgust I found a sleeping mattress and a massive boulder on our site, which seems to have magically appeared. However, the biggest issue we have now is that there are bricks which are sitting on our block of land. They belong to the block next door who are building with *enley. We informed *enley that we required the bricks to be completely removed and all they have done is moved them a metre across. Because our garage wall will be right on the boundary, our site supervisor has said they can’t start until the bricks are completely off our block. This has pushed our site start by a week now. The *enley site administrator has just given me lip service as to when it will be removed. What are we entitled to do? Can we physically remove the bricks ourselves? How annoying!! have you spoke to your actual SS to ask what he would do if the roles were reverse? might help to get an idea of what the other SS might be doing! Surely you have rights what is on YOUR land or not, and therefore h*nley surely HAS to remove it without question its YOUR block not their clients! maybe speak with your developer, they may know what rights you have. Failing that perhaps the building commission dispute place you go to when your not happy.. GOOD LUCK! Re: Dumping on our block! 20Nov 18, 2008 11:38 am This happened to us aswell, only it would simply be removed by the builder if we were about to start building as they still need to scrape the sight and get it prepared. So any rubbish goes with it. But in saying that we are not ready to build and our council fines you if you have anything rubbish that could cause fires so. The weekend just passed DH grabbed a mate and his ute and they loaded the back and did a tip run.
$50 and our time because some ars$hole$ are to lazy and stingy to do it themselves........we had kids prams and clothes and crap and pallets, a coffee table and beer bottles.....these people get tip passes for there areas. Vent over again 6 11152 Yes it had a house on it. But Melbourne water only wanted something the original size of the existing house. We managed to fit a 45sq house on. 10 33668 4 4499 |
