They refused to leave the island bench uninstalled (ie to allow the timber to go underneath) so this was their compromise (it was lucky that the state manager was around on the day we did colour selection). We also got them to only tack the skirting boards on for $450 (well really they've just got them ****** around in our garage) so that they can be installed after the timber flooring. Hi Mrs Rose. We are building with Masterton and want to install a timber floor. We are having discussions with Masterton about having Accent do the timber floor but are baulking at the "quad around the edge" issue. Am I reading your post correctly when I say that you compromised by having the quad only around the island bench? If so, are you happy with the end result? Thanks Re: C&T Rose - Update - Callum Photos for Dee (: 429Dec 12, 2010 7:27 pm Hi Lucky, Sorry my post wasn't too clear on the details We negotiated that the kickboards (and skirting) were installed after the floors were done. There was a single charge of $450 for the 'tacking on of the skirting). For the island bench we had the timber running left to right across the 'Great Room' so they then were able to run cork along the 'bar back' (rear of the island bench) and the front of the island bench has a kickboard so the timber could go underneath by a couple of centimetres). The sides of the island bench we asked them to cut the timber boards as close as they could and they filled the very small gap with a brown paste ('timber' coloured ). So no scotia or quad anywhere so yes I'm happy Another thing to think about is the size of your skirting - we went for the thicker skirting (18mm rather than 12mm) as they need to leave a 10mm gap around the perimeter of the room - we chose the half splayed profile which was still considered 'standard' so no upgrade cost. Still need to wrap my brain around it all though. btw, did you include this at the first tender, or at Colours? I think it is odd that they should charge $450 for actually doing less work (ie. isn't tacking on less work than actually installing?) btw, is everything done now? How are you feeling with the house now and all your choices / decisions? Would it be possible to post a pic of the section that has the paste? I think they will use something similar for one area of our flooring too, and I heard that this paste is called Caulk In Colours and it can "bulge" and shrink (but probably not in a non-traffic area like yours, right next to cabinets) - have you noticed any movement of the paste so far? How wide is the gap? And has the coating grabbed properly to the paste? BTW, does the $450 cover the cost of skirtings too, or only the labour? Who installed your skirting in the end? Thanks Oh, I notice almost every sentence in my post ends with "?" My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... How are you feeling with the house now and all your choices / decisions? T Skirting chosen, kickboards negotiated at colours and cost for tacking of skirting included by Accent in Tender. They charge the extra because they have to come back to do it (they didn't bother with tacking ours on they just left the ground floor uninstalled until the flooring was done). Everything is reasonable but definitely not done - now we're into the joys of the 6 month maintenance inspection (we signed up so long ago that we got the 180 days maintenance instead of the 90 days) - couple of problems - the main ones are the leaking of garage roof and main roof (this one into the eave only - thankfully), and some cracked bricks (noted just after handover). The others are fairly minor. I love my house - there will always be things that I wish we'd done differently but there was only so much money to go around Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience - Dilbert View Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19733 Contract signed 14Sept Slab 30Sept Bricks laid 1Dec Lock up 26Feb Keys 10Jun Re: C&T Rose - Update - Callum Photos for Dee (: 433Dec 13, 2010 7:37 am Lex Hi C, This post caught my attenttion too, especially about the brown paste used to fill the gaps. Hi Lex, Here is a pic of the side of the island bench - small gap only Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Yes the paste can bulge and shrink between the floor boards - I think they used it a little too generously in some areas - will try and take a photo (probably don't have time today will try tomorrow)- there are sections where the 'top' of the bulge has come off in walkways - the island bench is not affected. I think the coating comes off where the bulges are especially in traffic areas. Don't know if it'd help but you're most welcome to come and visit and have a closer look The $450 was the additional labour - skirtings to whole of house were standard. I think the fixing off carpenter came back to install the skirtings, the kitchen guy came back to install the kickboards. Thanks for the invite too , I'm sure we'll exchange "intial house inspections" some time next year!! I've tried to take some so that you get the idea - some of a gap between the boards, some of the stuff between the boards where its bulging (won't do this in winter only in summer).... one from a distance - most people don't notice the bulging unless they have bare feet... there's more photos on photobucket...
