The info has been fabulous. We are building the Chisholm Lodge Grande with Masterton on a few acres just outside Canberra. Our plans have been in council for a month now and we have our colours appointment in Batemans Bay next week. Went to Don's tiles last week to pick our tiles and I was pretty disappointed with the standard options. They had beautiful tiles, but everything cost more. I'm a little bit concerned about what is included and what we have to pay extra for. I already have 50+ upgrades in our tender so I was hopeful this would be the end, but I'm starting to wonder. For example, I have picked a colour from Quantum Quartz (sahara) for my kitchen that may not be included in the standard range. Does anyone know if this will cost more and how much? Also, am I able to choose from CaesarStone instead? I also read that we can choose only one paint colour for the walls and architraves???? This seems ridiculous. Any other tips or advice for the colours appointment would be appreciated. Looking forward to sharing our journey with you all. I wish I could build the Chisholm lodge - how divine!! Yes, get ready for some unexpected surprises from M, but hopefully they will be limited! Argue them out as much as you can without slowing the process down and that helps. Well that's what I did because of house and land package. And I genuinely think they should already be included in tender. We were really disappointed with Dons tiles too and asked if we could go to di lorenzo. They have a fab standard range and we went with some mosaics which cost us a mint but worth every cent. Our floor tiles everywhere were standard and gorgeous. Don's are very limited I found. (personal opinion only!) Yes, you are allowed one paint colour throughout. Except I think you can choose from standard "white" in your bathrooms etc, that's what we did. But to get contrasting architraves and doors/skirtings the cost is: Standard across any M home Architraves and skirtings - $275 Doors - $27 each This is so the painter doesnt need to change his brush too many times. They say the fashion is to have the same colour architraves but they do it in full gloss. When I paid the $275 she said i get standard white full gloss. I argued that if i am paying for it, cant I choose the white. I wanted off-white so she said fair enough and I chose Milk Cloud full gloss. But they do include a lot of "upgrades" now complimentary which I was happy with, and they give you little freebies here and there at the colour consultation. It was actually the funnest day for us! Did you want 40mm or 20mm stone? I would suggest you think about what you want, ask the price when you get there and then decide if you want to go ahead with it or not. We choose a timber garage door as well which was $447. And premium underlay under our carpet throughout (bedrooms only) $400. (much smaller house lol) Can't wait to follow your build as it comes along. Have you got your own thread yet? It's so fun! Sorry for such a long response 1st Tender - 20 March 2010 Slab - 14 August 2010 Frames - 31 August 2010 Roof - 11 September 2010 Bricks finished - 2 October 2010 Lock up - 15 October 2010 Keys - 10 December 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=41002 Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1487Aug 26, 2010 6:59 pm Thanks BZMZ. So even though I will pick one colour for all the doors, skirtings and architraves it will cost me $275 plus $27 for each door? I can't believe it. I'm having a 40mm benchtop which is in our tender and a waterfall edge. But I'm prepared for the worst in terms of what choice I have with colours. I've also included carpet in our tender (standard builders range). Is this stuff any good? I will try and start my own thread some time soon. But if you want your doors/skirts/arc white then it will. I know, it sucks. Took me awhile to adjust too. No the carpet is awful lol... I took a sample of my friends lush carpet from her new house and brought it with me and it was of the highest standard like 11 grades up. The standard stuff is pretty cheap & basic but we chose one with as less patterns in it, and put premium underlay. I'm extremely happy with the colour (a mushroom) but hopefully when its in it will still look ok. It is from Accent Carpet so you could always take a trip there first. Or in colours, ask how much an upgraded carpet would be. I wanted really dense plush carpet but nevermind.. Goodluck with your appointment! We had lunch with Jim Masterton that day lol.. 1st Tender - 20 March 2010 Slab - 14 August 2010 Frames - 31 August 2010 Roof - 11 September 2010 Bricks finished - 2 October 2010 Lock up - 15 October 2010 Keys - 10 December 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This wasn't an option when we did our selections. A request for information about electricity connection - I'm so confused! We're trying to organise connection of the Property Pole to the street and we're getting conflicting information from various sources. I thought Masterton (or their electricians) supplied and installed the meter at the Meter Box and did all the wiring and cabling inside the house to the Meter Box and from the Meter Box to the Property Pole. Energy Australia sent us a form to get our electricians to quote and the people who did our wiring through Masterton have just supplied a quote which includes metering to the Meter Box and connection to the Electricity Authority's pole. Is this right? No one at Masterton has yet been able to give me a clear answer. Sorry Lizzy, no idea! Have you pm'd Mrs Rose - she is the GURU! We also have the 40mm Benchtop with waterfall edge. I am still unsure if we made the right decision - there wasnt much of a choice... One thing that I would recommend : If you are going for a glass splashback then get another quote as ours was about $3K through M and we were so over it by that stage that we just accepted it. We went for the mid range Accent, not much of a choice there either. Masterton provides cable between house and pole, you need to pay an electrician (either masterton electrician or your own private one [cheaper]) to connect the supply between pole and electricity grid (they need to be category 3). They will connect the metering in the meter box also (only about $100). Your meters upgrade (is that for 3 phase?) is separate. The electrician (cat 3 one) can only do their job once Masterton has finished and certified their electrical work on the internals. Here is a list of people that provide the service (category 3 person) to do the work (connection from private pole to mains). http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/pdfs/ ... level2.pdf We got a much cheaper quote than the guys that Masterton use ($710 + GST incl metering, Integral Energy site inspection fees, labour and cable -v- $870 + GST from YHC). We knocked down mid May, slab mid July, and frames completed 28 Aug. We were supposed to have the brickies arrive last Monday but apparently our SS's boss had a job which needed brickies urgently so they've been diverted off there (how rude - who's house is more urgent than mine i ask you) Anyway, just wondering whether anyone else is having problems getting brickies? Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1498Sep 04, 2010 1:34 pm Hi Topdeck, welcome to the forum. We have been waiting for bricks for 2 weeks and are hoping to get them next week. When the brickie will actually start is another question. They are in huge demand and I have been told that some are getting paid as much as $2.00 a brick. My guess is the M will not pay that rate so have to use the ones on existing contracts or aggreements. I am pretty sure we are waiting for the brickies that are doing another house in Concord. Good Luck! Lets hope that the rain goes away as I believe for every rain day, they need to wait up to a week before carrying on otherwise the bricks bleed or something like that...
