They kept telling me we had a connection in place even after I explained about 5 times that we knocked down the old house and built a new one and there was NO connection!!! I felt like it would be less painful if I'd have slammed my head into a brick wall a few times. Navigating the Telstra website is just as hard but my oh-so-clever DH did finally found a link that was buried deep within the Telstra pages! It turns out that if we dig the trench ourselves (and we will cos I'm not paying $200++ for someone to dig a ditch for me!!) the $299 connection fee *INCLUDES* the 3rd-party contractor, in our case Silcar, feeding cables through the conduit. We want to change providers however, and they charge you $100 if you switch within the first 3 months. We have accepted that this is just part of the cost of achieving what we want. Re: HELP with phone trench 37Apr 25, 2010 12:08 am this is another confusing issue for most, Telstra charge 300 for the complete connection including the sub contractor to dig the trench. Just look on the net for new home phone connections. The people who dig their own do not save anything as they still pay 300 connection. The people who get another subcontractor to dig the trench pay hundreds for the trench and still pay 300 for the connection. It cost my son about 600 or more because he organized a separate contractor. Just ring telstra and let them organize the whole thing for 300. simple, cheers Re: HELP with phone trench 38Apr 25, 2010 8:14 am Errr ... we were told (by Telstra) quite the opposite. All they do is connect from the pit to the house, but no digging by them. Can you post that link that explains otherwise? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: HELP with phone trench 39Apr 25, 2010 10:10 am From Telstra: Quote: Note: Trenching costs on your property are not included in the Telstra connection fee. You may be responsible for additional charges, which you should discuss with your contractor. It's important to discuss and clarify trenching requirements prior to digging the trench to avoid unnecessary rework and extra cost if the trench is provided in the wrong location or to the wrong specification. The Telstra connection fee DOES NOT include trenching. Re: HELP with phone trench 40Apr 27, 2010 11:49 am Yes telstra subcontracts the trenching out and telstra do the connections. I checked the telstra site and it does say trenching is extra, I'm sorry, I think I have misled you guys. I recommend running conduit in the trench dug by other contractors and put some strong string in it as well. BTW it was telstra who told me that everything was inclusive for the 300 bucks. 2 4349 Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7929 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain.
