u got have Telstra Velocity in ur home there is no any other options, u cant get ADSL connection in the state, Telstra only provides Velocity in the state, u also got to do the cabling at the same time ur builder is doing electrical cables, ur telephone, TV and Internet, they all are connected to the ONT (Optical network Terminator). u also dont need any free to air TV Antana as signal comes from fiber optic cable.

correct, must be done with your builder as land contract states.
& btw you are not allowed any roof antena's in the estate of somerfield.

ya exactly, what to do we all have to put up with it, i personally dont like the Telstra Velocity thingy, nothing much we can do about it. itz expensive

Does anybody know what type of fencing is being constructed around the estate. I saw they had some rendered pillars but can't tell what is going in between them?? thanks.

Yes, I agree. The Tel$tra Velocity packages are a joke.
Take a look at this website and compare it with your current broadband packages and see if it's any better.

Also, we're locked in with Tel$tra for home phone as well. We can't get a line with ANY phone company but Tel$tra.
Why is that you asked? Because there are no copper lines being laid in Somerfield estate.

Tel$tra own 100% of the Fibre line that is connected to your home. The ACCC could not do anything about this as there are currently no legislation or law to enforce Tel$tra to open up their Fibre network to other ISP, thus creating a MONOPOLY!!!

I think so. Recently it is discussed that Telstra broadboard part will be separated from big Telstra and it also should share their infrastructure (optic fiber ) with other ISP companies just like copper line. This is a signal to break monopoly.

Lux: How about your driveway? do you use the semi-permeable material or use the concrete pave with grass like the sample? Obviously the latter choice is quite cheap. i have no idea.

You can still get wireless broadband

but they're slow!!! as for your home phone, you can still use mobile

@lux, I don't think the prices will go down again anytime soon as they've recently revised their pricing after S0l Trujil0 guy were removed from Tel$tra. Again, this is only my opinion. Tel$tra has always been the most expensive ISP in my mind and not value for money.

@1983yzb, the labor government are looking at splitting Tel$tra from wholesale and retail, at the same time, they're looking at building the $43 Billion Dollars NBN (National Broadband Network) expecting to be done by something like year 2018. At the moment, there is not much really happening with this either. NBN company has been created and that's pretty much it.

About the semi-permeable driveway, I'm going to wait till those display homes are up and I'll get some ideas about doing mine

has anyone been informed about the "telstra velocity" cabling yet, thatz in the state guideline too, i got mine done and had to pay $990 for that, i didnt ask any of u guys before as u haven't reached to that stage yet, but you all have to be aware of it, if u all need any help let me know.

Im sure we payed almost 1.8k for a velocity package (minimum package) - 7 connections around the home I think
2 cat 5, 2 cable, 2 phone line and 1 tv point

What does your $990 include? cos thats CHEAP!

i got 2 data points (CAT5), 2 TV Points and 1 Phone, thatz alright for the price plus he put few more cables through the wall just in case if i need it future.
