Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 12, 2021 5:02 pm Had a soil report done with results coming back as E-class with 120mm of movement in the soil. My previous builder doesn’t cater to this soil type and has pulled out which means I’ve had to find another builder. From what I can gather from briefly speaking to other companies it will cost roughly $40k for a monolithic slab to suit this type of soil. One builder has said that a monolithic slab will not be required and we can get away with a waffle slab with a thickness of over 450-600mm depending on what the engineer recommends. Everything I am reading online suggests waffle slabs are not appropriate for e-class soil, but obviously would work out significantly cheaper and that specific builder also has the best inclusions with their price. Just wondering if it’s a smart idea to follow this particular builders advice or should I be wary? Thankyou 😊 The Soil classification has little to do with piers.
