Re: Thomas Archer Hive 46 (customised) Build 2020-21 130Jan 20, 2021 5:15 pm 1 question regards the Sliding door recessed to slab - understand it is to achieve a flush effect - flooring flush vs door frame But if you are doing timber flooring - which is normally 15mm thick anyway, it should make the height difference much less , is it still worth to do the sliding door concrete recessed then ? Thanks Re: Thomas Archer Hive 46 (customised) Build 2020-21 131Jan 20, 2021 5:31 pm scott2323 1 question regards the Sliding door recessed to slab - understand it is to achieve a flush effect - flooring flush vs door frame But if you are doing timber flooring - which is normally 15mm thick anyway, it should make the height difference much less , is it still worth to do the sliding door concrete recessed then ? Thanks It’s not worth the headache I’ll tell you. The builder needs to take into account the recessed height and make sure the sliding doors are customised. For us, they did a workaround and the end result looks the same but it isn’t. It’ll be alright if not going for floor to ceiling glass. Yes , I think the recessed slab might be the reason causing your sliding door height issue Re: Thomas Archer Hive 46 (customised) Build 2020-21 133Jan 22, 2021 3:41 pm BigDaddy Scheduled 27th for Darbecca’s final inspection. Thanks so I was at my build over weekend and coincidentally the concreter was there too to do some rectification work. We had a nice long chat on all things build / concreting. He was curious as to why I didn't recess my doors / windows and I said that I wasn't even aware that was an option. His perspective: - He hates doing it. It is quite challenging to get a 15mm recess in the slab perfect to allow for the doors / windows to fit. There is never a time he can get it perfect and he has been doing it for 30 years. - When you do do it, the framers generally have to surround the frame with packers and play with the heights to try and get it level etc. - I think i read previously that sometimes there are water ingress issues depending on if the outside is covered etc, so that's something to consider. Hope that helps, but yes with timber flooring the lip to the door would hopefully not be too much. Do you know how high the lip of the windows will stick out above the timber floor if there is no recess? Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
