We put in noggins, then discovered that all they were, were pieces of 2x4 pine nailed in with 4 nails between the main studs (i think you call them). We totally could have put them in ourselves at frame stage and saved a $100 a pop.[/quote]

What is home automation? And is it really necessary? Everything will be wireless very soon.

I’ve done my electrical budget and putting down lights downstairs, TV points, telephone points, and junction boxes. Not spending too much. I’ve work out that you only really need 22 down lights to the ground floor.

If possible can someone PM their electrical plans for the waldorf as I’m interest to se what other have done.

i guess in our case to describe it more accurately home theatre automation. Home automation is different to wireless technology. eg wireless will allow you to use ipads or notebooks etc from anywhere in the home to surf the internet for instance. whereas pressing a button to turn on the projector to lower a projection screen still requires data cabling to enable the remote control.

It's a personal choice, i guess, and a case on getting the balance right of how much you automate and the associated costs.

In our case the majority of the electrical cost was the 24 downlights too, 4 in the lounge, dining, alfresco, living, kitchen and theatre. Also we added extra datapoints and free to air and pay tv points as we are looking at centralised networking to provide multimedia output throughout the house.

I haven't had a late payment, but one stage I received the invoice on the Thursday and faxed it to the bank on the Friday.. Monday comes and PD's accounting department is on the phone wanting to know when payment will be...

She said they mailed it on the Tuesday beforehand. That only makes it 6 days; including a weekend! That got me a little annoyed..

Brilliant! What colours did you end up going for? We too had a really smooth run at the selections day and found the people who guided us through this process to be very professional and friendly. It helps too you having done a lot of research and going in knowing what you want (or close to)...makes the process less stressful

Can't wait to see the colours..hint hint!

How would I rate PD so far?

I would rate following experiences as such:

Sales Rep: 9/10.... Still rings me now to help me out where he can;
Tender: 8/10... Tender presenter Sue is really good;
CSC: 100/10..... I have the best CSC around, couldn’t build this house without her fantastic service;
Colour Selection: 8/10..... Good knowledge of the products;
Electrical: 10/10...... Does help when she is a friend of mine;
Tiles 9/10: the girls and National Tiles were fantastic; and
Contract: 8/10... Apart from couple minor errors the process was seamless.

The only thing that let me down was trying to get prices quickly at the start of the process. The sales consultant tried his hardest but was limited by the process. Also, weekend staff at Hopetoun were CRAP! (bad service here 1/10).

All in all, I’m glad we are building with PD.

I'd have to pretty much agree with tstria!

Sales rep 10/10 - yes u know who u are! Lol
Tender 6/10 - scary site costs but tender doc 9/10 with what we wanted
CSC - 9/10 had 2 fab ones, onto 3rd & very good. All of them have been efficient & on top of things

Col selection - 9/10 very helpful but I was also very organized
Electrical - 6/10 helpful but wasn't really nice! Felt like I was a bother!
Tiles - 8/10 very good & helpful
Contract - 9/10 pretty much 95% right was very pleased
Build so far (just completed frame) - 8/10 - slow to start after site was cut, full throttle now

9/10 for quality, had an independent inspector thru & pretty good, they have done a gr8 job. Minor things needed fixing! SS - efficient & always returns calls/ emails & seems to be organized 95% of the time.
Hopetoun 8/10 - I found the girl that I spoke to on a weekend very helpful & nice.

Overall we are happy so far. Had some frustrations with mis communication on some things like our site costs & retaining wall! here's hoping I still feel that way at the end!

I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed most of the building process so far, however I am sorry to hear that you've had a disappointing experience with the Hopetoun staff. I really appreciate your feedback and will be passing this onto the Porter Davis office.

Places Homes teams up to create dream design portfolio

Just wanted to share some Porter Davis news with you, we will be undertaking a brand consolidation of Places Homes. The consolidation means that Places properties will be transferred into Porter Davis Homes group, so we will have even more stunning designs under the PD brand.

For those of you who aren’t aware of Places Homes, it was founded in 2008 during which time many first and new home buyers discovered an affordable opportunity to build a brand new home with a stunning range of bespoke Places designs.

The consolidation of brands will not affect Places’ existing obligations, as all current customer and supplier contracts will be honoured and construction will continue as planned. Also the entirety of the Places staff will be transitioning into Porter Davis Homes group.

hi ebony,were building bermuda 23 and we didnt noticed that on all openable windows is not bricks instead they are putting fs sheet,and we would love to put bricks on top of the windows if only they tell us beforehand our building comstruction will start on january 2015!can u please help us to sort this out we ring our BC and said there will be fees of doing that as POST VARIATION?

terrible quick to take your money.. ' aftercare' IS A LOAD OF RUBBISH. any complaints is oh everything is in guidelines!! front door is bowed the bow must be 6mm out to repair. where isthe enrgy efficient home according to law then? the porch is made of two sheets of roof joined in the middle rain runs down the whole facade cos no down pipe installed according to plans ' oh sheets of metal are not made to those lenths! flat roof doesn't need a down pipe! wtf! grind mark in the middle of alfresco area... still fighting. the load of rubbish they feed you and take you for idoits.. also love the whole 1 year warranty on everything haha. going through right avenues first then building commission if not resolved so not happy first home buyers and there care is not there.. 100% their homes do not match display versions. P.S. had about 4 administrators in the whole process bad management on there part!! thanks PS
