I love your floor plan, it actually reminds me of our layout with the kitchen on the side. We had so much that I wanted done in the build, but the cost add up so quickly, we had to have a split put in our house = saying goodbye to the reverse cycle air conditioning. I'm sure we will freeze to death in winter, so we might look at gas hearing until the budget can allow for r/c. Shel Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 569Nov 07, 2015 10:17 pm Hi again Rhonda It is interesting a lot of us have come from around the Ressy suburbs. Just a heads up lot 53 are starting any day now as Cindy the owner expected a start last week but am assuming the rain has held her builder up, we are lot 52 we currently have a slab but the builder is now wanting the retaining wall between us and lot 51 before they can continue still trying to get that organised contractors don't hurry themselves with quotes. Patience is certainly needed in this builds. Thanks, Shel We are only 11m wide at the street, with one boundary being quite diagonal, which means that we had up to 12m only for the width of the front of the house. ALL the pre-designed houses of that frontage are narrow plans with long hallways and living spaces right at the back designed for those long skinny urban blocks... and I absolutely hate long hallways! I had to get creative chopping bits and pieces out of different plans that I liked, and giving our sales rep a list of what I definitely wanted in the house. I'm hoping it works out as good in person as on paper, because we haven't been able to walk through a display home that's the same all the way through. So we'll see. Patience is certainly needed in this builds. Thanks for the heads up, Vogue. We've been wondering when we'd see action on Lot 53. We were there on Friday shifting some of our builder's rubbish off their block... builders are so messy! And thanks for your earlier feedback on the rainwater tanks, too. We've been keeping an eye on your build, as it's about 2 weeks ahead of ours and we can see across to it really easily. Your slab is HUGE! If anyone sees us on-site, or driving by in a light blue Getz then pop over and say hi! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 571Nov 08, 2015 1:37 pm Hi Rhonda, Yes our slab looks big but there is a triple garage and once you take that out it is not as big but you have done a good job of designing your house for such a narrow frontage as like you I can't understand these long narrow hallways as they are such a waste of space. We are looking forward to meeting you and all the others on this forum but as our house won't be finished until June it will just rely on who we run into when ever we are at the block. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 572Nov 08, 2015 10:49 pm Hi Rhonda! Great plan! I like it! We moved in to ours a week ago (lot 57), slowly getting unpacked. Our driveway is being done tomorrow and Tuesday. He was going to pave around the house too but as the retaining walls haven't been done he cant-I'm so disappointed! I need these walls up so the fence can go up so I can send my girls outside to play! It's driving me crazy having them inside all the time AND we get our new puppy in 3 weeks so we have a time frame-those fences HAVE to be up by the end of the month! So, sorry if anyone hears me yelling-the girls are fighting almost constantly! It's so hard getting quotes! We have had quite a few people out to quote and only one has followed through with a quote! It was a very reasonable quote too (he is doing our driveway) so he will have another look tomorrow now we have a little more info and he will break down the costs for us. I'm excited to have the driveway and paths go in as I am dying to get started on the yard! I am doing a cottage garden and have been collecting plants for a while now-still need lots more but it's a start. With the rainwater, nothing was mentioned to us when the council came to do an audit. We have a fire outlet on the front tank which is easily accessible and at the moment the rear tank is isolated with 5000l in there. We need the plumber out again as we don't have some valve between the pump and the house that the council want-so remember that one! it was $300 for the plumber to connect the water so probably that again given the call out fee is high being out here. We also got a letter from the council saying they haven't received some certificate of completion from our builder and we have until Thursday to get this form filled out by ourselves and our builder and get it back to them or we get a $400 fine?! For anyone starting a build soon, if you want to keep leftover materials, hide them on the block or taken them home asap as people are in here daily loading up trailers and utes with wood, bricks etc-last week 2 guys took 2 pallets of leftover bricks from a house. Bit weird living up here alone! Mahalia and umm forgot the username but lot 55 shouldn't be far off handover now Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 573Nov 09, 2015 3:06 pm Hi Jakki, saw your pod out the front the other week so thought you had moved in and I wouldn't worry too much about yelling at the girls I don't think it will bother anyone and by the time Mahalia and lot 55 get handover your fences shouldn't be far off then the girls will be outside playing (in the dirt enjoy the washing lol). Do you know anything about the callout to CFS last Fri afternoon for a house fire in Aurora Cct, it was late afternoon. Regard to council and having to pay for water connection when do they want that payment, is after handover or before? Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 575Nov 09, 2015 3:23 pm Haha thanks! Yes- the washing-I already have Mt washmore without them playing in the dirt heheand it takes me an hour to sweep and mop my floors-did them last night and already today they are dirty and dusty! I need a robot vac then I just need to mop. I do-I'll inbox you-everyone is ok though! YAY Shell01 thats exciting!!! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 576Nov 09, 2015 3:26 pm Hey JakkiT congrats on moving in. I've been following this thread for a while as there doesn't seem to be anyone on here building where we are so the Meadows thing is probably the closest to a Myponga thread! How long did it take them from slab to moving in? I'm just trying to get a rough idea of when to expect ours to be done. Our frames have just gone up. We are building with Statesman. Would love to see some photos of what you have done! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75840&view=unread#unread Building with Statesman Homes in Myponga, SA View our thread here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75840&view=unread#unread Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 577Nov 09, 2015 5:22 pm Hi lishaun, Thanks-all very exciting! Ours was 16 weeks from slab pour until handover. Frames went up 4 weels after slab pour, so you might be looking at about 12 weeks although a trade we had told me on average it's 12 weeks from slab-we had delays because of the massive amount of rain in July and August. oh there was a few things we didn't get them to do which may have made it a little faster: carpets and hard flooring (we used city discount carpets to lay the carpet and we laid the vinyl planks ourselves), kitchen splashback (still isnt done lol) as they didn't have tiles that suited the look I want and we didn't get the bathroom accessories but they would have only been an hours work anyway. Sure! I'll post some pics as soon as I can! I have followed your thread too! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 578Nov 09, 2015 9:21 pm Wow 16 weeks!! That's pretty amazing - even with the crazy weather we had! Are you pretty happy with the job Statesman gas done? Yeh we are getting flooring, driveway, aircon and fencing done after handover. Just works out so much cheaper doesn't it! Must have been so exciting to move in!! Awesome! Look forward to seeing them! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75840&view=unread#unread Building with Statesman Homes in Myponga, SA View our thread here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75840&view=unread#unread Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 579Nov 10, 2015 8:19 am Yes, it was very fast! So glad though as we moved in with my parents a week before the slab went down. Yes, mostly. Some messy painting and sanding of the plaster in spots and just a few other small issues that will get fixed. Mostly I'm REALLY annoyed about all the spots where the guy touched up the walls with SEMI GLOSS paint! I will be making them fix that too. We have those long skinny windows in the lounge and main bedroom and a couple are a bit out of whack I think as when you unlock them they spring up! The locks are already wearing down and the metal is shaving off, main bathroom shower door catches and the external laundry door is not long enough so I have asked for the doors and windows to be fixed now. I don't want a snake creeping in under that door! Who is your Site Supervisor? I thin that makes all the difference. What flooring are you going with? Our carpets are darker than I thought they would be but I'll get used to them. LOVE our vinyl planks! They are almost scratch proof! We tested them with forks lol-takes alot of force to scratch them. They are Karndean ones. Our driveway is being done today. I have a very good and very honest landscaper so happy to pass his number on. He came highly recommended and they were right. We bought our pavers from playford pavers direct-made in Adelaide - the ones we were getting originally we found out they were made in Vietnam and they use some not so nice chemicals. Definitely cheaper! We have the fence being delivered tomorrow and hubby will put that up himself. We went through stratco-good price and good customer service. Yes it was! Today my aim is to get the inside completely finished as I have a stall at the Lollipop Markets this Sunday so I need to make lots of stock and be completely prepared for that. We are also going to the Pageant on Saturday Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 580Nov 10, 2015 11:55 am Wow JakkiT, 16 weeks! We were told it will be up to 24weeks from slab pour, but that their average is far less. Of course, we're expecting there to be no work happening through December... would be nice to work in an industry where everything closes down over Christmas!
Can I get the details of your driveway man? We have some quotes and are going to go the dark coloured concrete... we had that picked out pretty much from the start, and since seeing some other places up there with the dark concrete we know that's definitely what we want. We haven't even thought about fences yet... I think I'm in a bit of denial over them. I keep telling myself that I'll have to talk to the neighbours about that so I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I'm on holidays, so going to do an extra visit up to the block today. Not sure if anything would have changed since Friday but at least it's a nice drive Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you.
